the tale {of} P E R P E T U A L woes

Dance with me below crystal knives
Chandeliers ablaze
We'll dance in fear of our own lives
that our eyes contain
Behind these masks we renegade against the sound
We'll let our voices slowly fade and ring out

We all know what hatred is, and at one time or another we’ve all felt it. Be it on our race, our beliefs, or monetary situations or just a scared child hiding behind rage we’ve all felt the lashes of anger, but none of this has prepared us for what we’re enduring once more. Battles once hidden in the shadows are being taken out into the streets, causing countless innocent lives to be lost. Beings once considered to be nothing more than storybook characters are now, by some, known to actually exist! We’ve gone through this once before, and now out hatred has come back to crush us once more, but this time we’re ready for it.

Crystal chandeliers hang
Crystal chandeliers hang
Gently swaying with our bodies, fall down
Race upon us, hammer into the ground
Crystal chandeliers hang
Crystal chandeliers hang

In our past, a past that’s not found on any stone tablet or cave wall, a great war was waged; the war to end the world some said. Newly evolved beings that were called humans set the first spark, for while the other beings had sealed choices; they were good or evil, but these humans weren’t either and held the potential to be both. These fickle beings each held their own code of morals, some being up to par with those of the beings of good with others holding the very few that the demons in the shadows held and for the first time good had something to protect and evil had something to corrupt for these humans held no powers of their own. The first battle of this war was between a powerful demon and a rather weak vampire; the two were fighting over the life of an infant. The demon quickly destroyed the vampire, but because of the manor in which the demon slaughtered the vampire, it’s magick protect the child from the wrath of the demon. This child would be important for it was the first human to vanquish a demon, creating a whole new breed of human; slayers. While the slayers were growing, mostly from the number of good beings that died protecting humans, the more powerful beings of good were lashing out, randomly vanquishing demons and sometimes mortals that worked with them; thus losing their title as beings of good. Slowly but surely, the delicate balance of both good and evil magick was being tossed about, and things were about to get rough.

We dance among our shadows
our enemies connected feet to feet
Ill take the lead
I wont run I wont hide from this
Dance into the night

Over the course of two hundred years nearly all of magick had been withered down; good, evil, and neutral losing their brethren causing more rage to build between the two and thus causing the losses to become greater. As the legend goes the most powerful being of good, an elderly witch, and the most powerful being of evil, a young and coming demon, finally met. The whole magickal world, and even the human world who had finally begun to notice things were inexplicably strange, knew that this battle would decide what kind of magick would come out on top. The young demon appeared in the home of the old witch where she sat in her old rocking chair, eyes closed, just moving back and forth.

”Aren’t you going to even stand?” The young demon wanted to fight the most powerful witch in existence, not beat up an idle old woman.

”I don’t need to because you’re going to kill yourself...” the witch mumbled not even bothering to open her eyes or pause her rocking. In a moment of rage the demon charged an energy ball and hurtled it at the witch who didn’t move though she had plenty of powers that could stop such a simple blast. The energy ball collided with the old woman and in a matter of seconds she was dead, but as her blood fell onto the floor something happened. What exactly she had done no one knows, even to this day, but somehow her blood had triggered some charm, encasing the demon’s body in stone. The battle ended in a draw, both beings dead and leaving both sides leaderless. Now when we look back on the exact words the witch spoke we know what she meant; the first vampire slaughtered by that demon was what had killed evil, not the death of the demon. The slayers, humans given powers to defend themselves, rose up and fought with good to force evil back to the underworld, a dimension created for them by a group of powerful beings.

After the war ended, good decided it was best forgotten and thus cast a powerful spell, using all the beings of good that still existed. This spell broke the first law of the Goddesses by allowing them physical existence in our plain. Rapidly things changed and everything was set back on the course they had desired. Good and evil beings were replenished though evil’s new world, the underworld, was where they would exist. Most of the Slayers lost their powers and were allowed to return to normal life, all except for the first slayer’s line. The horrible scars on the world were removed and the goddesses left, again sealing our plain from their own. With things like they should be, humans moving on without knowledge of magick, magick fighting hidden battles for supremacy over our plain of existence, and the goddesses’ presence radiating through the world all was well... or so we hoped.

New Years Day, 2007 was the first time a public magickal fight happened. Two gypsies were hunting a demon and in a moment of rashness, they vanquished it in the middle of a rather busy street. The people in the street assumed it to be some kind of magick show and threw coins at the two gypsies who awkwardly smiled and waved thanking everyone for watching. The two gypsies faced the Council, having their active powers stripped as punishment for openly using their powers. The Magickal University in San Francisco, a private university known for it’s selective list of students (obviously only allowing those with magickal backgrounds to attend) officially called Harcourt University also received a bit of trouble for allowing it’s students to have such disregard for the Will.

The Council hoped that by making an example of the two gypsies that things would get better, but they were wrong. Out of fear of losing their powers good beings stopped fighting back if they were in public, thus causing demons to attack in public more, no longer fearing the wrath of their own supreme government body; the Fates. On April 25, 2007 the Council officially announced that fighting back in public, only if absolutely necessary to follow other fragments of the will, would be excused. Along with that announcement they unbound the powers of the two gypsies and magickal deaths seemed to be more and more common, even with good fighting back.

The scales have once again begun to tip as Slayers are being awoken with powers they don’t understand, good and evil clashing in the shadows and in public, and the Council falling apart from a rotten member, the world of magick turns to the strongest beacon, Harcourt University. Hoping that the school would offer more protection to people, beings of good magick started enrolling for no reason other than to find shelter. The Fates, seeing the school as one big target, assaulted it, reducing the beacon of light to nothing more than a pile of smoldering ashes and dead bodies that were rapidly cleaned before human authorities noted them. The world is losing it’s supportive threads and things are surely headed downhill and it’s time for you to take a stand. Battle for life, battle for freedom, battle against hatred, but remember that nothing can destroy
