Dan is basically a nice, laid back, easygoing guy. He's a very focused and thoughtful person, though his brothers and sisters used to tease him for being too serious and relcutant to try new things. He's slightly reserved, but warms up to new people very quickly, although he has a habit of cracking jokes when he's nervous. He hates being forced to interact with new people, and public speaking. He's perfectly content to blend into the crowd and while he's friendly, has never really been very outgoing. While his siblings chose careers in the arts as well, Dan loves painting, and the freedom that comes along with being just a signature at the bottom.

He can be reluctant to speak up for himself, and has never really been an angry person. He has a small group of friends that he's comfortable around, most of which he met in high school. Dan is a good friend, and not selfish in the least. He's a very good listener and cares for his friends as if they were family. His family is his life, and comes before everything, even his art.

Dan definitely sees his powers as more of a curse than a blessing. He tries not to use them to his advantage, and tries to block them out for fear of accidentally repeating something that someone didn’t want him to hear. Dan often underestimates himself, but he's a very determined and strong willed person who could probably handle anything.

history || Dan was born into a large family that was crammed into a very tiny house. He often describes his childhood as being like he was raised in a zoo, with him as the guinea pig. The baby of the family, Dan was often the victim of torture, whether it was thanks to his sisters treating him like a real live baby doll, or his brother trying out his wrestling moves.

Daniel learned to appreciate a little peace and quiet when he got it, and often spent his free time doodling in notebooks. While all of his siblings are somewhat artistically inclined (his sisters do community theatre and his brother is in a local band) Daniel hid his talents until he turned 12 and asked his parents for an easel and painting supplies. Firm believers in encouraging their kids’ creativity, they bought him everything he asked for the next day.

Dan maintained good grades in high school, but didn’t manage to land a scholarship playing basketball like he hoped. Knowing that his parents definitely couldn’t afford to help him with college, Dan worked odd jobs to pay for art classes at the local college. While he believes that art can’t really be taught, he enjoyed being around people with similar interests for once, and was finally convinced he’d found his niche when his power emerged.

At first he thought he was going crazy, but Dan soon realized that he could read minds. He thought it was kind of fun at first, but it was starting to get harder and harder to concentrate at school, and the constant noise often gave him headaches.

He tried his best to hide it, but one night while the Ryans were having their weekly family dinner, he heard something he couldn't help but blurt out . His sister, Kelly, who he had always thought of as boy crazy, had a girlfriend and she was meeting her that night. He tried his best to ask her about it quietly, but Sarah (the loudmouth) told everyone by the time the night was over. Kelly was mortified, and Dan, embarassed about what he and his powers had done, knew he had to go.

He packed up his stuff the next day and started his road trip, determined to stay away until he found a way to cure or control his powers.

On the road, he met Mackenzie Parker, who was on a bit of a road trip herself. The two developed a close friendship, even across cities and states, but their feelings for each other began to over power them.

After many months of beating around the bush, they're finally together, and things seem to be picture perfect. There's only one problem: Kenzie still doesn't know about Dan's powers, and since he resisted the YED's call a few months back, the headaches he's been getting for the past two years have only been worsening. It's getting harder and harder to hide his secret from Kenzie, even though guilt has already set in.
