Fav FF series. I only play FF 6, 7 & 8. Others im not really into it bcoz Im busy with my university life and all. I know the graphic for FF 10 and above are awsome but I still like FF 7 & 8 better - both cahracters & storyline.

Probably (in no order) IV, VI, IX and X.
IV has a good story and a nice set of characters thought it does restrict who you can use (bar the recent GBA port).
VI is easily the best of the lot. An excellent story combined with brilliant characters each with their own unique abilities that makes them all play differently. Plus you're not restricted to who you can use. You don't have a pre-assigned "leader" like Cloud, Cecil or Zidane. For example I often use Sabin, Cyan, Gau and any of the following - Gogo, Edgar, Mog or Setzer.
IX was a nice return to basics. The plot was a bit cliche but I liked the characters (bar Eiko). The class system was good, especally when they merged Monk with Ninja for Amarant.
I enjoyed X's battle system and story. A number of the charcaters were interesting though I did find Tidus to be annoying. I loved how you technically had a party of seven and you could switch them out at any time depending on what you needed. The Sphere grid was also excellent, allowing a play to customize their character, though sooner or later they could all play the same.
I did enjoy VII but frankly I've lost the vast majority of my interest in it. While Sephiroth was different from the generic "mega powerful mage", bar his sword (I like katanas) he had no real feature that made him stand out in my opinion. Barret, Tifa, Cid and Red XIII were all unique and interesting characters but it's a shame they (along with everyone else) plays the same bar the limit breaks.
I detest VIII. A horrible story which isn't helped by boring characters. Squall is just annoying, Riona was iffy, Selphie could be funny or bloody annoying and Zell, Quistis and Irivine had the potential to be interesting but sadly under used. Frankly they only purely interesting characters were Laguna and his friends. It's a huge shame they aren't playable at the end because frankly I'd much rather have Laguna as the leader than his son.
