Title: So then......

PigmanRDFC - November 3, 2009 08:30 AM (GMT)
...... you travel to us with a confidence boosting win under your belts, but we have a massive lift in confidence ourselves by beating Luton Town in their own backyard with a performance of true grit and determination, the kind I've not seen players in a Diamonds side demonstrate for years - looking forward to Saturday, it should be a cracker and the prize for both clubs is vitally important from a financial point of view. But we're supporters, who gives a stuff about that, its important as it gets us one more step nearer that potentially lucrative and highly enjoyable trip to a Premiership side (if we're lucky).

Justin Edinburgh has got our lads playing for the shirt at last, while I'd be the first to admit we're not the greatest team in the Conference, we are playing well, having a good run of results and you'll find us (hopefully) a tough nut to crack. Our front men, especially Tomlin, are playing well, we've good movement down the flanks and if Byrne plays, we'll look very mobile and competitive in midfield.

The only thing that will beat us is attitude (or an over zealous ref ;) ). If we're professional, show you the respect that you deserve, and concentrate on our game and our strengths (and keep 11 men on the pitch), then we'll run out winners, I predict comfortably so and have made the prediction of 4-1 on our messageboard (hope that doesn't bite me in the arse :D ).

One thing I will say is that IF you beat us, then you'll get the utmost respect from me and good wishes for the next round, we're gracious losers most of us (years of practice :D ) and won't begrudge you the win if you carve it out, the onus is on us as the home side to win the game.

I won't wish you luck, but I will wish you all a safe journey (and a sad one home :P ), hopefully get the chance to chat in person to a few of you in the bar before the game.

4-1? I would hope and predict that it’s a little closer than that, being a cup tie and all. We look solid defensively and have our most able back line in years. Hopefully you lot come into the game thinking ‘they’re a league below us’ and we give you a nasty surprise. I’d love for 1-1 and a replay :) Should be a great day out anyway, your ground looks very tidy and it’ll be great to see a few hundred in red and blue.

PigmanRDFC - November 3, 2009 11:23 AM (GMT)
I don't think any of us will take you for granted or think "you're lower league so an easy touch", we lost to Evesham last year 2-0, so we know it'll be tough. The reason I predicted 4-1 is that I know how we're playing, its not me being over confident or arrogant, I know only too well that prediction could bite me in the arse, but its a bit of fun isn't it?

I think this Diamonds team are far too professional to take their eye off the ball - Justin Edinburgh wouldn't allow it, they know if they do that, they'll be dropped.

I love the FA Cup and am really looking forward to this, hopefully I'll be looking forward to the 2nd Round draw as well.

Your home form suggests that you are quite good at home P 8 W 5 D 1 L 3, but then also you have scored 16 but then you have leaked 14 goals at home, so that suggests we are playing you at the right place, compared to your away form scored 12 let in 6.

I still think it will be a tight game on both parties and the best result apart from the obvious would be a draw and replay back at ours for the money

PigmanRDFC - November 3, 2009 11:52 AM (GMT)
But when you drill down into those stats it possibly shows a different picture, opening game of the season, lost 0-2 vs Salisbury - I still don't know how we lost that, we dominated, missed penalty etc etc - very confusing. The other 2 defeats were both 0-1 vs Wimbledon and Altrincham, the last was a truly dreadful performance/match.

Since then we have found some form, had 4 wins on the trot and only conceeded 2 goals in those 4 games, a close competitive game with Tamworth which we won 3-2.

4 of the 14 goals came in a freaky match vs Grays where we won 5-4.

I will say this, and its no secret - stop Tomlin and you'll stop us, he makes it all happen, 3 match ban, 3 defeats, comes back, 4 wins on the trot ! Sure he doesn't do it all himself, but he makes things happen - shame he'll be off in January, he'll miss the Arsenal game :P

stewson - November 3, 2009 12:22 PM (GMT)
we may have got a win last night, but yor boss won't have learned much from it as we didn't play near our best. A workman like performance would be how I would describe it - we did enough to beat a pretty poor opposition but no more.

where we're different from you is that we dont' have just one man that you have to stop. As an example, our main striker scored three/four (depending on who you believe - the other was an OG) in the 2nd qualy rd and our left back scored the two that beat Histon so we can score from any where :P

PigmanRDFC - November 3, 2009 12:31 PM (GMT)
We're not a "one man team", far from it, but he is a class act and makes so much happen. I think Edinburgh will focus on our strengths, we know on our day we're good enough to beat anyone, but we need to keep playing the way we have recently.

PigmanRDFC - November 3, 2009 12:32 PM (GMT)
So, predictions?

Ben .:HUFC:. - November 3, 2009 12:35 PM (GMT)
I'll go a rather unfortunate (on our part) 1-2, in which we might have earned a draw with a bit more luck. I do think it'll be closely fought.

I can deal with the despair, just not the hope! ;)

wyksie - November 3, 2009 12:43 PM (GMT)
0-0

mick hufc - November 3, 2009 01:15 PM (GMT)
Didn't think it would be long before this boosting thread turned into a prediction thread.
So full of boast and of confidence i predict a tight game of 0-3, Chukki to score along with Carts and Webster, a crowd of 1630 and Leeds at the Greene King in the next round.
After all any thing can happen in the FA Cup.

PigmanRDFC - November 3, 2009 01:47 PM (GMT)
Please don't put words in my mouth, re-read what I've said eh? Don't mistake my confidence in my team's abilities for boasting, I'm not giving it large, just giving my opinion and seeking yours.

You win, I'll be the first on here to congratulate you! I don't think one thing I've said is "boastful", far from it, I'm being very respectful of your team and saying our players and management should be also or they'll come a cropper. You're right, anything can happen in the FA Cup, we're very aware of that - you have nothing to lose, we're at home and will need to attack.

Lee's Zeke Rowe fan base - November 3, 2009 01:47 PM (GMT)
At half time last night I said I'd rather us win against Gainsboro than on Saturday so as we beat them in the end, I'll now go for a score of 0-2 :(

The league is our bread & butter and the team is more than good enough to be among the play-offs at seasons end. We've had a good run in the cup, made a bit of money so if we go out, then it won't be the end of the world. Saying that, we've never been knocked out in the 1st round, so Rushden be warned! ;)

stewson - November 3, 2009 03:11 PM (GMT)
I'm not going to predict a score, but I just have a sneaky feeling that this is our year in the cup and that we will be in the 2nd round draw.

And as Northampton Town is my other team, a win over Rushden would be cause for double celebration for me :D

mick hufc - November 3, 2009 03:13 PM (GMT)
Sorry Pagman

Miss spelt boosting and i got boasting.
But then again, re-reading the above, there does appear to be a little boasting going on? and who the heck are Luton Town? i've never heard of them :P

DJ - November 3, 2009 05:42 PM (GMT)
i predict football will be the winner ;)

Rocket Ron - November 3, 2009 08:48 PM (GMT)

Blimey,Wiggy the 'Accies' were the last non-hinckley team I saw.In their first division championship season when they won 3-1 at Cappielow (Greenock Morton),a year last boxing day I think(?).

wigstonknitter - November 4, 2009 03:12 PM (GMT)
Hamilton have lost the last FIVE games I've been too, So have been band by my uncle. Still going for Kilmarnock game on 26th Jan, so if antbody is a betting man
Lump on Killie that day!!!! I may have lost the faith a bit with a 632 mile roundtrip each time.
Better luck as a Hinckley fan as I'm played 7, won 6, drawn 1, this season.

Roll on Rushden !

Redvark - November 6, 2009 06:27 PM (GMT)
The Accies getting promoted co-incided with me having to give up my Jambo's season ticket - they are the only SPL team I haven't seen - must try and remedy that soon
