Looks more like playing a guitar instead of a bass to me, not that it matters. Maybe it's just because I prefer fingerstyle and can't handle picks. I've gotta practice more, so that I could play that some day, too. :(

There's nothing wrong with using a pick on a bass. Everyone is different and for some people fingers are easier and for others---picks are easier.

You should definitley work at using both, but don't let someone make you feel bad for using what you like.

I personally am best when forming my fingers as if I'm holding a pic, but actually just hitting my index or midde finger on the strings. But, it eats my fingernails quickly so I only do it when I really need to play well.

I'm fine with a pick, but prefer the feel and sound of using my fingers like a pic.

I'm not good with finger style, but am getting better.
