just grabbed an EP from a new band that seems to be getting a lot of hype in japan.

they are called Psysalia psysalis psyche and the are a very energetic indie band.

here's their blurb from myspace

We're an indies band in Tokyo. We play gigs. We go crazy. Our minds are full of beauty and our hearts are full of poison. Come see our gig sometime, yeah?

BIO : "When I first met the vocalist of this fledgling band a year ago he drunkenly stumbled into my apartment and proclaimed Kiyoharu was his punk idol. He then proceeded to ask me if I knew who hide and Kurt Cobain were, squealed in delight that they were favourites and drunkenly sang the Blue Hearts, squirming all over the floor, until he passed out.

The last time I saw his band, a year and many new fans later he had a full mosh pit at his command while he destroyed the stage in a frenzy of energy Guitar Wolf might have a hard time pulling off.

Psysalia Psysalis Psyche get a large chunk of their name from the latin for the Portuguese Man of War, a deadly creature of the sea. Like the band's namesake, Psysalia have an amorphous, floating sound of heady distorted guitar, melodic bass and electric processing and a poison vocal. Influences for the band include a heavy list of western favourites, from Babyshambles and Primal Scream, to the Strokes, the Beatles and Sonic Youth.

Japanese influences range all over the map from Guitar Wolf and the Blue Hearts into the more eclectic reaches of Japanese hip hop. Their music is certaintly a melodic, embedded rock with a lot of quirky processing and a very heavily layered sound.

The lyrics are heartfelt, subject to change at the emotional whim of the band's vocalist, Shion. He says of his onstage antics, including but not limited to the destruction of equiptment, emotional outbursts, and impromptu feedback art, that he does purely what he feels and the lyrics as well as the style the music presents itself as are all a big part of that.

Of his fans, he described to me that his ideal fan was someone who would 'Embrace him warmly first, and then stab him in the back.' Dramatic, no?

The band has one mini album, the self-titled Psysalia Psysalis Psyche, that was released in the summer of 2006.
The band plays extensively in Tokyo." - daturazoku

I see they got influences from The Blue Hearts, which is one of my top favourite band. Check out the song Linda Linda and Boku no Migite

and as The Blue Hearts are no more, the vocalist and guitars formed a new band in 2007 called The Cro-Magnons, they are just as awesome as The Blue-hearts
