I'll maybe travel around in southern Japan with my friend for 1-2 weeks at the end of September.
Does anyone know of any places I should visit/anything I should do?

Actually, I'm not sure whether we'll restrict the trip to just the south or not, so if you know of something interesting in other parts please tell me.

HOW far south? Are we talking like, South central (tokyo) or like Osaka and further? Or maybe somewhere in between like Kobe or Kyoto?

I guess anything between Okinawa and Tokyo.
But since we haven't planned much yet perhaps it would be stupid of me to confine my request to the south, so tips on interesting places to visit anywhere in Japan will do :)

Hiroshima, Miya Jima (my favorite temple in all of Japan), Kyoto (while here, go see Kiyomizu and go to the restaurant called "The Lockup"), Osaka.

If you've got the time and sense of adventure, go up north to the Aomori prefecture. Its a very different Japan up there. Open spaces, big houses, bamboo forests. Also, Aomori city is great! If you've REALLY got a sense of adventure, go to the temple grounds at the top of Mount Osorezan.

Go to the gogo concert on the 5th ;)

I went to all of these places + Hokkaido. Otaru and Sapporo to be exact.
