i know that go is 5 is japanese but how is 69=rock? i saw this on dana's blog and dont doubt that she is right. but am wondering about the translation.

5 = go

6 = roku

9 = ku

5+6+9 = gorokuku

Japanese will often combine two of the same sound to make a harder sound. So both "ku" combine to make "kku". You can hear it by a slight pause just after "ro", like: goro,kku. but the pause is shorter than a normal comma pause. You can also see the pause when written becuase a double sound like that is always preceded by a chisai tsu, or a small tsu symbol, but it is silent--it is not said. The small tsu literally is a visual note to double the sound that immediately follows it. so instead of writing gorokku, youi actually write, GOROtsuKU. It makes more sense in Japanese characters, but hopefully you get the idea.

so now, 5+6+9 = gorokku (GOROtsuKU)

gorokku sounds like "go rock" converted to Japanese sounds. Written, it would be in Katakana becuase they are foreign words.

so that's how 569 = go rock.

the tour name comes from that also.. there was a big screen with "SU569" (sugorokku) on it .. well toptube, the mix of roku + ku would give a rokku, but also, the kanji for 6 六 is the one that comes for example from Roppongi (六本木) so.. it has 2 ways to become rokku :ph43r:
