What exactly should we be talking about to become a thriving forum? I don't really think music forums based on one band serve any real purpose.
You will post when a single/album comes out, and maybe about a tour.

Well I get to know people that love Go Go as well (although I don't usually talk about Go Go stuff). I listen to few artists but I only belong to this forum.
Kind of like how none of my friends on the subaru forum talk about subaru... we talk about off topic stuff... I guess that's why I am like this on this forum as well -ui-
Dana - March 8, 2008 11:55 AM (GMT)
well the electric mole forums are about one artist/band and look how thriviing it is......
Yahiko - March 8, 2008 02:35 PM (GMT)
but then theres Shiina Ringo, Tokyo Jihen, PETROL'Z, PEZ, Appa, Hirama Mikio ... and most of them are popular (eccept for appa?)
GO!GO! is Yuu solo (stopped), Chiriwaka (Stopped) and Akko solo (stopped)

Dana - March 8, 2008 03:06 PM (GMT)

It takes a lot of exposure, a lot of consistancy, and a lot of luck to become a band that becomes the FAVORITE band of many people. So much the favorite that that is the band that those people mention first and last in most situations. Pine so hard for info about them (concerts, rare tracks, new tracks, general discussions, interviews) that they would join a fan-club or exclusive forum.
In Japan, gogo probably has this status. Because they've had TONS of exposure there, and played concerts for probably half a million people now, and have had those concerts broadcasted to several million by way of television.
In this U.S., there are a few big things holding back foreign bands.
1. They are foreign. Most americans aren't very patient/accepting with foreign languages. If it isn't mostly in english, most people will dismiss it immediately.
2. Concerts/Tours and TV are sooooo important for exposure. Concerts allow thousands to be there and experience the band all in the same moment. Gogo has played a handfull small venue concerts here for maybe 3,000 people all total. That's....not very many people. They need to be pulling that many people per show as headliners like they do in Japan. They also need to hit more locations, regardless of show size. They didn't even xuxaing come to Seattle. One of most important music cities in the country, and they didn't come. Seriously, had they come to Seattle, things may be a little bit better for them here. Seattle is also THE Asian port. So many things about playing there made sense, I cannot believe that they didn't.
3. Even after seeing them in concert, people probably don't REALLY stick with them after hearing the CDs. GO!GO!7188 is awesome live. Their performance is so undeniable that in that moment, in that experience, people i'm sure are forgetting/not caring that the lyrics are not in english. Because they are being rocked so hard and can't believe a 3 piece band is so full, so tight.
then they pop in the CD. foreign lyrics. oh yeah, I dunno if I can really keep up with this? Also, about half of gogo's songs have pretty bad production on the CD's. The recordings are just not that good. After hearing them live, things are kind of underwhelming for half of the songs.
If gogo had better production across the board, TV coverage, and a headlining full size tour, I think they could break the language barrier for the mainstream and make a massive dent in this country. but sadly its not gonna happen. They'd need an american company to eat the cost of the tour and finding a company willing to do that for an un-established foreign language band is basically impossible.
We here, are the few, the proud, the ones who know ;_;
It is no fault of this forum that more people aren't here.

The same in Germany.
One day last year, I was listening to music, MUCC (japanese visu band), while sitting in the bus. My friend took one of my earphone (?). At this moment there was no lyrics in the song. She said "sounds good!".I said "It's japanese". She was like "uuoh" and put the earphone out of her ear.
Many of my friends are like that.
But one likes gogo! And every day she want to learn a new japanese word lol

I'm glad my friends are tolerant toward the music I listen to.. they wouldn't listen to it themselves but they're always curious who gogo are. but they often ask me if I understand what they're singing.. it doesnt matter to me though if I understand it or not, the music is what matters.. not the language.

The forum is not too exclusive. Sometimes there's too much mention of stuff happening outside (msn?) and it may make some people feel left out or annoyed.
There are many internation GoGo fans that don't hang out here. Possible reasons:
- they're not "forums" people. It's not their thing.
- they already participate in other "related" forums and it's enough for them.
- they hang out/get information from other community-type internet medium: facebook groups, livejournal communities, etc.
- they like GoGo but not enough to go write on forums about it.
Now to make GoGo more well-known in mainstream western countries is not very realistic. Most people are simply too annoyed by foreign lyrics, sadly. I find this particularly sad in my country. Our main language is French, but with constant exposure to English culture from the US, so everyone has been listening to "foreign" lyrics since their childhood!
