Handpick Qualifications
The following is the list of qualifications to be considered for a handpick position on the 2008 Cleveland All Star Team.
1. Men must qualify with at least 1,600 points during Phase I.
2. Women must qualify with at least 1,100 points during Phase I.
3. Must have been on the team for the 2 prior years. (2006 & 2007).
4. Must have attended a minimum of 3 All Star Fundraiser Events since January 2008.
The team consists of 28 men and 15 women.
Handpicks will not make up more than 50% of the team. This means no more than 14 men and 8 women will earn a handpick position on the 2008 Cleveland All Star Team!
This letter went out to the entire 2007 All Star Team. I think it is important the rest of the CDC understands what fundraising efforts are required in order to send a team to Columbus in November. I am also hopeful that people read this, come out to support the team and then try out on May 17, 2008. That will be the first day of Phase I tryouts. Location will be announced at a later time. Thank you, Jamie Mawson, All Star Chair.
Dear 2007 All Star Team Member,
I want to take this opportunity to let you know that Jamie Mawson has been appointed as the All Star Chairperson for the 2008 All Star Team. I am hopeful that the success of the team as in year’s past will continue!
The All Star Committee has already started the fundraising efforts in order to send a team to Columbus this November for the Quad City Challenge. After reviewing previous year’s expenses, it has been determined that $5,500 needs to be raised in order to provide each 2008 All Star team-member with one night hotel accommodations, an All Star shirt, and hopefully no team fee will be required.
The first fundraiser held in January was very successful and raised $345. Since then, Jamie and the committee have taken every opportunity to run 50/50 drawings at trails and other events and will continue to do so.
The 2nd fundraiser was held February 9 at Gunselman’s and raised $244. The 3rd is scheduled for March 22 at the Fraternal Order of the Orioles. Up-to-date fundraising information is available on the CDC website at darter.org. Check the front page, the events page and the All Star section of the forum page.
As we all know, the CDC is still going through some restructuring and as of right now, there is NO money in the budget for the All Star team. This means that the $5,500 mentioned above needs to be raised through-out the year at these events. We believe that attendance at these fundraisers will be crucial to make this happen.
So, in addition to the other handpick qualifications, attendance at no less than 3 of these fundraising events will be also be added to that list. There will be at least 1 fundraising effort every month between now and the handpick deadline, which is Saturday, August 16, 2008. That means there will be at least 8-10 events between now and that time to meet that qualification.
Also, as the winning team, Cleveland is required to provide chalker prizes on Sunday for the Quad City Challenge. We are asking that the 2007 All Star team start putting little prizes away for that day. If you want to bring them to the fundraisers, Jamie will be happy to store them until November.
If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please feel free to email Jamie at allstar@darter.org.
Thank you all very much for your continued support of the All Star Team!
