Title: This Is Funny!
Jmoses #237-03 - January 14, 2008 02:44 PM (GMT)
So I was given the excuse that a team from Gold 2 on Monday was dropped down to silver in order to accommodate their driving distance. Let me make it clear that I would have no problem with that. The part where I begin to have an issue is that I looked at where they were re-placed and it doesn’t appear that they drive much, if at all, less. This is a team that I know has a higher caliber of play then mine, and they are now ranked below me.
Can someone please explain this to me? Please explain it here, that way everyone else will know as well.

the team he is talking about beat us last session i think it was 9-2.
and looking everything over they travel a longer distance then we do.
we have to go to North Royalton two times that is our longest drive. they travel there twice. as well as making a trip to Strongsville, so to say they were moved to help there travel need's is a poor excuse. they were the first miss placed team to call and request to be moved. since there are no more bye weeks we are stuck donating every week to teams that are well out of our league.

I can tell you out of the 96 teams placed your team is the only team that is complaining about where they were placed. The reasons you were given were all legitimate. We changed the best of three format for you to accommodate some of your wishes. But it is working against you. Instead of having 3 chances to win against your opponent you have only one now, so your odds of having a successful evening are much less. If you are in the bottom 2 of your division this half you will be moved to silver next half as we have already discussed. Again, this is an ever changing process with each half people will move up and down. Hope you will stick it out and see what happens.

This isnt the lottery, it isnt based on luck. The odds are no better in the best of 3 than they are in the best of 1 if your compitition is hands down better than you. Go play one on one, best of three against Lebron, I guarantee your odds of losing 2 are the same as losing 1. The only thing that is a given is that by playing the best of 3 is that you'll get more competitive playing time and get to know your opponent better, and hopefully with the experiance you'll get better in return.
As far as travel time is concerned, the 2 bars the furthest apart on my schedule are Johnny T's in Northfield and the Harbor Inn in the flats which is 26.22 miles, are there any further apart on your schedule?

The travel issue is a very difficult one. With fewer teams then we had a decade ago everyone is going to have some traveling to do. At scheduling we do our very best to take teams centrally located in their skill range. As for the East Side teams that schedule was handled by John Krecek. He is the "East side Liaison" and came to scheduling and offered to help with the "East side Teams' as he said he knew most of them and could schedule them appropriately. Once again I say that this is an evolving process and we will move teams up and down as we see fit. As for the team they were given the option of the other division with the bye in it and they decided to take it. In the future I will be more stringent on letting teams move after scheduling. Once we get a few sessions under our belt and our able to easily recognize the serious darter from the social-out-for-a-good-time-with-friends- darter we will "weed" out the good teams and rank them accordingly. I am hopeful that as we adjust teams session after session that they will be happy with their placement more often than not. As I stated before if I see a team or they bring it to my attention that they had excessive travel in a particular session then the next session I will make every effort to locate them in a central a with less travel the next session. I am also going to the BOD Friday to ask for several THINGS that should bolster our membership and team count that should make scheduling easier in the future. My every hope is that you the darter will bear with us temporarily and give us the opportunity to prove to everyone that this league is the best in Cleveland. We will make it work and it will be the best ever!! I promise you that.
All the best, and hit lots of trip 20's!!!!!!
Jon

I wasnt complaining about my travel, I was just stating a fact. I live further southeast than the Cdc extends so I expect travel time. Now as for some of my teammates it is a different story but they also live closer to central locations within my schedule.
By the way John did a good job.

Does all of this really make sense to you. I'm impressed.

Hey Jmoses and Terry,
Instead of dredging up long settled issues. why don't you go to some of the other threads and post you thoughts on some of the polls I have started. Your feedback will be invaluable. You 2 had every opportunity to come to scheduling and help out and add you feedback into the process and you did not. So learn something from this, come to scheduling from now on. While your at it come to BOD meetings and air you grievances their in an official capacity. In fact there are some open seats, why not join the BOD and change things from the inside. We meet on Sundays at 9:30am on the 1st Sunday of every month. The place is yet to be decided. It will be posted though.
By the way what is a necromancer????
And I think I told you generally the same thing the 1st week of the session so no it did not take me 3 weeks to come up with it.
Anyway try to be more positive and productive,
Jon
no smilies were added to this post as I do not feel smiliey right now

is a true quote! He did what he was supposed to do and put the teams in the divisions they best belonged to.
I could discredit your quote with a little animation also,

Im sure you'll find that the board does take grievances into consideration at these meetings (not that there is a prefect way to settle grievances) but at least you'll find they are listening (or at least they did 15 years ago).
Also consider this; unless a system is designed to rank players and teams there will always be unbalanced divisions, even then if the teams become balanced within a division the division will be wide spread and create more travel within the division. There just arent enough darts players confined within any certian area to seperate the casual darter from the serious darter. So when you and I show up once a week for league we may end up playing against the person who belongs to multiple leagues and shows up at every trails location and blind draw event. Thats just the way it is, and which is the reason you'll find more darts players that used to belong to the club than you'll find that do belong to the club.
