Title: Posting Schedules On The Cdc Web Site
Description: need to have access to them

Edward - September 14, 2005 05:52 PM (GMT)
I believe the time has come for the CDC to start posting the current schdeules on their web site. It has been a idea that has been brought up before. There have been variuos reasons for not posting it on the web...i.e....not enough darters have access to the web, no one knows the name of their team let alone the division they are in, the PDF files would be too big and too long to download while you search for the correct one.
What is the point of posting the weekly standings on the web site if there isn't enough people looking at it? If what you say about not enough darters having access to the web is true, then few are looking at the standings as well. That PDF file would be no bigger than the current standings file (albeit there is only ONE file for the standings) and would only have to be updated (for the most part) once before the start of the season.
As far as not knowing the name of their team or division they are in...maybe I'm giving too much credit to our fellow darters. In the years that I have been playing in the CDC, the opponents that I have played against seem to be very interested in their team and in darting in general. I would hope that most of them would know the name of their team and the division they play in. I also would think that those who DON'T know this information probably don't access the web for ANY information provided (schedules, standings, ect...).
Maybe the tiem has come for the CDC to PLEASE post the schedules to the web. It would make things easier for us who need quick information and follow our team's progress in the league.
What do you all think? Please let them know by emailing or calling and make that suggestion. Thanks.

Edward,

Excellent suggestion. Adding the league schedules (and cleaning up the web page in general) is an area that has been on the back burner for awhile. I think its time to make this a high priority.

I will add this to the agenda for our next Planning Committee Meeting which will be this upcoming Saturday (September 17) at 9am at the Club's office. You, or anyone else in the Club are certainly welcome to attend and add your input on how to make our website more useful for our members.

If anyone else has any specific suggestions for improving our web page, please post them here.

Jeff Inman
Planning Committee Chairperson

Putting the schedule on the web site was a really good idea.
What other changes are you making to it?
Are you going to delete all the stuff that says page not avalable or not found when you click on it? Most of the pictures dont work.

Thanks for the positive feedback and comments. And thanks to Edward for suggesting this in the first place. Adding the schedules to the CDC web page is something that I hope will be useful to everyone. We’ll be watching the web page counters to see what kind of response it gets.

There will be more changes coming. Adding this forum and especially the calendar feature was a HUGE step in the right direction :D (Thanks again Dennis!). Killing the dead links and removing the outdated material will be next. Ultimately, it is our goal to create a “world-class” web page that will be very user-friendly, easy to navigate, and chalk full of useful and updated information with “on-line” capabilities to register teams, pay fees, record weekly league results, etc. However, before all of this can happen, we’ll need to address some very fundamental issues such as updating our antiquated hardware and software. Of course we have a VERY limited budget to work with, so this is not something that is going to happen overnight, and realistically, we need to incorporate this plan into the Club’s overall business plan and budget. But fortunately a plan is in the works and changes will be coming!

Keep posting any other ideas or suggestions here. And if you know anyone experienced with web page design or html programming, send ‘em my way!

There's a crapload of changes that are intended to be made. No time to list it all here right now.
We're hurting in the hardware/software department. It took 3 different computers to get those schedules up, for instance.

If you come across a dead link, mail it directly to scott@darter.org
I don't have a utility that will sniff them out right now. Most of the freebie stuff on the Web nowadays that does that stuff is loaded w/ spyware and we can't afford another crash like we've already had due to that stuff.

Now that the schedules are up, it looks like they're getting a few lookers. Nothing outstanding though.

Another pending change, long overdue, is to remove those annoying Javascript buttons on the left margin of the main page. They don't even work now if you're running IE9 or better, I'm told.
We don't know this stuff in the office b/c we're running Netscape, and our IE is ver 6.

The Final Summer Lge Standings has a link to a Tally of Individual Achievements (writeups) that might interest some people. We'll see. It's really hard to know what people want unless they tell you. And in the case of the league schedules, sometimes it's just too much work/time to justify the amount of use they might get. I say "might" because just about everything is a matter of speculation, until there's some hard data on it.

In the case of webpages, hit counters tell the final story as to whether it's popular or not. Unfortunately, you don't know how many hits something will get until you actually go through all the trouble of making it and publishing. :(

Howdy fellas! I would love to offer my skills in the webdesign area for your site. I have been a coldfusion programmer for the past six years. Feel free to check out some of my most recent work. Reserach Organics, Inc. and hopefully I can show my talents for Darter.org
