As mentioned on the Week #5 2006 Summer League Standings, it is my intention to propose the creation of a committee to address concerns of Affiliate Members. I will elaborate on this further when I have more time. In the meantime, the following text is verbatim from the Standings. Your commentary is welcome and requested. Thank you in advance!

The following proposal will be submitted to the Board of Directors for consideration at the July 5 meeting. Actually, there will most likely be more to it but this one is a work in progress.
- The new committee shall be called the Affiliate Bar Committee [ABC].
- The committee shall be chaired by either a bartender, manager, or owner of a Club Affiliate bar.
- The chair shall be appointed by the President, with approval from the board of directors, who may consider nominations from any Members.
- The chair may appoint any Club Member to assist them at meetings, but all other committee members are must be either a bartender, manager or owner of a Club Affiliate.
- Purpose for the committee is to convene and formally discuss concerns about League Darts and/or The Cleveland Darter Club. Proposals on policy shall be submitted to the board of directors for review. Conversely, the board of directors can submit policy proposals to the ABC for a formal opinion.
- Meetings will be scheduled as need arise. An agenda shall be kept by The Club Office and the chair will be apprised when there is necessity.
- All official correspondence shall be maintained and distributed by The Club Office at the discretion and direction of the board of directors.
This recent controversy over sponsorship of Weekly Fees by Affiliate Bars has indicated to me that our Affiliate taverns do not have a formal voice for their issues and concerns. Yes, like any Member they are welcome to address the board of directors. But perhaps a more formal outlet will help conjure up some new methods of solving some old problems.
President Tom Janis and I will be submitting to the board a proposed solution for “team sponsorship by bars” in the coming months. While we will probably mail it out to Affiliate bars to their consideration as well, these types of mailing rarely elicit a response. For that matter, mailings to Affiliates are historically a 1-way street, by and large. We rarely if ever hear back from them. Typically, the best form of communication that the league has to its affiliate members, en masse, is through team captains. Perhaps a special committee, such as ABC, will help to change that.
As mentioned, the ABC Proposal is a work in progress. |
