I think Gazza would not be the best manager in the world for them. But he would draw them a decent crowd which would help them financially.

BlackandAmber - October 26, 2005 04:43 PM (GMT)
Gazza geared up for Kettering start

Paul Gascoigne and Paul Davis are hoping to be able to take charge of Nationwide North club Kettering ahead of Saturday's clash with Droyslden.

Businessman Imraan Ladak expects his consortium to complete their long-awaited takeover of the club this week and that would mean Gazza and Davis joining as manager and head coach respectively.

Davis watched the Poppies book themselves an FA Cup First Round date with old rivals Stevenage Borough thanks to a 3-0 victory over Conference National side Gravesend & Northfleet, although Gascoigne was absent following a minor neck operation.

According to Ladak the formalities of the takeover deal should be completed by Thursday at the latest.

It's as well Gazza has got his operation out of the way - there are plenty of managerial issues likely to give him a pain in the neck in the weeks ahead.

Gascoigne leaves Kettering post

Paul Gascoigne has left Kettering Town after just five weeks as manager.
The 38-year-old took charge at the Conference North outfit on 27 October after arriving as part of a consortium that had taken over the club.

A statement from Town's owner Imraan Ladak said: "Following discussions it has been decided that Paul is unable to carry out his duties as manager.

"My immediate priority is to appoint a new manager rather than discuss the reasons for Paul's departure."

The former England international was in charge of the Poppies for six Conference matches - winning two, drawing two and losing two.

Gascoigne's assistant Paul Davis has also left the Rockingham Road club.

Gascoigne arrested over assault

Former England football star Paul Gascoigne has been arrested over an alleged assault outside a hotel.

Mr Gascoigne, 38, was arrested on Monday night outside the Hope Street Hotel in Liverpool after a member of the press said he had been attacked.

Merseyside Police confirmed a 38-year-old was in custody in the city.

Mr Gascoigne, an ex-Newcastle, Spurs and Rangers player returned to football as non-league Kettering Town's manager in October, but was sacked on Monday.

He was in Liverpool to speak at a fund-raising event for a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre.

It is not clear if he was staying at the Hope Street Hotel, which styles itself as Liverpool's first boutique hotel.

Paramedics were called and they treated the journalist outside the hotel. He may also have received hospital treatment.

"The person who reported the matter was a member of the press who received medical treatment at the scene," Merseyside Police said.

They would not say which organisation the journalist was from.

Earlier on Monday, Kettering Town chairman Imraan Ladak fired Mr Gascoigne after just 39 days in charge at the Nationwide Conference North side, over claims about his conduct.

Mr Gascoigne claimed he had been "stitched up" over the sacking.

He will be the next George Best sadly!

And that is the sad thing.

I remember Gazza before the World Cup in 1990 and he was awesome and did look he could go on to be the best in the World. Then he f*cked his knee up and became a bit of a joke after that. Occasional touches of brilliance expecially at Euro 96 but definitely a wasted carear!
