Welsh duo get Scandanavian draw

Rhyl and Carmarthen will both face Scandanavian opposition in the second qualifying round of the Uefa Cup.
A trip to Norway awaits Rhyl against Viking FK, conquerers of Northern Ireland side Portadown, with the away leg first up on 11 August.

Carmarthen Town's reward for their first-round win over Longford is a tie against Danish seeds FC Copenhagen.

The Danes must come to Wales for the first leg, as Carmarthen and Rhyl chase a place in the first round proper.

Former Blackburn boss Roy Hodgson is the manager of Viking, while he has also previously been in charge of Copenhagen.

The draw for the second qualifying round of the Uefa Cup took place in Nyon, Switzerland, on Friday.

The British and Irish teams were part of the Northern section of the draw, meaning they could not be paired with sides in the Southern-Mediterranean and Central-East sections.

The second leg matches will be played on 25 August.

Welsh clubs reject summer switch

Welsh Premier clubs have voted against a proposal to restructure the season to play games over the summer months.

Connah's Quay Nomads were the only club in favour of following the example of the Eircom League in Ireland at a league meeting in Caersws on Sunday.

Said Rhyl boss John Hulse: "It would give us nothing in benefits."

But the clubs have agreed to allow the Welsh Premier board to look into the possibility of having a two-week mid-season winter break.

Fools !

Must be better to play over the summer, although it would be a bit ;hot;
