dementor: She didn’t mind walking like this. She liked the security that her parents hands gave her as they held on tightly to her fist. She may be twelve, but she didn’t care. She loved holding their hands, knowing they were there. They were always going to be there. They didn’t speak, didn’t communicate… They simply walked, taking in everything about Diagon Alley. Her parents were mystified and their childlike manner about the whole thing made Katy smile happily. Finally she broke her hands away reluctantly and signed up to her parents about the candy shoppe up ahead. Everyone has a bit of a sweet tooth and she wanted her parents to try some of the amazing things wizards had in their store. When she was finished telling her dad she grabbed his hand and headed towards the store.
Katy hadn’t had any idea just how dangerous it was bringing muggles to Diagon Alley. Not that she’d have had any way of truly knowing. Who was going to tell her? She really had no friends to warn her that muggles weren’t exactly welcome in this world by some people. But if she had known, things probably would’ve been different. Her life would’ve been different… She would’ve never found her family surrounded by a group of cloaked people, only to see a green light and her mother fall to the ground lifeless. Thankfully good people were around and quickly defended them. But Katy still rushed over to her mother and fell beside her. She clung to her broken body and begged the heavens to wake her from this nightmare. She didn’t want to live this. She wanted to wake up… She had to wake up. Confusion was flowing through her father’s face and Katy knew she had to explain for him… He didn’t understand.
That was the hardest thing. Standing there in front of all those people… telling her dad that her mum wasn’t coming home with them.
personality: When Byron wrote that "Man's love is of man's life a thing apart; 'tis woman's whole existence," he forgot about Katy. She may think love is her whole existence, but she's too vitally absorbed in the world around her, not to mention in herself, for it to be the beginning and end of her life. She can get along without a man easier than any female you'll ever meet.
Of course, getting along without a man is not the same thing as getting along without romance. She'll always need that hero of her dreams to yearn for in her heart. He may be long ago and faraway-or hiding just out of sight and touch, somewhere in tomorrow's mists-but she'll think about him in an April rain. He'll haunt her when the first snow falls, when she hears a certain song or sees lightning flash. However, while she's yearning, if there's no male around in actual physical presence, she won't miss him terribly. Anything he could do, she can do better-she thinks.
Katy will open her own doors. Shell also put on her own coat, fight her own battles, pull out her own chair, hail her taxi and light her cigarette without any masculine help. Doing it herself is, to her, the fastest way to get it done. Naturally, this doesn't set too well on the vulnerable male ego. Katy is determined to take the lead, to be the first to move to action, and that includes the action of making the first advance in romance. Before that you're taking a chance. Be very careful about moving in on Katy. She wants to be the leader in the love affair. Better be sure you have her heart safely in your pocket before you try to grab her around the waist and kiss her goodnight. Other¬wise, she may give you a sharp right hook to the jaw and run like a frightened deer.
Don't be misled. The reason for her running isn't maid¬enly modesty. She's not afraid of your passionate intentions. Those she can handle. Her flight is based on the fear of getting tangled up with a worshiping slave or a lovestruck puppy dog, either one of whom would bore her to tears. Be casual, keep her guessing, and the chances are she’ll chase you into a comer instead. A man who resists her impact always intrigues her. She can't under¬stand why she isn't overwhelming him with her obvious charms. Then her ego will leave no stone unturned to prove she's desirable, even when she has no lasting interest in him.
Scariett O'Hara is the very epitome of Miss Katy. Like Scarlett, Katy will gather every available male for a hundred miles around to her feet, while her willful heart yearns for the one man she can't have for one reason or another. Like Scarlett, Katy can quickly adapt for survival if necessary, without whimpering. Both the O'Hara and Katy’s characters are tough enough to defy convention, face an advancing army, or even shoot a man through the head with icy calmness, if he threatens her loved ones.
Never was Scarlett more like Katy than when she was starving, alone and friendless, and without waiting for a man to come to the rescue, she clenched her fist toward heaven and shouted, "I'll survive this . . . and when I do, I'll never be hungry again ... If I have to lie, cheat, steal or kill-as God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again!" Much later, her emotions shattered, her beloved child dead and the one man she loved about to walk out of her life, this woman was still able to say, "I'll think of some way to get him back. There's never been a man I couldn't get, once I set my mind on him. . . . After all, tomorrow is another day."
Yes, Scarlett O'Hara creates a vivid image of Katy, with all the strength and ability to bounce back after tragedy; able to play the female role to the hilt, with fluttering lashes and a well-timed tear, but just as able to take over a man's job when the men aren't around. A careful study of Scarlett's character can give you an excellent understanding of what you're in for with Katy-and naturally, also the rewards you can look forward to after you've been brave enough to claim her. Her aggressive drive may be hard to take, but her shining optimism and faith in tomorrow can be mighty uplifting.
Katy is rather a pushover for flattery, if it has an honest base. Let her know you admire her, but don't be too flowery or sugary about it. Her loyalty in love is gigantic, as long as you keep the sentiment alive, for she is deeply sentimental. There's the typical contradic¬tion in her: she doesn't want to be obviously chased, yet she quickly loses interest if you're too detached. She doesn't want a completely domineering male, but neither will she warm up to a man who sits adoringly at her feet. Before love can bring her happiness, Katy must meet her eternal challenge-her strong desire to control the lover, conflicting with her secret wish to be controlled by him. Unbelievably idealistic, sometimes she searches in vain for that brave knight in shining armor, who will sweep her off her feet, conquer the world, hand it to her gently and yet never sacrifice his manhood. Since he exists only in fairy tales and the myths of King Arthur's court, Katy often walks alone, without a star to guide her. Her days are bright and full of excitement, her nights are sometimes dark and full of longing. Yet, when her defeated dreams become smoldering ashes-just as you think the flame is dying, Katy leaps up to build another fire.
She must be proud of you to love you. But don't be so important that you neglect to notice her talents and abili¬ties. Though she'll demand a lot from you, she'll give double measure in return. Katy can be generous to a fault with her time and sympathy, cheerfully sharing her possessions and money, but when it comes to love, she's downright stingy. "What's hers is hers" in the romance department, and it will take very little to set off a jealous explosion. Don't admire your favorite movie actress in her hearing, or pay too many compliments to her girl friends. The man with Katy as a wife is safer with a male secretary. If she's not first with you in every way, you'll soon wonder where all the intense passion and thrilling emotion went so fast. When Katy has been really hurt, she turns from fire to ice. Her fire bums hot and dies quickly. Her ice can be eternal. Memorize that, if you care deeply about her-and it's doubtful that she'll stand for you caring about her any other way. Katy plays for keeps.
She puts the loved one on a pedestal, expecting him to live up to an impossible image of perfection, stubbornly refusing to look at his clay feet, until they become too muddy for even her to miss. She's capable of being demanding, selfish, and making cutting remarks when you dampen her hopeful plans. Yet, she can also be gentle, devoted and cooperative when she's met halfway. This woman is capable of deep passion and mystical idealism, woven together in strange patterns. In any rela¬tionship she feels is real and forever after, there will be no holding back, no feminine wiles, coquettish tricks or silly games. Her love, like her speech and actions, is direct. There's something clean and fresh about the utter simplicity of her emotions, but even so, they often get her into waters way over her head. You may have to tame her a little, but she'll accept it with surprising docility if she really loves you.
There's practically nothing this woman won't tackle. If it's a challenge or just something she thinks she wants to brighten her life, she'll make some kind of a stab at it whether it's practical or not. Never worry that your Katy will succumb to the charms of a wolf. She's immune to wolves and playboys, and in far more danger of being seduced by an idealist with a cause, preferably a lost cause. But even with him, she'll assert her individuality frequently. It will never be completely conquered in her, though it can be subdued by the right man. She'll buy you gifts, loan you money, nurse you through illness, and help you get a job.
And she'll expect the same from you.
She'll deny it vehemently (she does almost everything vehemently), but when she's miserable, you should be miserable. When she's happy, you should be happy. To Katy, love is equal sharing. She'll expect to share your razor, your bank account, your friendships and your dreams. In return, you can share hers. Of course, her razor may be broken, her bank account a little overdrawn, her friendships slightly scattered and her dreams too large for you to swallow. But she's not selfish with them. Keeping a secret from her can drive her wild, and it's not a good idea to drive Katy wild. Don't ever embarrass her by your grammar, clothing or behavior in public. She won't em¬barrass you, at least not in these matters.
To injure her pride or dampen her enthusiasm will almost break her heart. Others will constantly be doing just that to her. The world resents a female who talks back to it, and who thinks she's smarter than everyone else. When she discovers she really doesn't run the universe after all, she'll come running into your arms in tears, her world all dark and dismal. Then you'll have a chance to see her as she really is, defenseless and vulnerable in the extreme, for all her outer confidence. She's not really Tug¬boat Annie. She'd just like to be. She admires strength and tries to imitate it. Idealism and optimistic faith in human nature is often dashed to bits by reality. Comfort her with tenderness at these times, and you'll probably never lose her. Always defend her against her enemies. She can never forgive you if you fail to fight for her or take her side. (But be prepared to make up with them when she does, which may be quickly.) At least she's lay about it. She'll also defend you. Katy will throw away fame or fortune defiantly right in the face of anyone who hurts a friend of hers. If she loves you, her indignation will have no bounds. This women is nothing if not loyal.
This woman can be unreasonably temperamental, and create some violent scenes. But her quickly aroused temper will splatter like summer hailstones and soon melt away. She'll never hold a grudge, seek revenge, indulge in self-pity or bitterness. After an emotional storm, her optimistic nature will return like the rainbow suddenly appear¬ing after a shower. Lots of people will tell you Katy is completely masculine, but don't you believe them. She's all woman underneath her flashing, forceful exterior, perhaps too much woman for the average man. But, of course, a knight in shining armor isn't an average man. Are there any lonely, courageous knights out there? This is the fair lady of your dreams, worth all the dragons you'll have to slay to win her.
Don't forget that she bruises easily, in spite of her bright, brave smile. (That's just her shield against hurt.) If you can turn the ram into a lamb, you'll have a woman who is honest and passionate, loyal and exciting-though she may be a little impulsive, bossy and independent. Well, you can't have everything, you know. Katy will help you find your lost illusions and she'll have a fierce faith in all your dreams. You don't have any? Borrow some of hers. She has plenty to spare. If you believe in her just half as much as she believes in you, you could make some miracles together.

history: Have you ever known someone who’s life was seemingly perfect in the beginning. They were happy. They had a family, a life, friends… And then the next moment it was blown all to shit. If you haven’t you’re about to meet someone who’s been there and is dealing with that…
Katy Marie Sullivan was born on April 17th in Dublin, Ireland to a very happy couple. Growing up her life was easy. The first thing she learned before attending any school, was how to speak sign language. Her father was born deaf and couldn’t read lips. So the only way she could speak to him was if she spoke in that language. After that she attended Preschool until she was 5 and then she enrolled into primary school at a school down the street from her home in Dublin. I could go on to describe the events that she went through for the next 11 years. But that may result in drowsiness. So I’ll pick up where things get exciting. Days before her eleventh birthday strange things had been happening around Katy. Her mother loved to garden, as did she, and one day while in the garden preparing for May’s full bloom Katy was singing and laughing with her mum. She was at a complete ease and suddenly all the flowers around her opened up into beautiful colours. It was pure magic and no one could explain. After that, the days leading up to her birthday, any plant around Katy burst into life when she was happy, and died immediately if she was upset.
When her eleventh birthday did actually roll around she received an owl. It was the strangest birthday present she had ever received. Not to mention the letter attached to its leg. It had to be one of her friends pulling her leg, especially when it read ‘Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.’ At least she thought it was a practical joke until a strange looking man appeared out of no where in the middle of her kitchen grinning brightly at her. He explained to her she had magic in her blood and she was welcome to attend Hogwarts to further her magical learnings. Katy was skeptical of course. She didn’t want to leave her friends and family behind. Her life would change drastically if she went to Hogwarts, this she knew, so at first she didn’t want to go. Once the man left telling her to send word when she made her decision, her family sat down and talked about it. It was her mother who finally convinced her to take this opportunity, her father didn’t understand but he said if it was what Katy wanted he agreed as well.
Leaving her mum and dad was hard. And adjusting to not having to speak with her hands was difficult but eventually Katy did. Everything was so new and strange to her she had a hard time accepting friendships on top of everything. She just became invisible and made her way through her first year at school like one of the ghosts. The summer between first and second began the turning point from happy to crappy. The wizarding world was not how Katy thought it to be. When she made the mistake of inviting both her parents to Diagon Alley to show them her new world they were attacked. Blatant muggles it wasn’t hard for Death Eaters to pick them out. Katy couldn’t do anything, couldn’t say anything, when the green light shot out and hit her mother. Her lifeless body fell on the ground and all hell broke loose. Katy could only grab her father and run with him. She ran, and ran, and ran.
After that Katy changed. She couldn’t leave her father; he wouldn’t be able to handle his own. He wouldn’t be able to go out, not without her so she tried to remove herself from Hogwarts so she could live full time with her dad. But the Headmistress wouldn’t take that. She helped her figure out a situation for her father so he could be properly cared for while she was away and that way she could continue her education. That year while she was at Hogwarts Katy sunk into a depression, she was tormented at every turn, and she couldn’t sleep for in her dreams even there was torture waiting for her. The drug on forever, as it seemed, and when term finally came to an end Katy had made a decision. She had barely been able to stand being away from her father. She wanted to be closer to him; she needed to be closer to him… And there was only one way she’d find that sort of comfort.
Years after the event people said there was an accident that caused her to lose her hearing. But other people said she went crazy and broke her own eardrums. Nobody really knew the answer because like most deaf people Katy stopped talking because she was unable to. When Katy contacted the Headmistress about her condition she expected to find out that she couldn’t come back. But she allowed her to return offering to teach her how to do wandless magic so she could continue to practice her magic. It seemed as though she’d have no other option so she returned to school, now more of a freak then ever. If she hadn’t made any friends at this point she wasn’t ever going to. She couldn’t speak, couldn’t hear… She could read lips, but no one knew to speak slowly around her. So when she stared blankly at them they just glared at her and walked away. Though it wasn’t long until word got out and the teasing picked up. What a witch she was turning out to be.
Friends weren’t something Katy needed. She preferred being alone, no one asked her questions, no one expected anything from her, and she had no reason to bring people home to see her dad was just like her. So just like that years past into silence and Katy remained as she was, quiet and alone. As much as she reveled in it, she hated it at the same time. But when she was home she was contented. She had her dad wit her. One day during the summer between her fifth and sixth year her and her dad went shopping together in Dublin. They were spending the day vintage shopping and they stopped to get something to eat at a small café. As they were finishing up Katy went to wash her hands promising to meet him across the street at the bookstore. What she didn’t figure was that he’d j-walk as opposed to crossing at the lights. The police officer told her that he was killed on impact and that he wouldn’t have felt anything. As if that was any comfort.
He couldn’t hear the truck. The truck driver didn’t know. No matter how hard he pressed on that horn, Richard would’ve never heard him. If only Katy had been there. If only she had never left him alone. He’d still be here today. She could’ve stopped all this… Richard Sullivan’s death took a huge toll on poor Katy. She was taken to a foster house where she spent a few months until she was picked up by the Headmistress of Hogwarts. Katy was sure at this point she hated her for all the trouble she caused. But she never mentioned a word of it as she found a nice wizarding family to take her in until she was seventeen. They were nice, but they didn’t know sign language so they couldn’t communicate with her. They spoke slowly, but for the most part it was quick so she couldn’t actually catch what they were saying.
When she turned seventeen last spring, she intended on moving out. But she knew she had no options yet. She was eligible in the muggle world to collect her inheritance from the bank from both her parents. So she stuck it through with her foster family for a bit long. She had one more year left at Hogwarts and then maybe she could get a job at the Ministry or something… Maybe they’d take her. But she’d have to ‘miraculously’ recover and hear again. She wasn’t sure if she was ready to let her voice within come out. At least she wasn’t until he came along. She hadn’t intended for him to hear her sing. She was always so cautious whenever she did. But singing was the only way she could remember the happiness… remember the garden. It was the only time she let her voice flow. And he wasn’t supposed to have heard.
