...Another Day Goes By Without You...
What can be more fun than a day in the life of Asher Goldstein? Anybody? No one? NOTHING!! On most days anyways and sadly for the curly haired brunette today isn't one of them. You would think he had something amazing planned for his one totally free Friday evening out of the whole year...but no. He had nothing to do. His day had been completely and utterly a drag so far. Boredom had set in early; his attention span had never been very long so it wasn't too hard for it to take hold of him. Sighing hopelessly, he made his way through the fourth floor, sliding past and around various first years. Some of them looked rather lost, then again most of them always were.
Asher knew how that was. During his first year he was always in trouble for his tardiness because he misplaced himself in the hallways. He'd been a scrawny little guy then, not to mention one of his grades loudest and talkative children. His hyperness and attention span made him one of the easiest targets to confuse. Peeves had a ball with him, until he began to realize Asher enjoyed it just as much as he did. He was a kid with a sense of humor and he knew how to laugh at himself, though if the poltergeist had been picking on a friend, it would have been a different story.
His black robes were draped carelessly over his left shoulder, the material dragging along the stone corridor floor lightly collecting dirt and God knows what else. Ash could care less though. He'd never been fond of clothes in general especially not the horrid black robes the school forced them to wear. He obeyed the rules and wore them during classes but any other time he was dressed casually if at all. In the common room the perfects were always on him about his clothing. No, he didn't run about naked, as much as he'd like to, but he did go about half naked a lot of times. Boxers were the only garments he wore in the dorms most of the time and when he could get away with it in the common room. It wasn't like he looked awful without a shirt and pants; on the contrary, Asher was a very defined lad.
...Another Day I Spend Alone Waiting...
He wasn't so muscular it was disgusting, but his chest and abs were solid and ripped, his arms as well and his legs strong and defined. He had one of those bodies that was lean and athletic, muscular but not intensely so. Basically he was in the middle and girls loved that. Often times you couldn't tell this though. Unless you saw him in the common room, jogging shirtless around the grounds in the morning, or taking a dip in the lake you'd have no clue due to his choice of clothing. Asher wasn't fond of clothes, that's already been mentioned, but he absolutely despises tight clothing. Loose and baggy's the only way to go for him, which explained his dress this wonderful, uneventful Friday evening. A gray muggle sweatshirt covered his upper torso while a pair of baggy blue jean hung low on his slim waist, held up only by a belt. Ok, he had a thing for muggle clothing. Shoot him why don't ya.
Passing a few more people, a fourth year Slytherin pushed through the crowd. Blonde hair hung in his eyes; his mane bouncing a little as he walked or rather stomped through, pushing a first year into the wall. Seeing this disgusted Asher, his grayish blue eyes jerking to follow the Slytherin. "Watch where you're going, jerk!" he called, stopping momentarily, to help the first year gather his belongings that had spilled into the floor. Ash could hear some other Slytherins snickering, but he ignored them, flashing the younger boy a warm smile before sending him on his way. The brunette took a step backward, trying to file back into the flood of people, only to collide with another, sending them both stumbling.
"Maybe I should listen to my own advice..." he murmured, a soft chuckle rolling off his lips as he regained balance and turned to apologize to whomever he'd bumped into. "Terribly sorry about that," Before glancing at the person's face, Ash crouched down, gathering a roll of parchment or two that the other had dropped.
...Those Days Are Gone Forever...

Fridays were by far one of Elliott's favourite days. It was a fact that most people enjoyed Fridays, but honestly, the Hufflepuff simply adored them. There was so much potential in a Friday night, that you could almost feel it buzzing in the hallway. Everyone made plans, and the energy that came off the students in the castle was full of nervous excitement. She could tell even the professors enjoyed the thought of a weekend, as short as it may be. Although she herself had no exciting plans, it was enough to listen to other people to start to build up the excitement. Tonight she'd probably spend goofing off in the common room with her house mates, something that really happened on just about every other night of the week as well. A small giggle bubbled from her throat as she thought about the night before. A small tussle might have occurred, centered primarily around her and her best friend Jenna. There may have been pillows involved and a few strays may have hit a few innocent bystanders.
It was a rather boring night really, even with the pillow fight. But it had been made slightly better when Asher Goldstein ended up downstairs in nothing but his boxers. After so many years, you'd think a girl would get used to it, but alas. The boy was simply to delightful to not picture, causing a giddy grin to spring unwanted to her lips. She really had to stop thinking about him, especially considered how she nearly had to wipe the drool from Jenna's mouth after the encounter. Although Elliott wasn't stupid, she could've been a complete moron and seen the look Jenna gave Ash. The feeling in her gut was slightly unexpected, and as she thought about it, it was that raging emotion that had caused her to hit her blonde friend in the face with a pillow in the first place. When she realised the way the two other Hufflepuffs looked at each other, she had vowed not to be bothered by it. In fact, she was determined to not let it bother her in the least.
So why had the shaggy haired boy been wandering through her thoughts all day.
It was obvious that she needed to get her mind focused on something else, so she had decided that as soon as the last class of the day was over, she'd head down to the pitch and fly around a bit. She brought a change of clothes with her throughout the day, knowing that a uniform, especially one consisting of a skirt, was not proper flying attire. Plus, it really wasn't comfortable. Considering how battered her broom was from the years of flying, it was prone to give her splinters, painful things she wanted no where near her thighs.
Once down at the pitch, she had changed into a relaxed, but still slim, pair of blue jeans, a pink t-shirt and a bright aqua zipped up hoody. Her hair was still short, so she put a matching head band in it, pushing her fringe from her face and keeping the rest of it of hitting her in her eyes and whipping across her cheeks. She hadn't spent long outside, knowing that she had a date with the library for most of the evening, but the time she spent in the air was refreshing. It was a fail safe, something that always managed to clear her thoughts, even if only briefly. By the time she was working her way into the castle, she was sure that thoughts of Asher Goldstein were completely out of her mind.
Life decided that it wasn't time yet to give up on that train of thought. She watched in the crowded corridor as people pushed and shoved to get around, a few older Slytherins especially not caring who got in their way. After a young looking boy was pushed aside, Ash jumped to the rescue like a proper knight in shining armour. Elliott adjusted the strap of her bag on her shoulder and covered her smile with her slim hand. Her cheeks were red and glowing already from the time spent in the wind, but she was sure they would be brighter than before. The Slytherins were snickering and a glance toward them revealed why. One had his wand pointed directly at Asher's back. Without thinking, Elliott pulled out her own wand and pointed it at the boy. One of his friends noticed before it as too late and pulled the Slytherin out of the hallway. Elliott was beaming, she was so proud of herself. Perhaps she had more of a reputation as a badass than she thought. Of course, it also could've been that she'd hit one of them so hard with a bludger once it sent him to the hospital wing. Either way, she had thwarted the enemy, so she was nothing short of proud as she turned back toward the direction of the library.
She wasn't paying attention, of course, still watching for sudden reemergence of the group from before. Without noticing, she plowed directly into someone. Her bag fell from her shoulder, and miscellaneous bits and bats flew about the hallway. Luckily the crowd had slimmed to a trickle, so it wasn't likely that she'd end up loosing anything important to the pounding hoard.
Maybe I should listen to my own advice...Terribly sorry about that."
The voice was clearly recognizable, and without thinking she ruffled his hair slightly on her way down to the ground to help collect her things. "Silly Ash," she scolded playfully, sending her brilliant smile in his direction as she blindly groped at a few quills rolling around on the stone floor. She began cramming them blindly in her already full messenger bag. It probably looked as though she was planning a long weekend away, considering how much stuff was crammed in, and that was even after she expanded it a little bit to make it extra roomy.
"I wasn't watching either," she said, finally casting her brown eyes away from the boy and toward a bottle of ink, thankfully unbroken. "I was trying to keep an eye on those jack asses. Did you know they almost hexed you while you were picking up that kid's stuff?" Her face took on a look of annoyance, only made stronger by her wind pinkened cheeks. "Cowards."

Asher couldn’t quite understand how people could be so horrible to one another. Picking and tormenting those younger than you, picking fights with people over nothing at all. It was senseless. Defending yourself was fine and dandy, the brunette was all for protecting yourself but he would only succumb to physical violence if there was no possible way to settle things with words. It angered him to see how careless those few Slytherin boys had been, but he wasn’t going to chase them down and beat them down or hex them. No, he was above that, besides the kid they had so rudely knocked out of the way needed a hand. He was doing a good deed by helping out the little blonde boy regain his balance and gather his things, but it felt as natural as breathing to Ash.
Not many people in the world seemed to take notice of each other anymore. It was all about me, me, me to so much of his generation and even older ones. Not to say there weren’t still caring people out there, oh he knew there were, but it was rare to come across truly kind and selfless people now a days. Though Asher never thought about it much, or even admitted it, he was one of those few thanks to his father’s and his brother’s guidance. Anthony Goldstein, his father, had always been a gentleman. Even during his Hogwarts years he was a sweet and caring guy to anyone he met and he’d easily passed those traits to both Malcolm and Asher. He made sure to teach them everything he could and everything they needed to know, even without their mother present. Neither of the two remembered her very well but it never was a huge deal. They had Anthony and that was all they needed…right? There were a few times that the young hufflepuff grew curious about her though when he asked his father he seemed pained to speak of her, so he stopped asking about her and eventually she faded from his mind. It sounds awful to just forget your mother…but he was young when she left and she obviously wanted nothing to do with them. Why worry about her not being around then? The only thing he really knows about her is her name. Daphne. A pretty name in his opinion.
Despite her presence in their life, or rather lack of, both Malcolm and Asher turned out to be quite the sweet hearts. Ash had always been the more passionate and expressive of the two, but everyone knew how broody and quiet Mal could get. His mind was always overloading with thoughts so jumbled it was much harder for him to express himself. Or at least that’s how the youngest Goldstein took it. Either way Ash couldn’t help but naturally take notice of the fourth year slytherins’ actions and do something about it. As he helped the blonde kid collect his dropped items, the curly haired boy had no knowledge of the group of fourth years planning to hex him nor the short haired girl who managed to spook them into running off.
Fate pointed him in the right direction however as his figure stumbled backward and into hers. Asher heard a few more thuds and clanks as her stuff hit the ground, the boy sort of scolded himself. Unlike the boys before him, his collision had been merely accidental so he hadn’t much to worry about, he hoped. Just help pick up their things and apologize, he told himself calmly as he crouched down and began to cradle some of her things in his arm. Hearing the female’s voice, a large grin immediately curled upon his lips, a chill running down his spine as he felt his hair being ruffled. Oh how he loved having his hair played with and if anyone knew that, it was Elliott. It was a friendly gesture, not intimate as they had once shared, but it still resulted in the same chill and relaxation of his muscles following. His hair happened to be a weak spot, not the weakest mind you, but one. His pale blue eyes glanced up and sure enough Elliott Abercrombie was situated beside him, grabbing up items and stuffing them in her bag. She was grinning back at him happily, obviously not upset about bumping into him.
"Going away on vacation?" he chuckled, taking note of how fully her bag was. Evidently she was preparing for something. She’s probably off to do that Potions essay. Ugh, I should be working on that…meh. I’ll do it later, Asher reasoned with himself before grabbing a book of hers and passing it her direction. "They were going to hex me??" The boy quirked a eyebrow at the girl seeing her annoyance. It always felt good to have friends that cared. Ash could easily say it was one of the best feelings in the world. Shoving her shoulder gently, Ash’s signature silent thank you for his pals, the boy resisted giving her a peck on the cheek. He was usually very relaxed with affection, a kiss on the cheek was nothing, but considering the unspoken awkwardness between them lately, he decided against it. Seeing in the halls together or chattering in the common room you’d think no different of them. They were still buddies and still acted as goofy around each other as they always had, it was the little things no one noticed to begin with that had changed for the awkward. Neither of them acknowledged them though, which was extremely hard for Asher considering he had a hard time controlling his emotions every now and again. "You’re right cowards…fourth years these days. I don’t understand what got shoved up their arse to make them think they rule the school all of a sudden. Have you noticed almost all of them are full of themselves this year? But anyways, thanks. I owe you one," After handing her some more of her things, he stood and offered her a hand up as well.

It boggled Eli's mind how people could resort to such useless methods of entertaining themselves as picking on weaker individuals. She always supposed it had something to do with Darwinism, something like survival of the fittest. Problem with that theory, at least as Elliott saw it, was that the people who picked on the "weaker" really had no reason to be breeding in the first place. If she had the option, she personally castrate the majority of the Slytherin boys dormitory. Then the could all be eunuch and perhaps form a quartet. Bending closer to Asher, she found herself inhaling his soft, fresh scent. He would make a terrible eunuch. The Goldstein boys were too good to keep their genes to themselves. In fact, if she had it her way, she'd steal some of those genes all on her own.
Elliott had to keep reminding herself that Jenna had a thing for him. As much as she hated it, that made the shaggy haired boy off limits. Something was twisting in her guts just thinking about it. She'd had him before and given him up, so it should be okay that Jenna had a thing. Elliott needed to move on, she had planned on it for awhile, but there was something irksome and lurking inside her that kept her from really doing that. She had to get over it. She had to fucking move on.
Her hand brushed his as they piled up her things strewn across the floor. It sent chills up her spine and caused goosebumps to burst across her skin.
"Going away on vacation? They were going to hex me??"
"No and yes," she said looking toward the boy with a smile. "I'll be stuck in the library for hours and I needed snacks and miscellaneous objects to entertain me." Looking back toward the way the Slytherin's exited, she made sure they were definitely gone. "Obviously they didn't want to have me as an enemy. I would've kicked their ass and they knew it." Her nose wrinkled as she smirked toward Ash.
"You’re right cowards…fourth years these days. I don’t understand what got shoved up their arse to make them think they rule the school all of a sudden. Have you noticed almost all of them are full of themselves this year? But anyways, thanks. I owe you one,"
Eli shrugged as she allowed Asher to pull her to her feet. "Who knows. Honestly. I sure don't." She pulled the bag over her shoulder, making sure to snap it tightly to keep the overflowing objects from falling to the floor once more. "And as for that favour," she added slyly, "I'll get back to you on how you can pay me back." With a wink she turned back toward the library, hoping Asher was walking in the same direction, or would at least pretend to for her sake.

Asher felt his hand brush Elliot’s as he went to pick up her stuff and his stomach did a small flip. He’d be lying if he said he’d felt nothing after his break up with her. He’d never admit still having feelings for her, but he would never truly deny it either. Why they had split was clear to him, neither of them thought it would last. In Ash’s mind it was better to end it then on good terms than later on bad. It was a good idea at the time, but on some occasions…times like these…made him think otherwise. He smiled warmly at her, not hinting at the sudden change in thinking, trying his best to keep his friendly happy demeanor.
He nodded casually as she informed him about her schoolwork and the library. He knew he needed to be doing school work as well, but he highly doubted it’d ever get done. It wasn’t that Asher just didn’t care, he did sometimes, he just got…distracted. Yes, distracted was a good word to use. "I know how that is…ok…not really," he chuckled not recalling a time he spent hulled up in the library. He smirked as he too looked in the direction the slytherins had gone. They were long gone. "I bet that hurt their ego," Ash laughed a little, knowing for a fact it did. For one, she was a girl and two she was a hufflepuff girl. It was shameful to them but he knew that most Slytherins were all show. Their barks were worse than their bite, hell some of them’s bite and bark sucked.
The boy couldn’t help grinning as Elliot winked, her body taking on that oh so familiar flirty look. She winked at him and he felt something tug at his heart strings. Why exactly did he let her go? It was too late now, besides…he was beginning to feel different around Jenna too. She was exciting, always unpredictable, much like him, but there was something else about her that just…he couldn’t even find words to describe how he was feeling about her. One thing he knew for sure is Elliot couldn’t know.
Why? Because you don’t get ‘feelings’ for your ex’s best friend. It was unwritten law and a common courtesy not to say anything. "Hey! Just leave me here, why don’t you!" he called after her. Ash had spaced out as she started walking toward the library but he quickly caught up, ruffling his locks once more. "Soo, what are you studying for? Anything that can help me too? Err…I mean I can help you…haha,"
elliott abercrombie - September 17, 2007 01:10 AM (GMT)
Elliott had to take a slow deep breath to steady herself. This was ridiculous, wasn't it? This was Asher, her friend Ash. Yes they had dated, but it was like a million years ago and they had both ended it, right? Elliott knew when she ended it she'd regret it, but at the time it seemed even more dangerous to keep it going. She liked him too much for her own good, and she was too young to be thinking that way. He agreed, didn't he? Well, he can just move on to Jenna for all I care, she thought, a little more bitterly than she intended. No, it would all be fine. Elliott decided then and there that this was simply a reaction to Jenna's revelation. It was simply jealousy that he would force herself to get over simply so her friends could be happy.
"I know how that is…ok…not really. I bet that hurt their ego."
Grinning wickedly, Elliott replied, "It'll hurt their ego even more when I break their nose with a bludger during the next quidditch match." She knew Ash would be with her on that, after all he was the other beater on the team. "I figure that will be proper enough payback, and it's not as if we can get detention for playing our position well." She shrugged and smiled, her whole expression oozing a malignant mischievousness that was sure to not bode well for the Slytherin pack.
"Hey! Just leave me here, why don’t you!"
Elliott stopped in her tracks and turned toward him, waiting for him to catch up to her. She hadn't realised just how far behind he had gotten, and she wondered vaguely what had held him up. "I thought you'd be following," she responded as he caught up with her quickly, "I didn't know you were going to take your sweet ass time back there."
"Soo, what are you studying for? Anything that can help me too? Err…I mean I can help you…haha,"
A light, pleasant laugh escaped Elliott's lips as she began walking toward the library once more, this time with Asher by her side. "Potions, my dear Ash. So I suppose you could use the help as much as I could." Looking over at him, she considered the question she was about to ask before simply asking, "Care to join me? Maybe get a bit of actual homework done?" As a last attempt to get Asher to join her, she added, "I do have snacks, remember."
