Description: Elise is taller than most women and that is one of the first things most people notice about her. Her good posture just makes her seem taller and regal; her head is usually held high and her shoulders straight.
Elise has long, straight brown-red hair that falls most of the way down her back. She usually wears it in a neat bun or ponytail, all business. Only around close friends will she let her hair hang loose around her shoulders.
Elise wears conservative jewelry, usually only diamond studs in her ears and a simple necklace with a small pendant, that was a gift from her late husband. She usually wears pressed white dress shirts, dark colored slacks and a jacket, and lives in comfortable and practical shoes.
PersonalityLikes: Intelligent conversation, people that can get things done, an interesting story, Antony Piers, studying storylines and character archetypes, Biblical stories, quiet time, honesty
Dislikes: time-wasters, purposeful ignorance, deception, people that don’t look her in the eye when speaking
Personality: Elise seems to many to be tall, formidable, the one who will march into a room and break up any fun to be had. On the outside she seems strict, controlling, sometimes a little too stern and unforgiving. She makes demands and issues commands, she pushes people but in truth, she is drawing good out of them that they don’t even realize they have. She likes to be told the blunt, honest truth, even when it hurts and she will gladly give the same in return.
She is a fast learner but will take her time when something is important, studying it from every angle. She reads and rereads things if she thinks she might have missed something and doesn’t believe in going into any battle unprepared. She seems to always win arguments because of this.
Elise has a very characteristic British sense of humor, mostly black and very ironic. She’s had her share of sadness and loss in her life and chooses to look at it from an objective point of view as much as possible. If she can laugh at herself, she can laugh at anything.
Elise is the kind of person who can keep a secret. She has a whole host of secrets hiding in her soul and there they will always remain. Promises are something she believes in as much as honesty.
ExtrasHistory: Elise married her husband when she was young and found in him exactly what she needed, someone honest, loving, kind and intelligent. They spent nearly four years as partners, spouses, lovers and supporters, always sharpening the other, traveling, pushing, encouraging. Following a miscarriage, the young couple carved out time to get away from everything for a few weeks but their trip ended in tragedy. A mix-up in Elise’s husband’s medication left him dead from an allergic reaction. Elise outwardly kept herself together, moved on smoothly and continued her life, but inwardly it took her a long time to heal from the accident. She swore off medication the same as she swore off love and a range of emotions, and stepped fully into her eventual position as Dean of Nebula University of Higher Learning.
Her early friendship with Antony Piers survived the years, swinging back and forth from respect to deep friendship to camaraderie and back. Elise is fond of Antony, fonder than she sometimes lets on to anyone, and does what she can to help him both in his work and in his personal life.
Sample Post: Elise could have groaned out loud as she listened to one of the students. She’d let him speak a little longer, but it wouldn’t be long before she would have to interrupt him. This one wasn’t learning anything. Sometimes she really missed the days when people like Danae Walker were at NUoHL, days when it seemed like knowledge and wisdom were triumphing over the darkness.
“No, no,” she said finally, “Mr. Coffer, I asked you to come see me because of this very thing. You’re listening to part of what you’re being taught but then injecting a generous amount of your own ideas in as well. I encourage my students to adapt and think for themselves but I’m afraid you haven’t yet earned that right. I’d like you to start paying more attention to your mentors and teachers or you may find yourself looking for a new school. Thank you.” She dismissed him before he could argue, and more for his sake than hers. He would never win.
Elise put her fingers against her temples for a few seconds, closing her eyes. She felt a headache coming on; she’d have to grin and bear it, keep walking, head up, just like always. There was so much to do and she’d been left alone on this earth just so she could do it.
First secret line? Lying next to you, in silent lucidity...
And the last rule?Master of illusion, can you realize...
