When Peter Petrelli caused the decimation of .07% of the world's population on November 8th, 2006 it had a bigger impact than he expected. His own brother, Nathan Petrelli, the President of the United States, exposed what his brother for what he was: a mutant, an evolved human, a genetic fluke. Humankind was thrown for a loop: these things destroyed an entire city. Panic struck. People were afraid for their lives. A so-called 'witch hunt' began, tracking down these people.

Evolved humans were also panicking, not because they were afraid of destroying cities, but because people were after them. Some decided to try and blend into society and hope nobody noticed the fact that they could regrow limbs, turn invisible, or read the minds of other people. Others decided to take a more drastic approach. Those with offensive powers: the super-strong, super-quick, telekinetic few decided to fight back. Brawls were happening in the streets because somebody was accused of being one of them.

All the while, Nathan Petrelli sat back, watching it all. He hadn't expected his words to cause such a ruckus, the lives of innocence being claimed. He had been trying to help. The first thing he did was set up protection laws to help evolved humans, but the law enforcement didn't uphold them. He learned that the hard way, when he read a headline saying: 'ODESSA GIRL FOUND DEAD / EVOLVED HUMAN MURDERED'. Reading further, he found that it was his daughter who had broken a bone in gym class and it healed with everybody watching her.

Now, he couldn't just watch. He had to take action.

Petrelli created a group of evolved humans known as 'The Assembly' to help out those being hunted down by organizations trying to rid the world of the mutant plague. The Assembly was made up of twenty individuals who preferred to remain in anonymity, each one capable of a power to help mankind. But they did not remain anonymous for long.

Using their 'elaborate' Walker Tracking System, a group simply known as 'The Company' began thwarting what the Assembly was trying to do. One by one, members disappeared and Petrelli called back his men, waiting...

Lines have been drawn: are you supporting the defunct Assembly, fighting the good fight, but without a leader or a cause, the ever-powerful Company, trying to get rid of 'the threats to society', or are you just a human, evolved or not, praying you, your family, and your friends don't get called out as a mutant. And if you are an evolved human, don't worry: it's not your fault, it's just natural selection. Blame Darwin.
