They say that there's more than corn in Indiana. The punch line of that joke is there's soybeans as well. What they fail to mention is the small town of River Pointe, Indiana. This small town is well known throughout the country for one thing: the prestigious boarding school that the small town houses. From the road, this school looks like a castle. Small children in River Pointe believe it is. But those inside, they know that its not a castle. Its a school, just like any other school in America.
That school is River Pointe Academy. Sure, on the outside the main building resembles a castle. Inside it looks like any other school: books, classrooms, students, teachers, the whole nine yards. Behind the castle are a few smaller buildings that hold various classes and the administration offices. Then there are the dormitories, staying in the shadow of the trees. But from the road, all you can see is the magic of the castle like main building. The regal building is nothing compared to the actual school however.
This school is listed as one of the top ten schools in America and is less regimented than the other boarding school in Indiana, a school known as Culver. But prestige does have a cost. The average student pays around ten thousand dollars a year for their child to attend, with a few on scholarship for academics. Its the same as paying for a college education, and the structure of the school is actually much like college. Students choose their own courses, the days they take them, and can have breaks running over an hour between courses. The administration believes that this teaches the students scheduling skills they'll need in college. Maybe this school isn't like others when it comes to the actual school part.
They say the relationships you make at River Pointe Academy will last forever. But forging those relationships can be hard, a fact they forgot to place in the advertisement. Living with your classmates has one of two effects on your relations with them. Either things grow tense and you discover you hate the people you're around, or things go smoothly and you have the kind of friend many dream of. For most students, they experience both of these. Another thing they experience is a lot of drama, as in every high school. However, the drama here tends to run deeper. At this school, you can't go and whine to your mommy at the end of the day. You have to learn to deal with the drama yourself. Sometimes this does result in fights, but others it results in stronger friendships than ever forged before.
While River Pointe, Indiana is a small town, its only twenty minutes away from the largest city in Indiana: Indianapolis. Students find themselves frequenting the activities in both cities fairly often. Every weekend, there are buses running two and from the school to Indianapolis for students without cars. If you choose to go outside of that schedule, the taxi companies in River Pointe give discounted fares to River Pointe Academy students. With two towns at your disposal, you're sure to find some kind of fun every weekend.
Most get four years at River Pointe, though some come in later in their high school careers. No matter how long you get here, make the best of it. Because too soon you'll leave the confines of the school and be out in the real world.
