Title: -TABLE- for -TWO-
Description: Raelin!

Danae Walker - September 10, 2007 03:28 AM (GMT)
After meeting Raelin at her apartment after work, Danae headed into town with her. It seemed strange, to say "into town", when honestly, MSI seemed to be the center for it all now. Just the same, you had to pass the famous Nebula Street where MSI was located, just to get into the outskirts of town.

Heading down the sidewalk, she glanced at Raelin and smiled, hoping that the afternoon off had proved beneficial. Danae hated to see Raelin so exhausted, but it seemed to be happening more and more.

Like she always did, Danae linked her arm through Raelin's and smiled again, broadly, hoping it would prove contagious so that Raelin could do the same. This was supposed to be a night of leisure, after all.

"So...How was the afternoon off?" Danae asked.

Raelin Lorcan - September 10, 2007 03:35 AM (GMT)
Raelin grinned and shook her head. "Better, got a little sleep and took a nice hot shower while listening to my boy Louis Armstrong." she smiled. She decided not to tell Danae that she had spent a good hour worrying a business card for a prestigious male escort service in her hand when she first got home. She'd had the card forever, Marcus had given it to her one day and told her to use it. (She'd been extremely pissy that week), but Raelin, who had resolved to throw the card away, had kept it and then resolved to call one day and see that all the hype was about.

Sighing she ruffled her hair and looked down at Danae. "Greek food, it's hard to think that we've lost so much else but not Greek food...and cute waiters of Greek Food," she teased her friend as they turned another corner. "How was work?"

Danae Walker - September 10, 2007 04:07 AM (GMT)
"Better, got a little sleep and took a nice hot shower while listening to my boy Louis Armstrong."

Louis Armstrong...Danae shook her head and smiled up at Raelin. Her and her old records..."You needed sleep...You don't have that 'death warmed over' look now," she teased and beamed innocently at her friend.

"Greek food, it's hard to think that we've lost so much else but not Greek food...and cute waiters of Greek Food,"

Wiggling her brows, Danae nodded quickly, enthusiastically. Those waiters at the Greek restaurant were something else, and while Danae secretly pined over a certain immortal investigator, she had to admit tha taking one of those home wouldn't be so bad. "Well...Good things are hard to find...They had to leave one good thing in this godforsaken world, or that adage would just be a lie."

Alright, so it was ridiculous logic, but after a day of folklore and coordinates and training other resourcers, Danae had a right.

"How was work?"

Just a shrug. It was work, and as much as she loved it, today had proven to be one of the most boring in a long while. "Alright, I guess...I talked to Marcus for a while since you were gone," Danae commented offhandedly.

Raelin Lorcan - September 10, 2007 04:21 AM (GMT)
"I wish you two would just shag each other already," Raelin rolled her eyes as she opened the door to the resturant and shoved Danae inside. After they were seated and drinks were ordered she grinned at her dear friend like the cheshire cat. "It would make my life sooo much easier if you did, that way I could keep track of you both at the same time!" she added brightly.

"Hm..so what should we order today?" she asked as she looked at the menu.

Danae Walker - September 10, 2007 04:30 AM (GMT)
"I wish you two would just shag each other already. It would make my life sooo much easier if you did, that way I could keep track of you both at the same time!"

Danae gasped, both at the statement, and then again at being shoved inside. Once they were seated, she frowned at Raelin, stammering some sort of reply. "I said I talked to him...Not pinned him to the filing cabinet," she muttered, looking down.

No matter how bold Danae was at MSI, or how stern and blunt she could be with the rookie resourcers, Marcus Trellan never failed to silence her, make her stutter. She had grown up in MSI, and thusly, grown up around Marcus. For a while, it had been merely some sort of innocent affection, but as the years tacked on to Danae, she noticed far more about Marcus...And refused to mention a word to him about it.

Picking up a menu, Danae looked it over, then shrugged. "I don't know...We've eaten everything on this menu. What do you say we just club the waiter, take him home with us, then order takeout?"

Raelin Lorcan - September 10, 2007 04:36 AM (GMT)
Raelin nodded. "Good idea...I'll distract him, you can club him!" she grinned as she took a drink of her wine that had just arrived. "Let's just go for the spinach thing and the feta thing...and that thing!" she pointed to Danae's menu (she had absolutly no talent for pronouncing forgien words). "Well?" she looked up at her friend and blinked her eyes in a cute puppy way.

"I'll pay!" she offered. "That way you can pay the waiter when we're done with him!" she added slyly.

Danae Walker - September 10, 2007 04:44 AM (GMT)
Danae laughed, shaking her head and Raelin's antics. At least they were off of that Marcus topic and Danae didn't have to worry about fighting back another blush.

"Alright, alright...We'll order this thing and this thing and that thing....And then I'll pay later for the things we do to that waiter."

As the aforementioned waiter walked over to take their order, Danae glanced over him, then winked at Raelin, the signal for he'll do nicely. She proceeded to order for the both of them.

When finished, she leaned back in her seat to catch a view of the waiter walking away, then straightened her posture and grinned innocently at Raelin before taking a sip of her wine.

"So...."

Raelin Lorcan - September 10, 2007 04:50 AM (GMT)
"I saw Drake in the office the other day..." Raelin said slowly. Now that they were away from the office she felt comfortable enough to say it. The misery in her face was evident as she sat there staring blankly at her wine.

"I told him I was happy that he and Alika got together...I meant it...a little..." she admited. "So I've also decided to get a cat, so you need to help me pick on out later this week or something..." she said with a wry grin.

Danae Walker - September 10, 2007 04:56 AM (GMT)
Drake...Drake Morpheus. All of that still puzzled the hell out of Danae. One day, he's the enemy and the next day, she's being introduced to the leader of the DreamWalkers and their new ally.

"I told him I was happy that he and Alika got together...I meant it...a little..."

Danae reached over and patted Raelin's hand, knowing all too well the hell she had been through, watching those two act so casually around each other, and even within MSI walls. "That's far better than I would have done," Danae said in an attempt to help Raelin feel better about the whole thing.

Danae understood the circumstances and the reason why it couldn't be, but that still didn't make it fair. Right, right, nothing was fair.

"So I've also decided to get a cat, so you need to help me pick on out later this week or something..."

"A cat?" she questioned, eyebrow raised. "You're getting a cat?" And here she had thought all that nonsense about a pet had been a joke.

Raelin Lorcan - September 10, 2007 05:19 AM (GMT)
"You're getting a cat?"

"Yeah...I've decided that I can't come home to an empty house anymore, it's so clean and imaculate all the time...it pisses me off, but then I make it dirty so it lookes like someone else lives there but then I get pissed at the mess. For awhile I think I'd like to come home to a clean house but see a dent in the bed where the cat was sleeping, just so I know that I'm not alone..." she sighed. "Drake suggested a cat actually I was leaning more towards a plant...but...plants don't really care if you feed them or not.."

She drained the rest of her wine and raised a slender finger for another glass. "Let's talk about something less depressing than my lack of a love life right now. Find any good books recently?" she asked.

Danae Walker - September 11, 2007 04:49 PM (GMT)
Danae was more than happy to stray from the topic of anything associated with Drake. Though she liked him well enough, and had often times shared many conversations with him over the truth behind the myths that she so closely studied, there was something about the DreamWalker that did anything but put her at ease. Perhaps it was because she knew all the details of his kind, and that he could see into her heart and mind without so much as trying. Maybe it was the omnipresence that he possessed, or maybe, it was simply that the old tales of his darkness lingered in her mind, even when she had doubted them all along.

"Let's talk about something less depressing than my lack of a love life right now. Find any good books recently?"

She gave a slight nod at the questions. "It's more of a rediscovery of an old favorite...I thought I had long since misplaced my copy of The Mummy, but turns out, it was just hiding under the Anthology of Poe. It's a great story really. The Mummy, I mean. All sorts of mythological connections and Ancient Egyptian stuff that most people have forgotten." It always amazed Danae, the things that other people could let slip from her memories. Her mind was a steel trap, for the most part, holding the knowledge prisoner until she needed to release it again. "Have you read it?"

Raelin Lorcan - September 12, 2007 02:05 AM (GMT)
"Not the original, I read an Anne Rice version once...very racy for a horror novel..." she observed. "I haven't read recently, I have a stack of books sitting by my chair waiting for me but I've been so busy with work lately that I haven't had the time to pick them up." she gave an off handed shrug as if it didn't matter but like Danae, Rae was an avid reader.

Their food came quickly and Raeling absorbed herself in eating, the food was delicious as always and she found herself smiling at all the fond memories she and Danae shared of this place. "I think we need ice cream after this!" she stated after swalloing a mouthful of good food.

Danae Walker - September 13, 2007 04:00 AM (GMT)
"I was actually referring to the Rice version," she said, taking another bite of the food. The chef had outdid himself again, it seemed. "Definitely racy, but she pulled it off, I think...Spiced up Ramses the Damned's life, no doubt...Er, well, his afterlife, anyway."

"...I've been so busy with work lately that I haven't had the time to pick them up."

At that, Danae set her fork aside and folded her hands atop the table. She began to nod slowly, then let out a soft sigh. "About that...I can understand being married to the job, Rae. Hell, I am the job. I grew up in the job, but...I'm starting to worry about you. You can't keep staying there day and night, you know?"

It had been bugging her for some time, since Raelin's repeated offenses of spending the night in her office. Most nights, Danae did sleep in the Mendecant Dormitory, just to get a head start the next morning. She was borderline OCD when it came to being a Resourcer, but that was nothing new. Danae knew all too well how seriously Raelin took her job, but lately, it just seemed the she was pushing the limit.

"I think we need ice cream after this!"

Ah, that old enthusiasm. At least the nap had done Raelin some good. For a moment, her worries were pushed aside. "Sounds like a plan. See, this is the good thing about being single. I can pig out on Greek food, get ice cream, then go home and crash. No one cares what I look like." She said it with a smile and shrugged. Alright, so she would gladly give up her current relationship status for a certain investigator, but that was a distant dream, and better left in the recesses of her mind.

Raelin Lorcan - September 13, 2007 04:20 AM (GMT)
Raelin fidgeted in her chair as Danae mentioned her endless nights in her office, maybe if she started sleeing in the dorm she'd get off ehr case? Nah, she'd probably get in trouble with Anthony then. But luckily her ice cream comment had saved her from anymore lecturing. Go random comments.

"Sounds like a plan. See, this is the good thing about being single. I can pig out on Greek food, get ice cream, then go home and crash. No one cares what I look like."

Raelin grinned, no one cared what she looked like either...though that thought was slightly discomforting, she'd glared at all the men enough that no one looked her way anymore, the upside was that she didn't have to dress up to try and impress someone. But she did regret it once in awhile when Danae got all the apprieciative glances and Raeling got a shuffle and "good morning ma'am" if she was lucky.

"What kind of ice cream do you want?" that seemed like the safest subject to stay on. "And besides Danae, once I get my cat I'll have something to go home to...so I won't be spending time at the office."

Danae Walker - September 13, 2007 04:26 AM (GMT)
Ah, damn that ice cream comment! Danae had been hoping to get through to Raelin, but ice cream had proved a worthy distraction. Cursed sweet tooth. It was almost humorous. Almost...

"What kind of ice cream do you want? And besides Danae, once I get my cat I'll have something to go home to...so I won't be spending time at the office."

Vanilla, same as always," she said and shrugged. Working for a supernatural agency made her no less conventional. For as long as she could remember, Danae had always chosen vanilla. She didn't need the fancy additives...but then, that seemed to be her style when it came to everything, except her job.

"You know, I've said it before, but you can always come stay with me whenever you want," Danae reminded Raelin again. Anything was better than being alone. Besides, they got along better than sisters, even having the arguments like siblings would.

Raelin Lorcan - September 13, 2007 04:35 AM (GMT)
"No, because you would kill me, I know...I haven't lived with someone for a long time, I'm not fit for human company," she teased. She thought about the last person she'd lived with, was it Keelin and Greer? Or Drake? She couldn't recall anymore, all that she knew was that when she got home there was peace and quiet and thats how she liked it...or she did. Now the silence just pissed her off.

She wasn't going to admit to Danae that before her nap she cleaned up after a temper tantrum she'd thrown just make some noise in her house. Now it was clean and spotless again, the white sheets on her bed pressed and straight as a board.

"Vanilla? Rocky Road for me," she shook her head. "I can't believe you won't branch out now and again kiddo," she teased as she continued eeating.

Danae Walker - September 13, 2007 04:53 AM (GMT)
"No, because you would kill me, I know...I haven't lived with someone for a long time, I'm not fit for human company."

"Well, I've never lived with anyone...I can see the headlines now. MSI Investigator and Resourcer, Double Homicide Over Toaster." Danae flashed a grin as she finished off her meal and pushed the plate aside. Now, that was good. She almost wished there was more, just so she could take it home and eat it later when she was vegging in front of the television before she crashed out on her couch.

"Vanilla? Rocky Road for me.I can't believe you won't branch out now and again kiddo."

"Ugh, I hate it when you call me that," she muttered, trying her best to scowl, but failing miserably. Actually, she didn't mind it at all. She did, however, make a face at the mention of Rocky Road. Nuts and Marshmallows and Chocolate ruining a perfectly good, smooth ice cream. "I don't see how you eat that stuff...It's like someone dumped their groceries into the freezer or something." For the most part, Danae liked things simple, which only made her more of a walking contradiction when people found out about her occupation.

Raelin Lorcan - September 13, 2007 05:10 AM (GMT)
Raelin laughed, really laughed, at Danae's comment because it had the possibility of happening. "Well I like my toast a certain way," she defended with a gamine grin.

She scooped what was left of her food on Danae's plate and winked at her. "Now you can ask that cute waiter for take out!" she suggested with a prod of her foot. "Come on hun, you need a good date!" she teased. "Besides...maybe it'll make a certan someone...think twice??" she hinted. "Well even if he doesn't the guys still hot and a roll in the hay here and there never hurt anyone." she shrugged as if it didn't matter. (Said the woman who hadn't had a decent love life since god knows when...)

Raelin sat back and slowly sipped her wine as she digested what she had eaten, maybe a walk was in order before they got ice cream...

Danae Walker - September 14, 2007 06:54 AM (GMT)
"Come on hun, you need a good date!" she teased. "Besides...maybe it'll make a certan someone...think twice??"

Danae snorted at that, wondering if anything would make that certain someone think twice. She looked doubtfully at Raelin, then shook her head. It was understandable, to an extent...Marcus had been there when Danae was born, though her parents kept her away from MSI as a baby, only letting her come as a small child. She could still remember the first time she truly saw Marcus, as she looked at him now...And that had been years ago. God, I'm pathetic," she thought to herself, then snapped from her thoughts, looking at Raelin once again. "Sometimes...I just think I'll give it up altogether," she said with a shrug, waving the waiter over.

He gave them the signal that he would be there shortly, and she gave a slight nod. Maybe Raelin was right; a roll in the hay, so to speak, would be nice. No harm done...

"So, Rae, what's on the agenda after this?"

Raelin Lorcan - September 16, 2007 02:49 AM (GMT)
"So, Rae, what's on the agenda after this?"

Raelin looked up suddenly, wrenching herself out of her thoughts and gave Danae a sloppy smile. "Oh well, I was thinking we could go for a walk before we got ice cream, you know, to digest??" she asked hopefully, suddenly feeling confined and fidgety, alcohol did that to her, and even though she'd only had two glasses of wine she'd had a rough night and still wasn't functioning on all cylinders.

"Come on, let's go!" she said as she picked up the check and whipped out the company card. "Don't Anthony we were just shooting the breeze 'kay? We were discussing a case," she grinned with a little silliness as she sauntered up to the front of the shop, oblivious to the men that stopped to stare as she sashayed by.

Danae Walker - September 16, 2007 02:52 AM (GMT)
"Come on, let's go!"

"And off we go," Danae muttered as she got up and followed after her overly-anxious friend.

She waved at the waiter as she walked by, deciding to leave that conquest for another night. Ice cream was far less demanding anyways.

As Raelin paid for the meal, Danae made her way out of the restaurant and waited outside, leaned back against the wall, one foot propped against the brick.

Raelin Lorcan - September 16, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
Rae darted outside and took a deep breath of the cool night air. "Sorry for going so fast, I thought it best to get out of the public eye for a little bit..." she apologized. Raelin was often paranoid when she drank, she hadn't figured out why yet and even if she just did a shot of anything remotely alcoholic she'd start to get twitchy.

"Let's go luv," she smiled as she put her arm through Danae's as they strolled down through a rather green part of this small rat hole they called home. She was just bitter because of the whole Drake thing this morning and the firearm practice that didn't go well. The crisp night air was refreshing to her and calming, it let her know that she could still feel things, even if they were trivial things, like cold and warmth.

She felt like such an ass for always thinking about her problems and not addressing the problems of others. Everytime she thought she might be performing as a good friend, she was really pretending for the moment so she could go back to brooding about her own problems.

God she needed to get laid like NOW.

"Nice night eh?" she said instead of going back inside, grabbing their waiter and dragging him back to her Loft.

Danae Walker - September 16, 2007 03:31 AM (GMT)
"Sorry for going so fast, I thought it best to get out of the public eye for a little bit..."

Danae just shrugged, falling into step with Raelin as they made their way down the street. "No worries. I'm used to it by now," she told her, glancing over at her with a small smile.

She wasn't one to make waves or even argue about where they went. Honestly, Danae was far too calm and collected to even care. She just went with the flow, found a groove and followed it until it fizzled out. The things that made her giddy were urban legends and ancient tales; she could find plenty to occupy her time within the walls of MSI, but fully understood the moods Raelin had when the world felt like it was closing in. Danae had the luxury of disappearing into the folklore of another world, but Raelin didn't, and so, Danae would provide the much needed distraction.

"Nice night eh?"

"Sure," she said with a nod, glancing around the rundown town square, remembering the grandeur it had once possessed. "It's funny, huh? The streetlights are dimmer than the moon's rays, the people's eyes are cold and dark...The whispers in the wind are evil, foreboding, and still, this is a good night, for us."

Raelin Lorcan - September 16, 2007 03:41 AM (GMT)
Rae smiled at life's little oddities. "Well of course, I've never felt more like shooting something in my life, and I always feel more alive after I've killed something," she admited with a wry smirk.

It was true though, what Danae had said. Everyone's hope was diminishing, the world was getting smaller and more evil than ever was rearing it's ugly head. People had forgotten what it meant to live for happiness, these days people lived as long as they could with what they had.

"What season is it?" she asked suddenly. "I feel cold, but is it fall or winter?" she demanded. "I never know these days, I think it's because I'm inside all the time..."

Danae Walker - September 16, 2007 03:46 AM (GMT)
"Well of course, I've never felt more like shooting something in my life, and I always feel more alive after I've killed something."

That was enough to bring Danae out of her overly philsophical thoughts, causing her to shake her head. "Rae, babe, you always feel like shooting something," Danae said with more than a little exaggeration, however truthful, then flashed her friend a seemingly innocent smile.

It was the truth...However precise, Raelin was one trigger-happy investigator. Sometimes, Danae wondered if someone had coined the phrase, "Shoot first and ask questions later" with Raelin Lorcan in mind.

"What season is it? I feel cold, but is it fall or winter I never know these days, I think it's because I'm inside all the time..."

"It's Fall," Danae answered with a slight nod, glancing down at her old, worn watch that somehow was still ticking. Time seemed trivial these days, but she wore it out of habit, just the same. "Warmer than past years, though," she added, glancing at Raelin again. "You're cold? You feelin' alright?"

Raelin Lorcan - September 16, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
"I'm always cold these days," Raelin muttered offhandedly. "It's nothing new, I think it's because I'm slightly out of shape. I haven't been taking my vitamins like I'm supposed to..." she sighed as she rubbed her eyes.

They walked in silence for a moment as the wind blew crisply around them and her hair twitched slightly. "Ice cream now right?" she asked, at a loss as what they should be discussing at the moment that didn't have anything to do with cases or shooting, or talking about herself anymore.

Danae Walker - September 16, 2007 04:17 AM (GMT)
"It's nothing new, I think it's because I'm slightly out of shape. I haven't been taking my vitamins like I'm supposed to..."

"You should take better care of yourself," Danae said thoughtfully. Because you're almost all I've got. Her parents were long gone, and though Antony made himself accessible at all times, she knew he was a busy man. Danae had her friends within MSI, and some of the DreamWalkers and Avatars, but when it came to secrets and life and loves, all she had was Raelin.

"Ice cream now right?"

At the question, Danae gave another nod. "Works for me," she said, tugging on Raelin's arm and steering them to the nearest creamery. As they stood in the short line, Danae tilted her head, looking at Raelin again. "You ever want to leave?" she asked suddenly, looking away as she voiced the question, glancing around at the night that slowly settled around them.

Yes, contrary to popular belief, and despite her general happiness within MSI, Danae had thought about what it would be like to leave someday.

Raelin Lorcan - September 16, 2007 04:47 AM (GMT)
"Every fucking day." was the given reply.

Raelin wanted nothing more than to leave it all behind, never see Drake again, never have to think about her troubles and just live how she wanted to for as long as she was supposed to live. Settle down and have a family some little boys and little girls to brush their hair and give them baths and tuck them into bed and read them stories before going to bed with their father and snuggling all night.

A silly grin washed across her face as she let herself think about the possibilities of that. Hope blossomed in her chest for a moment before it withered again as another cold wind slapped her in the face. Oh right, no one wanted her, therefore she would never get married and never have children and spend the rest of her life at MSI, in fact she'd probably die at her desk, and buried under the mound of paperwork she'd have accquired by them.

A dark chuckle escaped her lips as they stepped up to order. "Two vanilla cones please," she ordered, plain sounded good right about now.

Danae Walker - September 16, 2007 04:55 AM (GMT)
Danae raised a brow at the silly grin, but then, somehow she understood. Getting away meant gaining another life, a freedom they had hardly known. Where Raelin smiled, Danae sighed as she thought about the possibilities. She could teach...She could work in some grand lab...She could write stories and lead expeditions and...and...and...She could snap out of it and realize once again that she was a Mendecant, a Resourcer, and she would forever hold that title.

"Two vanilla cones please."

"With an extra scoop of frigid bitch, if you don't mind," Danae muttered with a smirk. It was amazing, how they could smile and how she could truly love her job, but with one mention of another life, it was your typical Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde complex.

Taking one of the cones as it was handed to her, Danae paid for them both, then linked arms with Raelin once again. "What would you do, Rae, if you weren't with MSI?" she asked, curious if her dreams were as farfetched as they seemed sometimes.

Raelin Lorcan - September 16, 2007 05:42 AM (GMT)
Rae chuckled at Danae's interjection and looked over at her.

"What would you do, Rae, if you weren't with MSI?"

"Find someone who'll put up with my shit, have a few kids, cuddle at night..." she shrugged as if it weren't really that important while really it was one of the things that mattered most in her life. She licked at her ice cream and stared off into space. "I just want to be normal I suppose, I was never normal as a child and I'm certainly not normal now. I want a big house and a loving husband and kids. That's what I want and after that I never want to touch a gun ever again." she added with a bit more malice than she meant.

It was so odd her fondest wish. No one would have expected Raelin Lorcan to just wanted to settle down and have a loving family. She decided to get drunk as soon as she got home tonight. "What aobut you hun?" she asked looking at her dear friend.

Danae Walker - September 16, 2007 05:49 AM (GMT)
Danae listened to the wish, finding herself smiling, imagining Raelin with kids holding tightly to her and a husband at her side. It was a wonderful dream...but as always, Danae had that suffocating feeling that it would forever be a dream...Perhaps she should enlist Drake's help. After all, didn't he make dreams come true?

"What aobut you hun?"

Biting into the ice cream as always, Danae shrugged at first, pondering the question. "I don't know...I'd like to teach. Folklore, at the Universty, I think. I'd like to find someone to love me without question, someone who wouldn't be so afraid of our differences, of our pasts...A child would be nice, someone to love, to leave a legacy with. It all sounds so simple, the things we want. Others have them and cast them aside...."she said, her words trailing off as she looked down at the ground. "I wonder, after this life, if we'd be happy with those things, Rae."

In the mood she was in tonight, Danae could've written the book on forgotten dreams and unforeseen tragedy.

Raelin Lorcan - September 16, 2007 06:05 AM (GMT)
"I could see you teaching..." she trailed off.

"I wonder, after this life, if we'd be happy with those things, Rae."

"Probably not," Rae admitted. "I'm sure after all this, a loving family would just be too boring," she shrugged as she bit into her ice cream. "We'd go nuts and eventualyl come back to what we know best, MSI. I think in the end, this will be all we have left," she sighed. A shiver ran up her spine for some reason and she looked over her shoulder towards the poorer side of town.

"I think we'll be busy tomorrow," was all she said, returning to her ice cream.

Danae Walker - September 16, 2007 06:14 AM (GMT)
"We'd go nuts and eventually come back to what we know best, MSI. I think in the end, this will be all we have left."

Danae sighed with her, nodding reluctantly. They would always be Mendecants. Even if someday, they were no longer needed and could have some sort of life, they would still be lurking in those marbles halls and listening to the whispers of the ghosts of the old days. "Pretty much..." It was so set in stone that Danae had to chuckle. What else could she do?

"I think we'll be busy tomorrow."

She looked back with Raelin, closing her eyes for a moment to banish those sinking feelings that crept inside of her whenever evil came to close. "Guess we should call it a night, right?" she asked, turning her eyes to Raelin, then back ahead of them again.

"Yeah...I'll walk you back to your dorm," she said as she turned and headed back towards MSI. "I think...that people need to find hope again..." she murmured softly as she ate the rest of her cone. "I think that would make our job alot easier..." she shrugged.

"I also think that I'm going to take a nice hot bath when I get home and take a vacation day after tomorrow, I need more sleep," she sighed. "Besides it'll be good for me right?" she wanted some sort of approval from someone that skipping work was acceptable when all you wanted to do was lay in bed and sleep all day.

"Yeah...I'll walk you back to your dorm."

"Oh, you don't have to. It's alright," Danae told her, shaking her head. "I'm actually going home tonight, not staying at MSI." Most of the time, Danae was there from sun up to sundown, only to start the whole rigorous process all over again, but tonight, she desired that feeling of home that her apartment away from MSI offered.

Hope...Danae had to laugh. "I think hope died with the dinosaurs, Rae," she said quietly, shaking her head.

"Besides it'll be good for me right?"

Nodding to the whole thing, Danae beamed at Raelin. Finally, she was taking a break from work and letting her body get a much needed break from constant running and jumping hurdles. "Absolutely," Danae told her with another nod. So said the woman who never missed a day in her life....

"Oh alright, well be safe!" Raeling ordered in her usual barking tone as she pulled Danae in for a hug then let her go with one final tug on her hair. "Get some sleep!" she also ordered before turning around and walking away.

She sucked at good byes, they were awkward and short but luckily Danae had enough sense to know that she loved her and wanted her to be safe and happy. Time to go home and get drunk.

Danae's lips spread into a smile as Raelin once against barked orders at her in parting. She was glad to see that in an ever-darkening world, some things would never change.

Returning the embrace, Danae chuckled as Raelin tugged her hair, then made her way to her own apartment, calling out in the night to Raelin.

"Be careful! And go to sleep this time!"

So? Danae could be bossy too...Or at least pretend to be.
