Sometimes your best friend is your best lover. Other times your best lover is your worst friend. Then there are times when friends and lovers should never be mixed. There are times when you reach a border line.
This is a story as old as time. This is a story about a boy and a girl. This is a story about friendship, love, lust, and everything else that can enter a boy/girl friendship. This is the story of Tyler and Caddy’s eighth grade year. So much can happen in one little year.
Tyler and Caddy met briefly in sixth grade. In seventh grade they had math class together, but didn’t really ever talk to each other. In eighth they knew each other one hell of a lot better than they ever thought they would.
CHAPTER ONE
Cadence
I've been asked to tell my story, so I will in the best way I know how. I'll write everything I remember that I classify as important to the outcome of my eigth grade year. I think it’s safe to say that this story starts with registration going into eighth grade...
There were four days you could ‘register’. One for incoming sixth graders, one for incoming seventh graders, one for incoming eighth graders, and one the next night for people who couldn’t come to normal registration because their parents worked or whatever.
On the afternoon of the night registration I decided to go with my mom to my younger brother Chris’ football practice, which was held at my school. I had gone to normal registration a few days previously, but I decided to go since I might see some people I knew.
When the registration started I walked up to where the long line of people waiting to go inside and register were. The principal, Mrs. Kane was standing outside with a stack of papers and saw me walk up.
"Hello Cadence!" She smiled at me and I went over to her to ask her how her summer was because this is what people like me do. We are polite and we say hi to people and ask them questions about themselves because we care, or at least act like we care.
"Hi Mrs. Kane." I smiled at her brightly. "Did you have a nice summer vacation?"
"It was lovely, thank you! And how was your's?" She asked, looking down at me with her piercing blue eyes.
"It went well, thank you." I smiled at her again and she smiled back before turning to give an arriving family one of the station checklists she was holding.
"Are you here for registration?" Mrs. Kane asked, looking a little anxious.
"No, my brother has football practice down on the field." I replied, gesturing to the field behind me.
"Ahh, so you'll be here for a while."
"Yeah." I gave a nervous smile and a half laugh.
"Would you mind handing out these papers for me? Just give one to every family that comes up, it's really for the parents but just give it to parent or child." She looked hopefull and I had nothing better to do, so I said yes.
"Great! Well, I should be getting in to registration. I'll make sure you get community service for it and everything!" She smiled warmly and turned to walk away into the school after handing me the stack of station checklists.
Pretty soon my friend Trina, who was going into 9th grade at the neighborhood high school came with her little brother and we talked for a little bit. Not many people were arriving anymore, so mostly I just listened to Trina talk about cheerleading and why I should try out next summer.
Pretty much the only person who showed up that I knew more about than their name was Tyler.
Tyler was with his mom so we said hi, exchanged smiles and I gave him a paper. Then I went back to talking to Trina. I left about 30 minutes after registration ended when my brother's football practice was over.
I remember thinking on the day of registration that Tyler had become a bit more attractive over the summer. He had never been unattractive, but I'd definitely seen better. I've still seen better than what he looks like now, but he's probably like a 7/10 in hotness. He's half Mexican, but he looks mostly white, just sort of tan all the time. He's got some freckles on and around his nose, which has a high bridge. Although it's not like a beak or anything. It's more flat, just high-bridged. His lips are small and his eyes are a chocolaty brown. His hair is dark brown and it's short. Not a buzz-cut, it just comes like most of the way down his forehead. If I had to make an estimate I'd say it's like an inch long or so. So yeah, attractive person. He was also now taller than my 5'3" height. I'd say he was like 5'5" ish. I didn't really think of him as a possibility for my next boyfriend though. For one thing he was popular, not first-tier or anything but still in that whole group. For another, he liked hot girls. And I was definitely not hot. At least I didn’t think I was. And I definitely didn’t think other guys considered me hot. I added Tyler as a friend on myspace that night, but that wasn't a big deal at all. At least I didn’t think it was.
CHAPTER TWO
Tyler
I don’t know if Cadence is right in saying it all started with registration. Although I guess it sort of did in a way. It was the first time we saw each other in about three months. And we had both changed…a lot.
I lived right by my school, and the day of night registration I had been hanging out with some other kids in my neighborhood while I was supposed to be babysitting my little brother. I had been hanging out with my two best friends, Will and Matt, and my crush back then, Allie. The girl was hot. She was kind of tall, which was too bad, but the rest of her body was great. Oh, the only other problem was her mouth. It was like the biggest mouth ever, and when she opened it wide enough I thought she might eat me. But it was all good because she was still hot and she flirted with me all the time. The girl was – and is – such a tease. I found out later that she never cared about me as more than her little buddy Ty.
I had gotten home just before my mom, so she wouldn't know that I had left my little brother alone and bribed him not to tell with $5. We walked up to registration. I was walking across the parking lot and I saw this girl who I thought had been in a class with me the year before. She ran over to me and smiled. She had a killer smile; truly happy, no braces, pearly white. You know, the whole works.
“Hey Tucker!” She exclaimed as she reached me, holding a stack of papers. I thought really hard and then remembered her name.
“Hey Ca-Cadence.” I replied giving her a small smile and flattened my hair; one of my habits.
Cadence handed me this sheet of paper and told me to give it to my mom. Then said goodbye as we walked over to the long line of people waiting to get inside, flashing another one of her killer smiles.
I remember seeing her and thinking that she had gotten hotter. I had never really noticed her in sixth and seventh grade. In fact, I wasn’t even sure I had known her in seventh grade. That day I noticed Cadence was actually pretty attractive. She was a little tan and her boobs were huge. Her shirt wasn't low-cut, which was too bad, but whatever. It was kinda' tight, so that was cool, I guess. Her hair was different, it had those bang things that go off to one side of your face, but as usual it was up in a ponytail. It had golden streaks in it that shone in the light of the partially set sun.
Her eyes were a light brownish color, which I would find out later was mixed with a lot of green. She's got really...interesting eyes. Her lashes are really nice and I found out later that she doesn’t use that make up stuff on them that makes them pretty. I guess maybe you have to have nice eyes when you've got really nice boobs. Otherwise guys would have no reason to look at the girl's face. She also has lips that aren't huge, but aren't thin either. They're really nice, I used to think about kissing them a lot. Her nose is good too. It's a nice little slope. Of course I don't remember all of this from registration, but a lot of it. We only saw each other for like a minute or less after all, but I did happen to see her ass also. It's really nice too.
Cadence sent me a friend request on myspace that night, and I accepted. Of course I didn’t think that would be a big deal, I had over 100 friends, so what’s one more?
CHAPTER THREE
Cadence
I actually like the first day of school…sort of. There’s a thrill in being back in classes and seeing all your old friends and checking out who’s going to be in your classes and if you have good teachers or not. The only bad thing is that it’s the end of summer. There’s Labor Day weekend, go home from my lake cabin on Monday evening, spend Tuesday in preparation, school on Wednesday. It all happens so fast. It’s kind of scary. After the first three days of hugs, hellos, and welcomes, it goes back to normal school-like blah and I start missing summer. I miss being at the lake. I miss swimming and driving the motorboat and hanging out with my friends until midnight.
The lake is like my haven. I do so much thinking there. I have so much fun there. The lake is this smallish lake in Southern Washington, right by the Colombia River Gorge. There are fifty cabins, and my grandparents own one of them. It’s like a little town there during the summer. People are up and strolling around in bathing suits with towels around their necks, boating on the main lake, kayaking and watching nature in one of the smaller outlets, swimming at the personal docks or the main swim dock. What ever you’re doing up there, it’s almost always fun. I have a group of friends up there too. We have lots of fun hanging out and swimming and all that jazz. So it’s always a bummer when Labor Day weekend is over and we all go home. Even though the lake is only an hour’s drive from my quaint Portland home, it feels like more.
On the first day of school it was really no different than any other first day of school I’d had. But in some ways it was. It was the start of a brand new school year. I was in eighth grade, top of the school. Well, in a way. I wasn’t exactly what you’d call popular, but I wasn’t exactly a loser either. Mostly this marked the start of a year where a lot of shit happened. And for the most part, it was good shit. Though I didn’t realize it at the time, all the bad stuff that happened to me ended up being good in the end.
I had block, in periods one through three with a few of my good friends (Mary, Adrienne, and Anna), dance in fourth with my two best friends (Jenny and Sarah) and most of my good friends, and then lunch fifth period with all the other eighth graders. After lunch I had math, science, and then art.
In science I wasn’t with any of my good friends, but there were two of my semi-good friends (Laurel and Helen) there, so that was nice. There was also Tyler in that class. I didn’t really pay much attention to that, in fact I barley noticed because I was getting caught up with Laurel. Then in math I had Mary, Laurel, and Tyler. This class I was forced to notice Tyler because he was sitting right across from me. (This is what happens when teachers do seating charts alphabetically.) In art, I had none of my friends, but there were some nice-looking people there.
It was going to be an interesting year.
CHAPTER FOUR
Tyler
Weird as this is, I actually kind of like the first day of school. But only the first day and the last week or so when you don’t do anything ‘educational’. It’s cool to see all your old friends, find out who’s in your class, and see who got hot over the summer. During the summer I didn’t really do anything anyway except go on MySpace and hang out with Will and Matt, and sometimes Allie too. But after about the first week of school I find myself begging for it to be summer again, and count down the days until the next day off from school.
I once again had Ms. Wright for block, but I knew she was looping so this wasn’t a surprise. My class still had my friends Alex, Jack, and Malcolm in my class and also this sexy girl named Krista. Well I thought she was super sexy then, but now that I think back on it, she wasn’t all that hot. She had a pretty face - I guess you would call it hot too – and a semi-nice body. She was pretty skinny, but her boobs weren’t that big and her ass was all right.
I had almost every class with her, except third and eighth periods. When we were in electives. Well actually I was only in an elective in third period because I had study hall eighth period ‘cause I never can get my homework done. It doesn’t help that Ms. Wright assigns a ton.
In my third period I was in Engineering Design with Alex and my friend Matt's friend Ben, who was a seventh grader but still really cool. Sixth period was science, again with Alex, and Cadence was in there too. I didn't really know Cadence very well and I was already starting to like Krista so I was paying more attention to her and Alex than anyone else. Well in math the next period I was forced to pay attention to Cadence because she was right across from me. We would be next to each other in both Science and math several more times during the school year, teachers can be so stupid when it comes to seating charts. Alphabetical order by last name? How stupid!
hey!
so far it sounds really good. maybe try not to repeat opinions as in both Cadence and Tyler said that they were forced to sit across from each other. try and reword it a bit maybe? but apart from that it was really good. i like this edited version its easier to understand and everything!
woo! more! liking it so far, though sometimes i feel you should compress it a bit
