Author's Note: Hello! I'm a newbie here, so this is the first time I'm posting. THis story is meant to be a short one, but if anyone wanted it to be lengthened to a serial..maybe I'll crack my brain to think of new ideas. Or maybe you could provide me with some??? Read and enjoy!
Snow was settling on the leaves and branches. The cold winter wind howled every now and then, with the trees, as if aroused from sleep, shaking off the snow, only to be replaced by a new layer of whiteness.
He alone entered this freezer of death. He alone roamed into this forest that had claimed others’ lives before him. He alone ventured into monster, who watched for every chance to pounce on its prey, with only the tattered shirt and pants that he wore, which were too little to protect him from the biting cold. Nevertheless, he braved the wind and continued crawling towards the forest with the last burst of energy, just like a man in the desert would when he saw an oasis in front of him.
His eyes were red from lack of sleep, and his hair was long and matted with blood. Shivering, he scaled up the nearest tree and stayed there, patiently waiting for night to come...
The sun finally set, casting a red hue on the trees and the snow land. He winced at the colour. Blood red. It reminds him of the countless people he had attacked, attacked, without him knowing it…..Jesse, Mr. Gwert, sweet old Granny Fruo...and other people, other people that had a special place in his heart. Tonight, he thought sadly, it will all end.
Night, like a pail of cold water, was dumped onto the forest. Notorious animals began to be on the move. Whispering of the trees, crying of the animals and the occasionally screams could be heard. “Wait,” he told himself firmly. “Wait for the wolves to come out first.”
All around him was a mass of swirling wind and snow. He waited, with a patience that one could hardly see from a nearly dying person. The cold was more acute, the wind tearing at his body. But still he waited, for the something that he looked forward to so eagerly.
In the distance, wolves could be heard howling in unison. He stiffened. This is it. He took out a yellow torchlight, on it, and shone it on himself. The light was so like those of the pale moon. Instantly, an immense pain spread through him.
Thousands of needles began pushing their ways out of his skin. His fingernails began to grow longer and larger, so does his palms. While still in his human mind, he slided down the trees. He smiled to himself despite the pain. It’s going to end…
On the forest ground, he continued to change. His mouth grew longer; his nose grew darker and blacker. He began tearing at the tree with his paws, to relief himself of the pain he’s feeling. “Goodbye everyone,” he whispered, his breathe ragged. Suddenly, he saw Lydia’s face, her mouth poised between silent and laughter. Her sweet red lips so close to him, so very close….
The pain suddenly stopped. The steps were completed.
The wolves howled again. He stiffened, pointed his nose to the sky, and let out his first answering howl.
