George the Donut
--from the book-in-progress, Donut stories for Children
George was a hygiene-obsessed donut. Everyday, he washed his house from top to bottom. Then he would read his issue of Cleaner’s Weekly, wearing latex gloves and using tweezers to turn the pages. Later, he would give his cat, Clorox, her evening (she had one in the mornings too) scrub.
One morning, as George was struggling to polish his sponge collection, he noticed that his loafers had a bit of dirt on them. He hastily shook them off. “These shoes are ruined!” George frowned, rubbing his small goatee. Binding his feet in plastic wrap, George decided to go and buy a new pair.
There were a lot of people at the shoe store that day. Everyone was very close together, and people kept bumping into him. George was terrified. Not that he would be stepped on, of course, but that the other people’s germs would get on him. As he was examining a pair of leather slippers, wondering if they could be sterilized, he heard a commotion coming from behind him. Everybody was talking at once, each trying to quickly exit the store. It was hard to make out the words, but George heard one, loud and clear. “Lice!” someone yelled.
George froze for exactly 3 seconds. Then he shot out of the store, faster then you could blink. He screamed as he ran down the sidewalk, holding his head like it was on fire. He was even afraid to go back to his house, in case the lice would just spread their germs in his home.
So George just ran. All the way down the sidewalk, all the way out of town. No one has ever seen him return. But, if you ever see George on a sidewalk in your town, you might tell him that donuts can’t get lice, since their heads are made of pastry.
Also, being a donut…George didn’t have any hair.
The End

Thanks...but is there anything at all you might suggest for it's improvement?

The story was really cute, I think, but what age group is this aimed at? I know it's a story for children, but what sort of children? Below or above reading age?
