Description: Why love is worth it...

"Robbie," she said, looking anxiously at her big cousin.
"What?" He replied. She could tell that he wasn't really listening because he was intently eying the cute blonde at the front of the plane.
"I'm scared."
"Of what?"
"I don't like planes."
"Great."
She sighed. She knew she couldn't count on Robbie to be very sensitive but she didn't have anything else to do besides cling to him like a lost dog. There was nobody else she knew that was going on this trip and she had never been to Arizona before.
"Where are we sitting?"
"You're sitting over there. I am sitting next to her." He replied, pointing to the blonde like a piece of meat.
"Robbie, no. You promised you would sit with me." She sounded a lot more pathetic and whiny than she had intended, but she was terrified.
"Um, yeah but she's hot. So, I'll catch up with you later." She called him a rude name under her breath and walked over to seat number G128. At least it was a window seat, she thought. If she had to sit away from a window she'd go crazy. Literally, because she had ADHD and OCD.
A few minutes later, as she was gazing out the window, a guy came and sat next to her. She had to fake a cough in order to cover up her gaping mouth. This guy was godly looking. Slightly messy light brown hair, sharp features, hazel eyes, beatifully lucious lips, about 5'9 and obviously worked out quite a bit.
"Hey. I'm Natalie." She said smiling, thinking to herself that it was a good thing that she'd decided to curl her hair that morning.
"I'm Danny." He replied. Natalie bit her lip and looked slightly worried. "Are you Robbie's cousin?" He asked.
"Yeah."
"I'm his best friend, but you probably know that. I'm sure he told you not to have anything to do with me." She smiled. "But don't worry, I'm harmless. (She would probably never meet anyone less harmless for the rest of her life.)
"Yeah, he did tell me that, but luckily he's my cousin. Not my daddy." Danny laughed and Natalie blushed a little. She was never very good at talking to cute guys, but she seemed to be doing alright so far with Danny.
A couple hours passed and Danny and Natalie hadn't stopped talking and laughing.

(Note: It gets way, way more dramatic later. This is just kind of the setup, so bear with me.)

The long flight finally came to an end at about five o'clock in the evening. Once all the kids had checked in with the chaperones and got their luggage, they went to eat.
"Did anyone ever tell you that you look a lot like Demi Moore?" Danny was commenting to Natalie.
"I've heard it a couple times, but I don't really think so."
"I like your hair better though, and your eyes are bigger." Danny said, flashing a dazzling smile. Natalie contemplated how red her cheeks must have been. Probably something like a ripe tomatoe with third degree sunburn.
The food came and everyone was starving. The scary thing was that Natalie's miniscule ninty-five pound body was truly starving. She knew that her eating disorder was harming her, and that she was never fat, but once she started the vicious cycle it was impossible to stop.
Fortunatly, Natalie was far from the only girl who ordered a small salad that night so nobody singled her out in particular. She was obviously uncomfortable talking with the other girls because she constantly tapped her foot and twiddled her fingers while looking around anxiously.
"Nat, come here for a sec." Robbie tapped her on the shoulder. Oh boy, she thought, I'm in big trouble now. He's going to tell me off for flirting with Danny.
"Look, I told you Danny was bad news. What the hell do you think you're doing? Don't think I didn't see you acting like a hoa-"
"You know what, I'm sick of your bullshit! You aren't my daddy, your my cousin. My second cousin! And I'll talk to whoever I want. In fact, I think I'm doing the smart thing by not listening to you. For one, you're only six months older than me, so don't even try that. Second, you're a lazy jerk with no morals, and third, you can't talk about me being a flirt when I saw you putting your hands all over Barbie over there!"
"Fine, just don't come moping to me when you lose your virginity, assuming you are a virgin, and he dumps you just like he's done to a thousand other worthless chicks." They sat back down and didn't make eye contact for the rest of the meal.
On the bus ride to the hotel Natalie sat with Belle, Lynda and Anna, a few of the girls that she'd gotten along reasonably well with at dinner.
"So, Natalie, Robbie's your cousin right?" Belle asked.
"Unfortunatly, yes..."
"Do you think I have a chance with him?"
"Ugh, gross. Don't even say that!"
"Well let me explain. See, I was dating his best friend and we broke up three months ago, so I want to make him jealous." Belle replied.
"Oh. You dated Danny? Why'd you guys break up?"
"Because he's a total jerk! All he ever wanted was, well, you know..."
"How old is he?"
"Almost eighteen. Why? Oh, please don't tell me you like him. I mean, it's okay if you want to flirt with him a little, just don't let it get too far. Trust me, it's not worth it. All he's got is a pretty face."
"And a six pack." Anna added jokingly.
"And a gorgeous smile." Chimed Lynda. They laughed but Belle continued what she was saying.
"Seriously, he's bad news."
"Don't you think you're jumping the gun a little? I've only talked to the guy once! I just met him today. He wouldn't be interested in me anyway. I'm almost two years younger and there are tons of pretty girls around." Natalie replied.
"From the way I've seen him eyeing you over there, I think he'd be very interested." Belle said with a twinge of resentment. "Just remember what I said."
"Robbie told me the same thing. I don't get why you guys are so worried, but I promise I'll remember your warning." Belle didn't seem to completley believe her.
"As for your chances with Robbie, I wouldn't bother because you could do way, way better. But if you want to, then go for it. You won't have a problem."
Belle smiled and the girls laughed again as the bus arrived at the Mariott hotel.

After about a week Natalie began to feel very homesick. She always did when she went away from her family. Not because she was any worse off in Washington than she was in Chicago, but when she was home she could lie in her bed and read to pass the time. And she could go through the motions of daily life without anyone knowing what was going on inside her head. But when she was surrounded by other kids, it was really intimidating. She talked to Danny alone sometimes, but mostly she hung out with Lynda, Belle and Anna. Around eight in the evening, Natalie went down to the beach and let the water come up and touch her feet as she walked. She wondered how far she could walk into the water before it would carry her away, but she didn't care to find out so she just kept walking along the side of the water.
"Hey Nat," she jumped. It was Robbie.
"You scared me." It wasn't often that Robbie sounded like this. Usually he was stubborn and arrogant, a typical teenage boy. But he sounded different now.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, you just startled me, that's all."
"No, I don't mean that." He sighed.
"I know."
"I'm really sorry."
"It's okay." He was surprised that she didn't make any snide remarks or give him any cruel looks.
"Is something bothering you?" She shook her head, which was very difficult for her to do because she desperately wanted someone to listen to her problems. To make everything better. But Robbie was not this person, it seemed like nobody was this person.
The next afternoon Danny called Natalie's room to ask if she wanted to come down to the pool because a bunch of people were going swimming. Natalie said that she didn't feel very well, which was true but she mostly just said that so she wouldn't have to look at all the girls who were prettier than her in thier bikinis. Which was ironic because none of them had more beauty than she did, but she could never see it in herself. Danny asked her if something was wrong. A lot of people had been asking her that question lately and she hated it because it was so hard to tell the truth. She wished they would ask "what's wrong?" instead because then she'd at least have to acknowledge that something was bothering her. She answered that nothing was wrong. Danny asked if she wanted to go get lunch with him.
"I thought you were going swimming."
"I don't feel like it much right now."
"Alright then." Danny was genuinly worried because Natalie looked like she hadn't eaten a decent meal in months. But she just didn't seem to be herself eihter. Not that he really knew her very well, but the day they talked on the plane and the couple days after that, Natalie had been so much more lively. The two of them met in the lobby and decided to walk across the street to Applebee's.
"You look tired." Danny said.
"I didn't get much sleep last night." Great, she thought, I'm hideous.
"I saw you walking on the beach with Robbie, I hope he didn't upset you."
"No, he apologized actually."
"Oh, that's good because he was acting like an a*s hole." This made Natalie smile and from then on she couldn't stop smiling. They talked and ate and for that time, she was happy. They got back to the hotel at 1:30.
"I feel bad that you didn't go swimming." Natalie said, "you missed all the girls in bikinis." He laughed at the joke but answered seriously.
"I'd rather be with you." She gave him skeptical look and he said, "Really. I like talking to you a lot." She blushed.
"Aren't you going to that museum thingy in twenty minutes? I heard all the juniors and seniors were going today."
"I went last year. I've got a late birthday so I was already sixteen and I got to go with them." Danny replied. "Hey, do you want to watch a movie or something? They won't be back until dinner anyway." So they went into the forum room and were debating on which movie to watch.
"The Ring?"
"No way, how about Pirates of the Caribbean?"
"That's so stupid, lets watch Night of the Living Dead."
"Sure, if you want claw marks permanently scarred on your arms."
"I'll pass on that, how about Troy? At least that has some violence."
"I've seen it twelve times and I cry like a baby every time." Danny laughed.
"Come on, it's a cool movie."
"I know, it's my favorite. It's just really sad."
"It'sabout war."
"No it's not."
"Well, that's the only half decent movie they've got so we're watching it."
"Fine."
"Try not to cry."
"I will." After about fifteen minutes into the movie, Natalie had mouthed every single word. When it got to the part where Achilles's cousin died, Danny got up and got a box of tissues as a joke. Natalie laughed even though her eyes were beginning to water. By the end of the movie she was crying, but not to badly. She wondered why Danny enjoyed spending time with her and despite his reputation, she really liked spending time with him as well.
