The thought that haunts me is looming nearer,
Coming to the surface, I can feel it,
It is fate and destiny will soon come to seal it.
The storm is enough to scare me,
I see something there outside my window, surely I do...
A shadow, not fully showing, but still I know it's there, still I am aware
My senses sharpen, I'm panting, my breathing is impaired
No, it is only rain tapping on my windowpane,
The rain that hides my tears,
There is nothing looming here, or at least I can blame it on the storm...
But when the darkness comes, black as the Raven in the night,
There are no warm hands to hold in mine, only the cold, strangling hands that come in the night,
When the blackness comes there is no rain, there is no mist,
I can make no mistake that there is only blackness
And when the shadow comes, purely black as the blood that wets the Trojan Plain while Achilles's sword is raised,
there is a tapping on my windowpane, which I can blame no longer on the rain,
it is knocking,
a rhythmic tic-tocking
and now a banging, that turns to blood thumping in my ears.
Raise your sword, Mighty Achilles, while I weep
Now that you have slain him, you have strangled my escape,
Wife of Hector, I salute you,
Wife of Hector, I bow to you,
Kiss the ground and raise my arms to you,
For I have nothing left to do...
You are the darkness, and the pain
My tears will flood a sea of rain.
Take me. You are the darkness, you are the doom,
Let the goddess of Fate spin her miserable loom.
Wife of Hector, I salute you.
To Zeus, and Hades, and Aphrodite and Hestia alike, I know you hear me , all the way on Mount Olympus,
Easy for you it is to say, "Let her cry, let her rot, and mold and must"
Because I am merely a mortal,
But here I say to you, controllers of fate and all earthly things,
You have never loved, have never feared have never dreamed, can never know my pain.
You know not the meaning of fate.
You are relentless in your ignorance,
You pride yourselves on my tears,
So, no longer will I hide.
I salute you, rulers of Fate and killing,
I salute your hero, great Achilles.
I salute you with my tears,
No longer do I fear what you have in store,
because not misery could there be more,
not hopelessnes could there be more,
not darkness could there be more...
Hear my cry, hear my roar,
My screams will rival those of yours
"Why does Andromache shreik like so?" Say you, Posieden
"She is louder than your loudest storms" May Athena reply,
"Surely that is no mortal voice within her human form."
And you will never know, you will never understand the agony that covers the tips of my toes to the tips of my hands.
Rulers of mortals, who know nothing of mortals,
Dictators of emotion, who know nothing of misery,
Wise Kings, who know nothing of their subjects,
Deciders of fate,
I salute you.
May you hear me forever...
