Chapter One: The End Is Near
"Do not speak of such things Your Highness!"
The woman let out a low laugh.
"You may as well just stop calling me that. He is through with me. That Seymour girl has him now. And you know what? He's too stupid to realize that she is just a plain more virtuous version of me."
"Your Highness should not give up so easily! You must fight once again for the right that you earned throughout those six years of terrible battle, the battle that ended three years ago but is returning once more. With you in the opposite position."
"Yes, with me in the opposite position! Katherine was defeated by me, now I am defeated by little Jane."
"Please Your Highness! Give it one last chance!"
"No, all I will do now is make sure that my little girl has a good future set out for her. Elizabeth is my only concern."
The man appeared as though he were going to reply, but the woman walked away triumphantly, off to the nursery to see her little girl.
Elizabeth awoke to her former governess and good friend, Kat Ashley, shaking her gently.
"Morning Your Highness! Do you think the blue dress with the saphires will be suitable for today?"
"Good morning Kat. Yes I think the blue dress will do nicely. Has Lord Dudley arrived yet?"
"No, are you expecting him?"
"Yes, we are to break our fast this morning with Sir William and then go out hunting for a few hours."
"Oh, well I'm sure he will arrive shortly. Shall I fetch Sir William?"
"No, what time is it?"
"9 of the clock."
"Thank you Kat, tell one of my ladies to tell Sir William to meet me in my recieving room in one hour."
"Right away Your Highness!"
Kat busled off to find one of the ladies in waiting.
"Jane, would you fetch me my blue dress? The one with the saphires."
"Yes Your Highness."
"Thank you. Caroline, please help me into my stays."
"Yes Your Highness." Caroline answered coming over and slipping off Elizabeth's nightdress.
"Thank you." Caroline replied that it was her pleasure and began to tighten the queen's stays.
"There you are, Your Majesty."
"Thank you Caroline. You may go." Caroline curtsied and backed out the door.
Jane entered from Elizabeth's closet a moment later carrying the blue dress, a pair of blue silk slippers, and some assorted jewels.

Chapter 2: Lord Dudley
An hour and a half later the Queen, her esteemed councellor, Sir William, and her master of horse, Lord Dudley were pleasantly seated in her recieving room with some stew and ale.
The two men were debating about wars and Elizabeth was watching them closely, adding comments here and there.
"I do not think that the Spanish are such idiots as to attack now."
"I disagree," Sir William responded, "I think Phillip is quite offended that Her Majesty has turned down his request of marriage."
"That is no reason to start a war. I believe that Phillip will wait until we are unsuspecting" Lord Dudley replied.
"I believe that it all depends on how taken he was with Her Majesty."
"If it depended on that they would have attacked the minute His Majesty could round the troups."
Elizabeth laughed lightly
"Do not flatter me so, Robin."
"Ahh, but you deserve it, Your Majesty."
Elizabeth smiled at him and sipped her ale. She downed the last of it and wiped her mouth with a napkin.
"I believe I should enjoy to go hunting. Lord Dudley, I would like you to saddle my hunter and gather my hunting equipment. I expect you to prepare yourself as well.
As for you, Sir William, I will see you at the privvy council meeting."
Elizabeth walked out of the room and toward her quarters.

"Get out of here you filthy pesant!" Elizabeth heard one of her guards speaking
"But I need to speak with the Queen!" He was answered by a voice of a young girl. Most likely between the ages of 10 and 13
"Then do it when the queen is recieving! As of the moment she is breaking her fast and does not wish to be disturbed."
"That depends on who is here to call on me." Elizabeth walked up to the guard.
"What is all this commotion about?"
"Your Majesty. This pesant wishes to speak with you, but I have told her that you are not recieving and she is protesting my statement."
"I believe that it is my decision when I do and do not recieve. And right now I think that I shall recieve this girl."
"Yes Your Majesty."
"Come on in dear." The queen said kindly to the frightened girl.
The guards opened the door and the two walked inside.
"Maria, please fetch us some hot ale and scones." Elizabeth told a nearby lady-in-waiting.
"Yes Your Majesty." The lady replied with a curtsy.
"Kat please let no one enter my chambers. I wish to have some privacy."
"Yes Your Majesty." Kat curtsied and went off to tell the ladies to leave and relay the Queen's message to the guards.
Elizabeth sat in a comfortable blue silk chair and motioned for the astonished girl to take the green satin seat across from her's.
Maria entered with the ale and scones and set them on a table between the chairs.
"Thank you Maria, dear."
"It was my pleasure Your Majesty." Then she curtsied and left with all the other maids.
Then Elizabeth reached for a mug of hot ale and a scone.
"Tell me your name, dear."
After a long pause the girl finally answered,
"My name is Mary Seymour."
Elizabeth stared at her for a moment.
"You do not mean...? You could not possibly mean...? Catherine Parr's child?"
The girl gave a small nod.
"Oh my darling! I had thought you dead!" Elizabeth wiped a tear from her eye.
"I have not seen you since that dreadful day when poor Thomas died and they sent you to live with the Duchess of Sufolk! My dear, dear Mary. You were such a sweet babe. I remember you well. I would sit in the nursery and sing to you while playing the lute. Then I would play with you. And I would take you into the garden and we would sit on a blanket and I would talk to you about what a nice life you would have. ... A life that you could have had if it hadn't been for me."
Elizabeth broke down crying.
"What are you talking about Your Majesty? How could you, a girl of about 15 then, have ruined my life?"
"It was my fault, all my fault." Elizabeth sobbed.
"How?"
"I killed your mother, and in doing so, your father as well."
"But my mother died after having me when she was too old, how could that have been your fault?"
"My dear child. I must show you something."
Elizabeth got up and walked over to the wall near her chair. To Mary it looked like an ordinary wall, but Elizabeth apparently knew something about it.
She counted five blocks up from the ground and then two blocks over and removed the big grey stone from the wall.
She reached her hand inside the opening and pulled something out.
"Ah-ha."

The queen brushed the cobwebs off the object then gently blew on it to remove the rest of the dust.
"I can tell that you are wondering what this is."
Mary gave a small nod.
"It is my diary. I kept it from a few months before my father died until it was filled. Which was sometime near the end of my brother's reign." She said the last part as if she were about to cry but then proceeded with a normal tone.
"Most of the entries are from the time in which I lived with your parents. Which is to say my stepmother and Lord Thomas. Now I have a bit of a story to tell you, if you should wish to hear it."
"Oh please tell me!"
"Very well. When your mother married my father I was around your own age. I had begun to develope some feelings for my brother, Edward's, uncle Thomas. And to me it seemed that he had these same feelings for me. Little did I know, he had feelings for my new stepmother, Catherine, as well. Neither of us acted on these feelings, besides him giving me small gifts and other things an uncle might do to a niece. But when my father died, I was near the age of marrying. And I knew that Thomas knew this. I could see him glancing at me and trying to work something out in his mind. I also would see his eyes dart from my person to Catherine, and then get that same thoughtful look.
Soon he married Catherine and I was invited to come a live with them. I agreed immediately.
All was well, and Thomas and I would play little flirting games. He would pick me up and spin me around in the corridors and we would play chase and tag in the gardens. Catherine always looked on it as an uncle and a niece playing together. But I saw it as more, and Thomas did too. Soon chase would result in the winner getting a kiss in my case, or if Thomas won he would give me small caresses. Here read this entry."
Elizabeth handed the interested Mary the open diary.

As Mary silently read the entry Elizabeth brought up the memory in her mind. She could remember it as if it were yesterday. Her newly womanized body clad in a new saphire blue dress embeded with rubys and red embroidery.
She was out in the garden with Catherine and Thomas, Catherine was about 5 months along in her pregnancy and encouraged Elizabeth and Thomas to play.
They obliged. Thomas pulled out the ribbon that held her head piece on releasing her red-gold locks so they could cascade down her back. He snatched up the headpiece and began to run down the path to their favorite part of the garden.
Elizabeth quickly got up and chased after him. She soon ran past the bench underneath the tree where their games usually ended and he grabbed her by the waist as she did so.
He pulled her to the tree and put her back against it, coming up in front of her. He slid one hand to her waist and another on her neck. Then he gave her a peck on each cheek and a few on the lips before she pulled his head toward her and forced him to give her a good and passionant kiss.
Her hands soon encircled his neck and he pulled her slightly away from the tree so he could weave his though her beautiful hair. After a few moments she pulled away.
"What is it my darling?" He asked her, sounding confused, she usually held their kiss for longer.
She didn't answer, just sat on the bench.
"Elizabeth, dear, what is the matter?" He asked again, coming to kneel below her.
She turned her head slightly to the side.
He reached his hand up and placed it on her thigh.
"Please tell me what I have done to offend you."
She turned her head back to face him.
He rubbed her thigh gently.
She smiled slightly.
He brought his other hand back and began to caress both legs in the same fashion. His hands moved slowly upward and then she stood, allowing him to caress her buttox and waist.
The as he moved for her chest she pulled away.
"Until next time." She smiled, grabbed her head piece, and began to walk sedately back to where Catherine was sitting and reading.
Mary closed the book.
"But I still don't understand how this affected my mother's death."
"You will understand after you read more entries. But now it is time for my meeting with the privvy council. Where do you live, dear?"
"That's just it. I don't live anywhere. I came to court hoping you could help me."
"Well then I shall. You may have a place as a maid of honor. Let me just tell Kat and have her prepare you a bed."
"Thank you ever so much, Your Majesty!"
"You're welcome, dear. Now run off to the kitchen and get something to eat, you look thin as a rail!"
"Yes mame."
Mary curtsied and scurried out the door, leaving Elizabeth to place the diary back into it's hiding place.

During the council meeting Elizabeth couldn't concentrate. She kept thinking of Thomas. Dear, sweet Thomas. He had been her one true love. She told everyone that the reason she wouldn't marry was because of her comitment to England and not wanting a man to rule for her. But that was only a small part. The main reason was because her heart lay in the grave. In several graves to be precise. A fourth was scaterred between her sister Mary, her Father, her brother Edward, Katherine Howard, and Anne of Cleaves. Another fourth between her two beloved mothers, her birth mother, Anne Boleyn, and her most motherlike mother, Katherine Parr. The other half...It lay with Thomas.
Everyone thought she was in love with Robert Dudley. But she was not. He reminded her slightly of Thomas. And he was clearly in love with her. She enjoyed their flirtation.
But Thomas...He was so sweet. So kind. Then her brother, Edward had murdered him. That's all that beheading truly was, leagle murder. Edward had no reason to behead HIS OWN UNCLE! All he did was think about marriage to Elizabeth, and apparently that's treason.
She never quite forgave Edward...She pretended like she had no idea of Thomas' intentions, and that his death ment nothing to her, but it did. It ment so much. She couldn't help but love Edward, he was so loving. But she had a small bit of her that felt resentment for him.
But she had to be queen. She had to be a loved queen. She had been born to be queen. She had a determination that was inheirited from her mother. One of the only apparent things. Her looks clearly came from her father, but her mind, oh her mind. That came from her mother. Most people tried to say that her determination, stubborness, temper, and cleverness came from her father. But she knew they came from her mother. Her mother had been a low born partial noble. She was a howard, but by her mother, not her father. And she had fought her way to the throne. Overcoming Katherine of Aragon. She did not know whether Katherine's marriage to her father was truly illegitimate or not. But I know that her mother's marriage to her father was. Because, even if Katherine's marriage was legitimate, her father still made himself leader of the church which means that he could make divorce an acceptable thing.

"Kat, dear, would you please tell Lady Mary that I wish to speak with her?"
"Yes, right away, Your Majesty."
"Thank you."
Kat scurried off to find Lady Mary and Elizabeth walked over to the loose brick in the wall and pulled out the diary. She sat in her nice chair and had a maid bring some ale and small cakes. Then she waited for Mary to arrive. After a few moments she slipped in quietly curtsying three times as she approached.
"Have a seat, dear."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
"Would you care for a cup of ale?"
"Yes please, Your Majesty."
"Here you are." She handed Mary a cup.
"Have a few cakes as well." She offered her the plate.
Mary selected a cake and took a small bite.
"Are we to read out of your diary again, Your Majesty?"
"Not today, dear, in good time. However I wish to speak a bit. I need to speak these thoughts out loud to someone I can trust. None is better to speak to then a child."
Mary nodded, a bit confused.
"There is no difference between beheading someone and murdering them, except that beheading is not frowned on by society. Which makes no sense to me at all. Beheading is just the acceptable way of murdering someone. It seems that all those whom I love are murdered in some way by someone they loved, or who loved them. Take Anne of Cleaves, for example, she died because she was alone, because my father turned her away. Or my father, he murdered him self. He murdered him self with his infidelity and love of women. My sister Mary was murdered by her husband, because he was not faithful and ignored her for most of the time. My cousin, Katherine Howard, she was beheaded by my father, as was my mother." The queen took a deep breath and continued.
"Thomas, dear Thomas, was murdered by his own nephew, my brother, Edward." She took an even larger breath this time before continuing.
"And your mother was murded by Thomas and myself." The queen sighed heavily and rested her head on her arm. After a long time, she raised her head again.
"You may go now."
"Yes Your Majesty."
Mary curtsied three times and backed out of the door, leaving Elizabeth slumped in her chair, looking much older then her 28 years.

Elizabeth began to doze, falling into a world, unknown to her for 13 years.
There was Thomas, he looked at her with eyes hardened by desire, his face filled with love. And she, being the foolish girl that she was, gazed back in awe. Everything seemed so perfect. Catherine was gone, Edward was becoming sicker and sicker, and Mary was seeming so much older then 32. Elizabeth and Thomas, two peas in a pod. They were so alike. Both were ambitious beyond control, jokers, and had dashingly good looks. They gazed into eachother's eyes, drawing closer and closer together, and then they kissed. Magically. They had kissed before, many a time, but now, it was better, more alive, more loving. They pulled away and their eyes met again.
"Elizabeth, I love you."
"Oh Thomas, I love you too. I always have."
They smiled, interlaced fingers, and went to do what they knew they had too. They escaped to her bedroom and spent the most magical hour of her life there. He pushed her onto the bed and fell on top of her, smothering her, but in a good way. they rolled over so she was on top and he slid his hands up her body to the nape of her neck-
"Your Majesty? Are you there?"
Elizabeth woke, aggravated. Robin had come calling. She knew what he wanted. And she would give it to him. And let him think that he was her first. That he had made the rumors true. When infact, it had been Thomas. Of course no one ever assumed she and Thomas had had an affair, where as everyone knew she and Robin were having one.
"Coming Robin." She walked over to the door and let him in.
As soon as he closed it, he feasted his eyes upon her. He looked her up and down, from her jeweled slippers, to her 14 inch waist, to her plump breasts peaking out from the pink silk, to her head, where she was removing her head piece to let her hair flow down her back, like he loved. He pounced. Wild with desire. He had her clothes off and pushed her onto the bed before she could say a word. He stripped his own clothes off and came after her. Elizabeth could not have stopped him, even if she had wanted to.
