Ok I am finished with the building and converting of the Land Carrier. Well atleast done as for now.
I have primered it and will start to paint it.
Here is a shot of what it ended up looking like all finished and primed. (can you say thats one mean side shot!)
Front top
corner top
Ok and this is a really cool shot showing the front doors open and the hangar lights on.
close up view into the hangar bay and lights. And the cool thing about the lights. Thanks to Hobbes there on magnetic switches. So I take a side bolter gunner off of one side and the lights on that side turn off. I take the gunner off the other side and the other side of the lights turn off. Place them back on and back on comes the lights... How cool is that. Thanks alot Hobbes!
Ok I think it looks good enough to start painting her. So know in the next few posts I will update how the painting is going.

Thanks LT. Ya now that shes primered you cant tell whats bits and what not she just looks complete. And all the details you can even see just blend in and tie her all together.
Well I cant paint vehicles as good as you but I will atleast get her done.

Woohoo.
Immense.
That's what pops up in my mind when I saw her the very first time. Great model - as ever.
But...
Yes, there are some things I think you could improve.
1. Where is the control station / bridge etc? I mean - where is the driver ( better drivers ) seated? I think a cool control station ( with crew pits ) would fit perfectly. Maybe you could make it look like some small cathedral.
2. The side turrets are nice, excellent. But those one top are - sorry to say that - useless. Especially those in the middle can only fire straight forward ( otherwise they would destroy other turrets ). Ever thought about One ( or maybe two ) big turrets instead of many small ones? Something like a battleship's cannon turret. Hey, this is your DeathStarTank, so give it a SuperLaserCannon.
3. How about adding some AA weapons and some really nasty weapons on it ( like these new Whirlwind launchers )? This is THE masterpiece tank ever - and you only add some common weapons on it ( high numbers, but does quantity outweight quality? ).
4. This monster is a fine tank - but unfortunately it does not seem to be a larger LandRaider. Where are access doors to the sides? And all I can see is that it allows other vehicles to board it ( brilliant idea ). But this will leave it "vulnerable" since no troops are carried. Think about this.
5. I see a Land Speeder. Cool thing. But how about allowing some more vehicles land on it? Or allow some jumppack troops to start and land from it? And besides - the control station seems somewhat small in order to deal with starts and landings as does the landing platform. Great idea, but you could take it to its max.
I hope you are not worried that I gave you this list of "improvements". I like this "thing" ( and I am sure that I will never ever build something like this - and if it won't be that superb ), but I think you lost the "objectivity". That's why good ol' Dloo'al shows up and talks to fellow GD. Dloo'al wants to have this thing GD'ish - that's all.
Once it is finished please sum up all weapons, equipment, troops and vehicles it carries. maybe I am crazy enough to create some stats and rules for this "thing".

Dloo'al as always no worries I appreciate the input. The top control deck is inside with all the systems telling them what to do. The commander is inside. He of course has to have his own lasccannons to shoot so he feels important.
But the sides do have every other door to climb in and out.
But no worries like I said I like hearing from you.
And as far as painting it took one can of primer grey and half of can primer black. Then I am trying to airbrush but it keeps jamming up.
Its hard to get it to do what I want and not get plugged up. I cant even get water to flow threw it very well.

Well after oh I dont know 5+ hours I managed to get my base coat done.
I used an AirBrush and I know from this photo you cant tell but I used nearly 7 colors of paint to do this color and shadow and add depth just the way I wanted it.
I started with Black primer then Dark brown all the way up to Desert Sand.
And there you have it. Know a heck of alot of hand painting and brushing but alteast my base color is on and I think its good.

So far so good.
But you have such a wide space ( the front of that monster ) - why not being creative? Paint a scenery on it, so really long text or add some eagles on it. Whatever you do, just don't leave it blank!
Such a massive and glorious vessel needs some imposing colour scheme. How about golden screws? And some silver for the pipes. I think you get the idea. Man, this is the greatest war machine the Marines have ( in every way ) - so they should express their pride and its uniqueness!

Hey Greydeath,
if your airbrush keeps jamming, (assuming your using citadel paints) i'd thin them out with quite a bit of water (obviously not too much ) and do multiple strokes. I do also think you should do some "pretty designs" on the front of that beast (maybe with a sencil?) Whatever, its up to you. Good luck man!

If you look in WD US 306, there is an awesome freehand detail section. It would be perfect for your uber death tank. Im still going to go with what I said on the B&C: Get a mini cd player in there so it can play "bodies" by Drowning Pool when it crosses the battlefield.

Oh that was you! Thats soo cool I wish you would have told me that sooner and I could have worked it in under my 4 engines! And especially "Let the bodies hit the floor!" Perfect.... I love the idea.... but kinda to late to do.... I could put it inside when the troops are not in.
As for the front end a buddy of mine is working out an imperial eagle to cover the hole front just like the landspeeder etc have.
It is going to be like dry cracked desert flooring he thinks. Hes still kicking around ideas.
But I will add that as soon as I get it.
But ya took it to the hobby shop and it carried my army perfectly.
Very cool.
Really happy with it.
I am going to post a wip of it and my Landmate main battle tank tonight I hope. had to go get it out of the Hobby shops case.

Yep, comes among very, very well ! As I see it, I don't think that you have to do a lot of freehands on this monster. In fact, imho, this would not fit very well with your army theme. Eventually, it's your baby, so do as you want.
Speaking of airbrush, the main thing is to dilute paint . For GW I use a 60 % water/ 30 % paint mix and for Prince August (same as Valejo) which is richest in pigments a 75/25 mix.
If your airbrush starts to spittle (wording ?), chance is that paint starts to dry on the airbrush's needle. So you have to clean it time to time.
Finally, while I use a black undercoat for my minis, I prefer a white or gray one for the vehicles. Before to apply base color, I underline every angle with a very diluted black to obtain a pre-umber effect.

Wow Bearded snot thank you for all that great feedback and help I appreciate that alot.
and I ended up running my paints at about 90/10 serious no joke...... It was in the one hundreds when I painted so drying and the spittle on the tip was way bad. I had to clean every couple minutes of painting or so.
Bummer.
Well here is some just updated photos not really anymore painting that you can probable make out form this far away.
But you have the top section showing how troops can actually stand on it. My commander is up there and what not.
And here my Landmate Main Battle Tank for my Desert Eagles. Shown here next to it for a size comparrison. Remember the Landmate Battle tank is nearly the size of 4 Landraiders squared.
And here shows my 6 Gun Jeeps and 4 Predators inside no problems...

Sounds like your air pressure might not be high enough. I use a compressor, and have never had a problem. The air pressure cans are worthless...
I use an air compressor also. And I run about 35 psi. The main thing was I was painting from about 1pm tell about 5 or so and it was so hot at 1 it kept drying my paint onto the tip of the air gun and jamming the needle and what not.
I use water base paint and I had to actually go about 90% water to 10 of paint to actually get it to paint.
Later around 5 when I was on my about 7th color and oh like 21st coat of paint it was doing alot better because it had cooled down to like 95 degrees here in the desert in the garage.
I think its just so hot I need to get out there and paint sooner.
I will try again with my Crisis Suit and the AirBrush and try my theory and see how it does?

one thanks for the invite to this site
Second I thought up some fluff sorta anime-ish Most marine chapters have a Fortress monistary right? Your Imperial Land Carriers are company carriers for your chapter they roam not only there home world but the galaxy at large with these bad boys and First company would then have to be twice as big and remains on the home planet it is more or less and mobile Hive city..... So when the Desert Eagles are called away from there home planet a company is loaded into this thing moved up to there strike cruiser or battle Barg and off they go to which ever theater they are working from. and there the only chapter who fields them. I would need some basic info for founding and so on but could right up some fluff for this thing and your army if you would like? I must say it does need a more impressive name but it's your baby.

Why not glue sand on the it? its probally been speeding around this desert planet and some sand would hav gotten onto the sides of it and around where the cornors and recess's are...

You know what would be cool?
To get it modeled for DOW!!! It'll be interesting if it even fits on the land scap lol or it is the landscape, or it just drives over everything... lol
Now, I see quite a flaw in the creation. If you played it in a game, if the enermy come from one andgle, you won't be able to use all of your guns...

Just to let you know, persuant to discussions with some of the designers from GW that were at the Chicago Games Day, this partiuclar conversion (and in fact most of your landmate tanks) are well known around the GW design studio and they definately know who you are Greydeath.
One of the designers actually seemed genuinely impressed by your conversions. I would consider this a high honor and wanted to pass it along.

I would be quite surprised ( and feel a bit affronted ) if the GW design team did not think highly of GD's efforts.
I only see one problem with the whole concept, though. I sure wont be able to afford a resin-cast GreyDeath original. I'm not sure FW makes vehicles as large and, well, UBER as GD.
