Bitter snow fell down, falling from the heavens like leaves in Yan Forest. The sun was still rising in the sky, and Nyx couldn't figure out why she was here. She had seemed to be drawn here, the taste of blood growing stronger in her mouth as she had neared this white clearing. She still craved the taste of warm blood, the feel of another creature's breathing between her teeth. She wanted to see what battle was like.
Her first battle, she was sure, would be an easy win. She had gained much experience from hunting and treating everything as a target. She knew she had powerful jaws already, and was looking to increase her bite strength by using it in a life-or-death situation.
She stared out at the fields, watching the snow fall. She waited for a challenger to show. Anyone, anyone at all. She didn't care who it was, as long as it was a alive. She raked her claws in the ground and lashed her tail. "Whosoever dares to fight me, show your face," she growled loudly across the land. The snow fell faster and faster and she strained her ears, anticipating anything that might come her way.

Saqui froze. She pressed her body into the snow, desperately trying to bury herself like an overgrown lungfish. The bold part of her said; Why don't you go out and fight? Birds can fly, can't they? The sensible one retorted, This one can't do either, so it's better to wait out that mousebrained felin. Anyway, who would hurt such a lovable little Hippogryph? I'm sure she'll muster the pity to leave her alone, even if she does find her.
She spread out her wings so they were flat as a tabletop beneath the snow. Saqui couldn't help but know she could be using those wings to soar away from her attacker instead of ruining her dignity where she was. Maybe she should let herself get killed because without flight, there was no point in being a Hippogryph.

Nyx looked out at the ground again. Had that snow just moved? She shook her head, surely she was loosing her mind. She stepped forward and hoped the snow would slow down soon. She could barely see a thing, and those were no battle conditions. She stepped closer to the mound of snow she was now sure had moved. Then she took a daring move.
Slowly, as if in slow-motion, she lifted her hoof into the air above the mound. "Come out, come out, wherever you are..." she said, knowing that something had to be there. She gently lowered her hoof, allowing the creature to feel what it was without her actually stepping on it.

Saqui stayed perfectly still. As in, perfect-perfect. She didn't even dare to breathe. She could feel the hoof, knowing that even a single breath could tell the felin she was there, and then she'd be buzzardbait.
Saqui's best bet was to stay very still and wait until the felin had decided nothing was where she was and gone to go somewhere else and do something, well, anything, as long as it wasn't bothering Saqui.

Nyc couldn't believe that the thing still hadn't moved again. She snorted to herself and lowered her hoof closer. Closer and closer and closer it came.... She pressed her hoof down into the creature and waited for a yelp or scream or whinny. Anything, really. Anything to show her that it really was there.

Saqui felt something on her wingtip. Must be Nyx. She still stayed perfectly still, not reacting in any way. Just laying there.
She took one more silent breath before getting back to her 'hibernation mode'. She twitched a little in her tail, but luckily, it was beyond detection range of the felin.
