It was late afternoon when they arrived, as in Raijin and Nyx at the edge of the lake. They did an aweful lot of stuff on the way, and he nearly feel down a ditch while tagged Nyx and said she was it. Now, covered in sticky rotting leaves and mud, insects and everything that you could find on the ground of Yan Forest was proudly assorted on his back, hind-legs and neck. He had to shake off a few too as they landed on his face. The sun made the water a pinky colour as it set, and he tippy-toed closer.

"Come on!" he signaled Nyx over, his voice as soft as a wisper. He slowly scanned the surrondings, seeing nothing, he burst into full speed and leapt into the lake. He submerged, gazing quitely if any of 'them' were swimming in the water, but as his vision was blurred, and needed to breathe, he popped to the surface.

He chuckled, and whinnied to her to come over. He was ready to dip his head under again if she would make a bomb of a splash. He paused, just letting his eyes soften into her body. He was with the best freind (and mate) in the world. Just trying to find her better side was an adventure itself, and he found himself closer to it every morning.

Nyx burst through the last leaves of Yan Forest. She didn't even look around, she wasn't worried about the owners of Shenshi Lake attackng them. She knew she could defend herself against dumb half-fish. She quickened her pace, gaining as much speed as possible. She had started planning her jump at the first scent of the lake and, as she grew nearer and nearer to it with every step, the pieces of her plan just seemed to fall into place.

She knew she was running as fast as, if not faster, than she had ever run in her life. She aimed for a short ledge that hung over the lake and prepared to launch herself off the edge. The ground beneath her began to thin, she felt the edge of the ledge with her toe, her muscles bunched, and she propelled herself forward, pushing off of the ledge as hard as she could. For a split-second she felt as if she was flying, and then...

SPLASH!!!

She opened her eyes underwater and looked around. Fish darted this way and that, surprised by the sudden splash. She paddled her paws (and hoof) and soon had her head above water. She looked at where Raijin had been. "And that's how it's done," she said, holding her chin high as if she was the best diver in Zanzira. She smiled and breathed in the smell of the water. She couldn't remember the last time she had swam. This was like a dream. She enjoyed swimming more than any other activity, even hunting, and this made her happier than she could recall being in a long time.

His head burst from the water, he gushing for breath, and the water from his dark mane flicked everywhere. His large paws started to thread the surface water slowly, as the last ripples of Nyx's huge splash started to sink into the water, shaken by Raijin's head coming out from the depths. He wondered, if he had Hippocami blood within him. He recollected his thoughts, and duckdives down. His sight was blurry at first, but after the eye got used to it, he started to swim besider Nyx, smilling. The bubbles popped out of his mouth as he paddled.

He gave a little giggle, which was muffled by air escaping and the water capturing the sound waves that echoed from within. It was like magic in the water, and soon discovered the way he could breathe without fully lifting his horse head out. As he ran out of air, Raijin lifted his nostrils to the surface, as his neck sprouted up and his legs skimming the water to keep up. After a deep breath, he submerged once more to contiune swimming beside his mate. It was better than anything he had done before, and very frightening (though he did not show it). His mane started to untangle all his knots that had made their way into it. He felt alive again, more alive when he ran off from his abusive family, more alive when he jumped.

Alive..

Nyx breathed in deep and dove down. The water felt cool against her skin as it made its through her fur. Glimmering scales flashed in the darkening sunlight, reflecting around the lake like a disco ball. She paddled up again and breathed in deep, preparing to play her favorite game. She dove back down and flicked her tail playfully, paddling toward a small school of fish.

A clump of seaweed provided camouflage. She paddled closer slowly. She could feel the need to resurface sneaking up on her. Quickly, she rushed out of the weeds and charged at the fish. She didn't kill any of them, just strike them with her paws to stun them. Fish floated around her, paralyzed momentarily. Their scales shimmered more brilliantly, just like she remembered. Just like when she was younger, when she had lived in the lake and learned the tales of her ancestor by heart. She left herself float upwards and took a small breath. Her back end floated upwards until it was level with the front. She floated there, resting on her back, and flicked her gaze back and forth, from the land to the water to the sky.

She looks busy... but I need to tell her... Raijin was doubting himself again, it was common of him to do so, but this was different. He was going to tell her something that was tangled up in his mind more than a leaf in his fresian hair. He paddled over, fully surfaced. Opening his mouth stubbornly, trying to hold what words he was going to say.

Nyx? Confessions often began like that, followed by the stuttering, the quivering of the lips. I'm going to fight ...br...Brownfang ...tommorow for the leading position of ... of.. Yan Forest... he doesn't know I'm living there at all.

He could feel his better side shaking him furiously. Yes, he was planning to fight the leader of Yan Forest for many days, but what did he look like. He imagined a burly large figure, half cougar standing infront of him baring fangs.

I'll make you queen of, you won't be bossed around by anybody else... Ughh, why did he say that came the side that Raijin forced to ingore. It was like holding back a hungry elephant. He lay his head down (just above the water), his black hair flopping everywhere. Welll?...

Then, came a pat on his nose; rain. It began to fasten it's rate hitting his nose and hair, and the water. The drops rippled everywhere, and the afternoon seemed like night. A odmen perhaps? No, it was a sign. Tommorow, the fight would be hard, but worth it...

Nyx lifted an eyebrow when he called her name. When she heard what he had to say, she stared and him. Her eyes were slits, not legible. Her thoughts then began to rain down on her, just like the rain. The sky darkened even farther and she felt a cold chill run down her spine. Whether it was from her mate's idea or the rain, she did not know.

She looked at him and wondered whether this was the best idea she had ever heard, or a sure death sentence. Surely he's insane! Brownfang is part tiger, for The Core's sake! She avoided the subject, "Let's get out of this rain," she said, looking up at the sky.

She shivered as she swam the the lake's shore. The rain pounded on her back and she picked up the pace to the trees, where the rain would be slowed. She looked up at the canopy and waited for Raijin. She didn't know what she could do to stop him if he'd already made up his mind. But she couldn't see how he could win. Bless his heart, he's too shy for his own good sometimes. And then she knew what she could do if his heart really was set on this.

He clambered up the shore, shaking his mane (if it made any difference, he was getting wetter than when he was in the lake), and cantered after her. Of course, you wouldn't of needed a mind reader to tell what she was thinking, Raijin was too. Yet, he remembered his old days, before he ran from his father's herd, him teaching him to fight. He knew the moves, but never wasn't strong enough to handle them, maybe just maybe he could pull this off. Surely he wasn't that big for half puma.

"I'm scared too, but I don't wanna be nothing anymore. I can pull this off... I... think."

He trotted, into the border. He had a feeling that they weren't alone. He looked around, swallowing his fear, retaining it deep within his throat. Stubbornly he stepped on a twig, and created such a noise, and a pair of amber eyes appeared, followed by a low growl. Raijin snarled back, and his tail went up, fluffed up more than a persian cat.

A great bulk leap at him, the sliver grey fur was all that Raijin could see. He landed infront of Raijin, who was now snarling. It was Brownfang, must of done a patrol to see if everyone was safe.

"I heard every word." Brownfang snarled deeply.
"Glad of it. Who needs to fight in the grounds anyway?" Raijin taunted back, leaping on Brownfang's rough back.

Brownfang, did have the upper hand of size, he was about a 1/3 more of what Raijin was, but he wasn't as swift, or as smart. He felt Raijin's sharp teeth grip and oozed blood out. Out of pain, Brownfang bucked him off, he thuding on the ground beside him, and Brownfang bared his cruel white fangs at him.

Raijin got up quickly, snarling back. His right paw throbbed with pain, and leapt at him once again, this time at his hindquarters. He missed though, but began to dig his teeth into his fetlock and leg. It seemed Brownfang was bleeding once more, and Raijin got up again, his paw rose with pain, bearing not to put it down. He was going to finish him off, surely the leader would spare him.

Weak Talk! It sounded like his father, as Brownfang loomed over him, snarling to finish it off. Youse got to get him where 'e's weak. His underbelly!

Then, as if he had the strength of the goddess of cats began to tear at his belly. Brownfang started to claw at him, leaving a large gash on his back. Raijin then bit hard, twisted, and with a groan of pain, Brownfang collasped, fainting on the wet earth. He was breathing.

"Come on Nyx. You won't have to worry about 'im anymore. Or should I say, my queen?" His voice was weak, and he was bleed, he spat out the blood in his mouth, and limped closer. "Just... get some bloodmoss..." He was covered in blood, some his, some of his defeated opponent. It began to wash off in the rain, leaving puddles of diluted water, mixed with warm blood.

Nyx watched on as the fighting took place. She dug her claws into the wet grass with every parry, every blow. She held back the urge to jump into the battle and make it a three-way. Blood lust ran cold in her veins and she need not choose sides in a battle. Whichever side won, she wanted to be on it. Loyalties meant nothing to her in a heated battle were Rage filled the brain even more heavily than normal.

And then, it was over. She watched as Brownfang fell, his sides still moving despite the wounds Raijin had inflicted. The urge to deal the fatal blow swelled in her. She felt her paws move toward him, but was awoken from her deep-Rage by a voice. She understood who had said it only after she took her eyes away from the other creature.

Raijin. The name echoed in her mind. He has won.... She looked at him again and replayed what he had said. Come on Nyx. You won't have to worry about 'im anymore. Or should I say, my queen? The thought of how this act had been unnecessary was the only thought echoing in her mind. She had never lived in fear of Brownfang. She hadn't avoided him specifically. She just avoided everyone in general. But then she looked at him. Spitting blood and limping.

She blinked her eyes to hide what she had just been thinking. He never needed to know that she hadn't desired power, just pain. She glanced down at his wounds. Her mind was blank. She hadn't been trained in medicine, just fighting. She inflicted wounds, not cured them. And "bloodmoss"? What in Zanzira is bloodmoss?!

She nodded and convinced herself that she would know it when she saw it. She turned around and began sniffing through the forest. Anything to seal the wounds, she thought. What can seal a bleeding wound? Or stop a stream of rain? She looked around for something that absorbed the rain, or made it stop.

A spider's web hung from a tree branch not far away and Nyx remembered how it stuck in her fur for days. She jumped and wrapped it around her hoof. With a gimp she walked around the tree. Maybe bloodmoss is like normal moss? She found no treasure on the other side. She started to walk back, not wanting to leave him there long.

Nyx bent over Raijin and licked the blood from the deep scratches. Then she pushed the webs down onto the cuts, not too hard to squeeze out any more red. She hoped that cleaning them and sealing them with webs was enough. She didn't know if or how bloodmoss was different than regular moss.

Damn, Bloodmoss is only found where my Aunt lived He had lived in that grassy, half mountain slope for way too long.

Raijin could feel his nerves starting to send sharp pain through-out his body, but that wasn't worrying him. Unable to move, as he was being treated, he focus his eyes on the drool that was leaking out of Brownfang's mouth. It was a red-ish blue, mixed with blood. He had seen something so similar back in where he used to live, at that hill. Strange.

His aunt was adept at making brews and potions, Raijin was only a young nearly a year old, helping out his aunt. Raijin found that his father would leave him alone, which meant not forcing him into training of a warrior. His sister, or his aunt kept him at bay, Raijin's aunt, Šárka tended to sick and injured members of the herd; Something that he enjoyed helping. It was like any day that the cubs came in, all four of them. They were mad, and had rage like symptoms, but their parents, nor their ancestors had such a disease. After their 'attack' so to speak, which lead them into a fighting spasm, they clawed, hissed (or tried too) and then were knocked down by a poke at the underbelly...

Raijin stood almost still, in his trance but he pushed his mental power more, blinked and saw it contiune, the haunting memories...

Then they went to sleep. Šárka placed one in a bed like dug out in her cave, made of mud shelf-ings. The cub lay there almost peacefully, then she worked a mixture of potions on the remaining cubs and placed it on the forehead. The first one died and Šárka ran for a glass jar (which was the few that survived over the course of thousands of years from the old world) and placed it over the dead cubs head, a strange blue 'mist' crept inside. She quickly put the bronze lid over, warning Raijin if he ever opened it, he would died like the cub there. She added this root to the potion, which was called soul-re-heal. Šárka used to give it to patients who were grieving a loved one, or went psycho. She did the same thing to the second cub, which died as well. She mixed this strange blue power into it, then rubbed it one it's forehead, and grabbed yet another jar and placed it on the head, a blue mist arose, and clanked the lid on, and put it next to the other jars. The cub, awoke, returning to normal again. Raijin sat still, with a smile on his face, his aunt had got rid of it. Then she raced to get the final cub, did the same as she did with the third, and the cub was normal again. She collected the jars and buried them deep in the floor of her cave. Again she told Raijin never to dig them up, or worse break the jars. His auntie, wrote down the cure on a old stone tablet and marked it with a X...

Raijin woke from his trance, the webs that Nyx had placed in his cuts were healing well. He moved and backed away from Brownfang, as long as the mixture wasn't placed on his head, the rage wouldn't leave it's host. It was a rare type, but someone must of broken one of the jars. It used to control their bodies, sensing a spark of hate or anger. It would somehow seep into, then just take over completely. No wonder Brownfang's voice sounded different.

"Nyx, we need to head to the Tres Plains, quickly, I'll explain on the way.."
