Icesong, a female chill snow leopard, was sitting quietly near a rock by herself. She had never been near this many other animals, her mother died when she was very young and her father had been killed by a fire-cat. After walking for many days, she had finally found her way to this place, where females were claimed by males.
The blue rune-symbols on her fur glowed with frustration. She couldn't claim land for herself, just because she was female. Why should that have to be a rule! she thought. Females are just as capable as males. But she said nothing out loud, she knew it was best to just follow the rules and not cause trouble. She didn't want to start anything, so she decided she'd just go along with it. Icesong wasn't the kind of cat to attract trouble, she tried to be nice to everyone and just blend into the background. So she just sat, and waited for some male Ice-cat to notice her.

Icesong spun around to see an ice-wolf approach. It was the first time she had spoken to anyone since her father died.

"hello, Tone. My name is Icesong." she replied hesitantly. "I would come with you, of course. I want to be near others again. But I am a cat and you are a wolf. How would it work? I can't go to your land... can I?" the words all came out in a rush, in her eagerness to speak to someone again.

Icesong flicked her tail and looked away. She wanted desperately to go with the wolf, but how could she? He was a wolf! She sighed, her breath frozen and cold. "How can I come with you?" she asked.
