Title: Crimson Flecked Loneliness
Description: ~A Dragon's Search For A Mate~
Silverstreak - November 10, 2007 02:23 AM (GMT)
Dragonfly suddenly paused. A rock was beside another rock. He pawed at one, and then rolled it back in place. If only he fitted closely to another wolf as that rock fitted so perfectly with that other rock. He'd always been busy struggling with his father's treachery, and trying to push away that nagging ambition he always felt; so much, he'd never thought about love.
Dragonfly padded up to a hilltop, his head hanging low. He raised his head a little, his eyes filled with hope. He was in the Mate Finder area. Perhaps he would find the perfect she-wolf. Perhaps he wouldn't. Perhaps he was just wasting his time here, because he'd never find love.
Broken Song - January 3, 2008 09:43 PM (GMT)
Vaniqua noticed a fire wolf alone of the hill and she felt a sudden pang of loneliness. It was true, she didn't have any friends, because of her so called murderous ways, but who her they to question what she had been taught by her mother?
She sighed, pacing restlessly at the base of the hill, thoughts battling in her head. Go meet him, one said. Are you kidding? another protested, he'd think the same as the others do. You don't know until you try, the first insisted. A waste of time, the second howled.
Vaniqua gulped and slowly made her way up the hill, still unsure of what to do. In a matter of seconds, though, she found herself right behind him and she knew it was too late to turn back.
"Um...Hi?" she greeted uncertainly.
Silverstreak - January 5, 2008 04:26 AM (GMT)
Dragonfly's slim form slowly turned around to examine the she-wolf. A Lava Bender, lean as himself, fur dark as night. The two spirits lurking within his mind seemed to argue, his father screeching angrily while his mother spoke more kindly and gently with love for her son.
I knew he needed some love in his life, Butterfly sighed.
No! He's mine. This isn't right for him. He doesn't need love, he needs to pass on my blood. Thornfang growled.
Ignore him, Dragonfly. Talk to her!
No, kill her; she's not the right one to pass my blood.
Just don't listen to Thornfang! Here, I'll help you. I'll tell you what to say. Dragonfly decided to listen to her mother. He pushed Thornfang out of his mind with much effort. Say 'Helllo,' Butterfly coaxed.
"Hello," he barked cheerfully, echoing his mother.
Wonderful, she commented delightedly. Now wait for her reaction. You're doing fine.
Broken Song - January 14, 2008 12:59 AM (GMT)
Vaniqua felt slightly relieved that the wolf was actually going to talk to her after all. She dropped her burning eyes to her paws and greeted in a wavering voice, "Hello. I am known as Vaniqua." After a slight pause, she lifted her gaze to his.
Silverstreak - January 14, 2008 10:53 PM (GMT)
Now introduce yourself, coaxed Butterfly.
"I'm Dragonfly." He obeyed.
Good, keep on listening to me and it'll go perfectly.
Broken Song - January 16, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
Vaniqua gave a deep sigh of relief and felt her tensed muscles loosen. She shifted into a comfortable sitting position and gave up at the sky. bright stars were etched on black sky and she couldn't help but marvel at their beauty. "They remind me of long ago," she sighed, then realizing she had said it aloud, blushed fiercely.
Silverstreak - January 16, 2008 08:36 PM (GMT)
Take it nicely. Don't make fun of her, but speak your honest opinion.
"I... I agree." Dragonfly stuttered a little, but the stars truly did. However, they reminded him in a way that Vaniqua probably wasn't. They seemed to spin, to change, right before his eyes...
Broken Song - January 17, 2008 01:19 AM (GMT)
Vaniqua couldn't take her eyes off them, and they seemed to burn as intensely as the fire that burned above. "They do remind me..." she confirmed slowly. "of before...before they left me." she knew how ridiculous it might sound, but the star were the first things in her life she had seen. She had opened her firey eyes to the stars for the first time. So long it seemed...So long ago...
Silverstreak - January 17, 2008 08:35 PM (GMT)
The stars spun, not stopping, in Dragonfly's view. They reminded him of the awkward pattern of his life, his first moments, his heritage. For a moment he couldn't speak. Then, he flopped onto the grass, belly up, to gaze at the stars.
"Yes, m-my mother dissapeared before I ever opened my eyes. My father..." he trailed off. The Firefly didn't like to think about his murderous father.
Broken Song - January 17, 2008 11:18 PM (GMT)
Vaniqua knew better than to pry, but she was curious all the same. Looking down at Dragonfly, she murmered softly, almost to herslef. "My parents left me the moment I opened my eyes. A burden I was. A curse." She sighed and made a wistful smile. "Another wolf, a shadow one, took care of me. Showed me how to live. She...was...she was different. An outcast. She taught me ways...others despise..."
Silverstreak - January 19, 2008 04:20 AM (GMT)
Suddenly, the sky blackened. Dragonfly blinked; still, the sky became darker and darker until it was an eerie black. Just as unexpectedly, flame started to crash down from the sky.
Dragonfly got up with a start, eyes flaring with panic. Though he was a Fire wolf, immune to heat, it was terrifying. He dodged to one side as a blazing ball of flame nearly hit him.
Don't panic! Everything will be alright. The reassuring voice of his mother soothed inside his mind, but it only barely helped him, as he had detected her own sliver of fear.
Unwillingly, Dragonfly burst into flame. Realizing that he'd obtained his powerful form, he flitted about, dodging the rain of fire easily with his ability. Suddenly, Dragonfly remembered.
Vaniqua! She's a Lava Bender, and curse my flaming body, this isn't lava!
Broken Song - January 20, 2008 11:20 PM (GMT)
Vaniqua was startled when Dragonfly had burst into flame. Even she admitted it. But she was terrified when flaming comets or whatver they were had fallen from the sky. She didn't know how they got here or what they were. Just that she must flee. She stretched her bat-like wings and flapped hard to gain altitude. By now, even more flaming boulders were falling from above. Vaniqua tried desperatly to manauver around them but they fell frighteningly fast and she wasn't very agile in the air. "AHHHHH!" she cried as a tiny flaming piece of rocks hit her wing membrane. And burned through it. Vaniqua could only stare blankly in shock as a smoldering hole appeared where the rock had been. She would have forgotten to fly if it hadn't been a life and death decision.
Silverstreak - February 19, 2008 04:19 PM (GMT)
"Vaniqua! Over here!" Dragonfly jerked his burning muzzle towards a kopje of some sort. It was two medium-sized boulders, a little larger than himself, holding up a much larger rock to form a somewhat stable cave. Several flaming rocks had fallen onto the ruin and failed to go through- it could shelter the two Fire wolves from any harm whatsoever.
Dragonfly judged the distance between Vaniqua, he, and the kopje. About a hundred pawsteps, maybe a bit more. He dashed underneath it, his speed easily overcoming the distance, and urged her to do the same with his paws. By the content growl in his head, he decided Butterfly approved.
Broken Song - March 6, 2008 11:18 PM (GMT)
Vaniqua tore her eyes from her smoking wing and saw a glimspe of Firefly diving beneath a rock overhang of some sort. Another fireball shot passed her and she gave a yelp before flattening her wings to her sides and plummeting toward the ground. The firballs were still raining from the sky at alarming speeds and she knew she would only be safe once she reached Firefly. The ground came rushing up the meet her and she hastily extended her wings again and strained every muscle to make her descent slow down. She landed convienently close to the shelter and scrambled inside, watching with wide red eyes as the rain of fire continued to shatter the night sky.
Silverstreak - March 8, 2008 03:53 AM (GMT)
Fear filled the Firefly's eyes. He lowered his flame to get back to his normal self without sparks filling every space of air around him. Dragonfly whimpered and lay down, his bushy tail wrapped on top of his snout.
"What is it?" he asked Butterfly.
"I don't know. It's beyond my knowledge, Dragonfly."
Broken Song - March 8, 2008 05:46 AM (GMT)
Vanara could see Firefly's fear and shuffled closer to him, hoping the touch of her flank would help. She, too, could not supress a feeling of great panic welling up inside of her, however. She wondered fearfully how long the boulder's could possibly withstand the rocks of flame before they finally broke through.
Silverstreak - March 9, 2008 04:37 AM (GMT)
Dragonfly was comforted slightly, and didn't notice the soft growl of contentment in his head which belonged to Butterfly. Without even realizing it, he was doing exactly what she wanted him to do. What he was destined to do.
"I think the boulders will be able to stand it," he spoke. "They seem pretty strong to me." He offered a tiny lick of comfort to Vaniqua.
Broken Song - March 9, 2008 03:29 PM (GMT)
Vaniqua could help but feel a warm flowing sense of security and of being safe flood through her veins, making her give a long sigh, wether it be in relief or in content, even she didn't know. She rustled her torn wings slightly and raised her gaze once again the the sky. It just seemed so unbelievable that the whole world was almost literally falling apart. The rocks that lay on the grass now flared up and started a trail of crackling fire, which spread every direction and Vaniqua felt panic rise in her again. They might be safe from the rain of fire, but would they be able to evade the flames that now scorched the land? She asked Dragonfly if he thought so. "Would the ground flames reach us here?"
Silverstreak - March 21, 2008 07:01 PM (GMT)
"No.. at least not soon." The Firefly gulped. "We need to get to higher ground." Suddenly, he remembered the Hillhollow. He sometimes visited it- it was a cool, safe cave in the top of a hill, and if they went deep enough they'd be safe.
"Follow me!" He switched back to his flaming form and darted under a tree, waiting for Vaniqua to follow. Dragonfly's muzzle turned to the sky in worry.. would they make it to the Hillhollow?
Broken Song - March 24, 2008 04:23 PM (GMT)
Vaniqua nodded and followed, keeping one eyes on Dragonfly as the flaring wolf sped on ahead, and keep the other to the sky, watching for the flaming debris that could end her life painflly. In the midist of the chaos and the scorching heat, Vaniqua shivered. Never before had she thought she would fear fire, but now she was running for her life away from it.
Silverstreak - April 14, 2008 03:41 PM (GMT)
"I have a strategy," Dragonfly told her. "If we keep on taking shelter under things and darting along from one to the next, we should be able to make it. Still- take caution, and follow my every movement!" The Firefly dashed to a nearby boulder.
He scanned the horizon. The closest peice of shelter he could see along the way to the Hillhollow was an old elm, and it was a couple hundred metres away. Dragonfly prayed to Starpack- "Please, mother, let us make it peacefully!"
Broken Song - April 22, 2008 11:29 PM (GMT)
Vaniqua followed Dragonfly loyally to the boulder, her flaring eyes casting upward every few seconds to convince herself that the fireballs were not falling towards them. She tensed when she saw their next stop. The tree was farther away than she liked, but it was better shelter than the one she was currently under. Inhaling sharply, her muscles tightened and she waited warily for dragonfly's signal.
Silverstreak - April 23, 2008 08:39 PM (GMT)
A huge flaming rock larger than Dragonfly, Vaniqua, and the boulder was flying across the sky in the distance, with it a group of asteroids nearly as large. That concerned him, but he knew the longer he thought, the less chance they'd make it safely. The Firefly immediately burst to flame and darted through the air to the tree. Once, a boulder narrowly missed him, and the air disturbance it caused made him flinch.
"Vaniqua, quick! There's a huge one coming up!" He was soon in his normal version, below the tree. He doubted the Lava Bender would make it without at least getting close to one of the boulders, but hey, doubt didn't mean that was going to happen.
Broken Song - May 7, 2008 10:35 PM (GMT)
Vaniqua gulped down the bitter bile now rising in her throat and bit back the fear grasping at her. She dove toward Dragonfly, trying to keep him in her line of sight. However, she was required to constantly look skyward or else be crashed down upon by the firey boulders. She skirted right to avoid a tiny shower of the rocks, and almost ran headlong into another cluster of them.
She hesitated a moment to regain her sense of direction, panting pathetically, her tongue lolling out and her muscles screaming with protest. She stood there a few heartbeats, painfully aware how vulnerable she was and looked up only when she felt the blasting heat against her, singing her fur and scalding her skin. She looked up to see the biggest flaming boulder she had seen yet, coming straight toward her.
Her eyes widened in surprise and fear and she hastily broke into a desperate run, but the boulder was gaining. Vaniqua pushed herself to run faster, pinning her wings flat against her body to make herself more aerodynamic, but with little success. Saliva foamed at her jaws, yet her throat felt raw and she could taste blood. The boulder was approaching earth slowly and steadyily, with deadly purpose. Any shrubs nearby were burning to crisps under it's heat and Vaniqua felt the tip of her tail start to burn and forced herself to run even faster.
Silverstreak - June 26, 2008 03:10 AM (GMT)
Fear shone in Dragonfly's eyes. They widened until he could not take another second of it. He burst into flame and darted towards the meteor. He transformed back into a wolf and gently ushered Vaniqua forward with his red-streaked muzzle, paws eager to get on the move, and he made sure to stray not a foot from her side as he strode towards the tree in an effort to help her. Soft whimpers escaped from his throat. The evil in him had huddled away in his mind and cowered underneath the growing love for Vaniqua that erupted from his mother's side- and him.
