Title: Gladiatorial event
Description: Something that should be fun

Morbium - May 22, 2008 02:54 PM (GMT)
Basically, I'm coming up with ideas for a large RP-PvP event inspired by roman gladiator battles.

I'll add alot more detailed info later. But here's some things I can remember without grabbing for my notes.

It would be in the gurubashi arena. And we'd need a guardforce to keep players out of the center so they don't interrupt the battle.

The event would mostly be horde-only. Alliance would be allowed, but not as gladiators due to language issues

The gladiators would be level 10 for the first event and would be fixed classes with fixed gear. However, the classes would be more like: Swordfighter, beastmaster, berserker etc then relating directly to ingame classes. Certain abilities will be denied for sake of fair play and fun battles. (2 stealthing rogues in big arena no fun)

Gladiators would battle in roman style and be able to surrender at any point, at which they're at the crowd's mercy. Death is death, although deletion of the gladiator is not required (He could bear a different name if there's another gladiatorial event)

The winner of the event will get a title, gold and a slight advantage over other gladiators the next event.
------------------
I would like to hold severall events like this. Each time increasing the number of 'classes' available and the level. (like lvl 20 the next event).

So, would any of you be interested yet?

Ilron - May 24, 2008 05:37 PM (GMT)
Thumbs up, Morbium.

Any race restrictions?

I'd disagree with casters entering the arena.

Also, the attendants shouldn't wear any chestpiece.

Morbium - May 24, 2008 05:49 PM (GMT)
For diversity all horde races are allowed, but this is more of a slave arena.

And most casters are powerfull enough to avoid getting caught and you cant lock em up properly

Most 'custom' classes will be without chest armor, but a few can cover their chests

Morbium - September 10, 2008 05:08 PM (GMT)
alright, I finally got off my arse and updated this. You can put the hot poker and whip away Ilron. Here is everything I have. Any of you are free to expand upon this knowledge etc..

It would be held at gurubashi arena. So here are some notes about that
-Need security force (Brill militia?)
-We need someone to sell food and drinks. (Gallow's end tavern? IHOM?)
-Betting stalls!
-A presentator/announcer (Me?)
-Some healers/rezzers in case of emergency
-Alliance might be allowed (if they're none hostile)
-all gladiators would be level 10, but in other events this cap might be raised
-If your gladiator is killed, he's perma dead. But no need to delete him. Give him a new background and name for the next event!
-winning an event will give great advantages the next events
-every gladiator is a slave fighting for their freedom (provided by goblins?)
-for viewer sanity issues, stealth isn't allowed

What types of gladiators so far?
So far I got 5 classes of sorts. But they haven't been tested

First is the knuckleduster. This fellow, dressed in full leather with the rogue class as their base. Uses 2 brass knuckles to fight off foes.

Next, another rogueish fellow. Is the sworddancer, wielding 2 swords, they prefer to dodge attacks. Wearing mostly cloth and bits of leather.

The beastmaster! This fellow, wearing only leather pants, bracers and boots has somehow convinced an animal to aid at his side. the animal helping the beastmaster as he charges in with his 1H sword or axe

The berserker! Warrior as base class. He'll be bare chested, wiedling a 2-handed mace or axe into battle

Gladiator. What? a gladiator class? Pretty much. A warrior, bare chested might be done. Not sure. Using shield and sword.

Now, we'll have GvG battles, but perhaps we can get a druid to play a bear or so for some diversity? And maybe team battles?

*applaud*
I'm glad I'm not the only one who got this brilliant idea.
- Since I am too lazy to fulfill it, I hope you go through with it!
Good luck.

Lilliandras - September 28, 2008 11:33 AM (GMT)
I'll be referee if you will ^^

Morbium - September 28, 2008 03:57 PM (GMT)
Right now it'd be a tremendous help if you levelled a hunter, rogue or warrior to lvl 10 so I can do some testing.

Ilron - September 28, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
So far all my internet allows me is to browse the net, so I'll make some use of it, by finally adding my ideas and comments to The Gladiatorial Event.

1. The security force may be, as mentioned, our militia, though I don't rely on its' activity lately, therefore, anyone capable to do the job right, may volunteer to do so for payment.
2. Foods and drinks... this is our event, our idea, so we provide entertainment and we provide the refreshments. First orders come free, though later on, one must pay. We will eventualy decide which of our members does this job(for payment, of course).
3. Betting stalls are a must. One that wishes to spectate "the show", must either pay for the entrance or make a bet for the same amount 'or' more. IF the bet is not registered until the fight begins, the spectator should be thrown out.
4. A presentator/announcer will be Morbium. You, Morbium, will be standing next to me, preferably having atleast two guards around us. Once I give the signal, regarding the fate of the slaves' lives, you will shout it out.
5. Healers/medics... I would say one is enough, in case the lions go out of control or the slaves attempt to rebel. We 'will' have guards to prevent this from happening.
6. I strictly decline to the offer of letting in the alliance: trolls, undead, orcs... we have enough rights to kill them on sight as we do in the battleground. You can only dream about a happy happy fun time together.
7. Level 10 cap is agreeable. Rising levels by five later on, as mentioned earlier.
8. Perma-kill is a consequence. A consequence to the roleplay you're participating in and you cannot complain if you volunteered. It's also a step closer to reality.
9. Those who win my, or the crowd's favour, will of course gain reputation. Yes, there will be a temporary faction made for a reputation system... perhaps the more you have, the bigger is the possibility to gain a better quality weapon for the next event?
10. Stealth is an absurd idea already. Stealth does not equal invisibility, so where the heck do you plan hiding in the middle of the sandy arena?
11. Knuckleduster... should be a little complicated getting brass knuckles at such a low level... perhaps we'll change it to simple knives aswell as the name(as it would be no longer related to knuckles).
12. Sword-dancer. Leather pants, boots and cloth bracers. Two swords are a hell of an advantage.
13. A beastmaster is a good idea, aswell as his/her gear. As Morbium already mentioned me in-game, the beast should attack first, without the help of its' master. If the master decides to attack aswell, he/she should be killed on command by the guards.
14. The berserker can only wear cloth, though bare-chested and gloveless.
15. The gladiator would be the same as berserker, though with a shield and sword/mace/whatever. Can wear leather pants and boots.

I hope that's enough for now.

Tzar'ai - October 1, 2008 06:07 PM (GMT)
Because I'm:

a) Useless at PvP

and

b) Have no free alt spaces

I'll be the medic on Tzu OR refreshments on Verseau, depends which you feel the greater need for. Personally I'd prefer to be around on Tzu, easier to get to the arena.

Also, here were the original gladiator (roman style) types, mebbe some inspiration to be drawn:

Dimacheri - Fighters with dual swords, helmet and armguards. No chest or leg armour.

Retiarii - Fighters with a net and trident, shoulders and arms covered. No chest or leg armour.

Hoplomachii - Fought in a full suit of armour. Obviously in real-life this is a disadvantage against something like a retiarii, but that doesn't carry into WoW. /shrug

HOWEVER, they fought with a spear, or sword and buckler. Helmet, legs and arms covered. No chestpiece as usual.

Laqueatores - Fought with a spear and rope. Same armour as retiarii.

Secutores - Sword and shield, helmet, arms and legs covered.

Bestiarii - Fought with ANYTHING against animals (perhaps have the spectators throwing weapons into the arena? Eg, give the fighter a simple sword, spear, axe and mace, and then the crowd chooses which weapon to 'throw' to him/her/it).

Sagittarii - Fought with a bow and arrow. Coif, mail chestpiece, leather leg armour. Perhaps an oppurtunity for a good kiter to show off.

And finally the Andabatae, who fought blindfolded. Might be interesting. Impossible, but interesting. =P

Ilron - October 1, 2008 07:30 PM (GMT)
We should vote on who's suggestions are best, because we'll have to decide sooner or later, eh? Make a poll or something *shrug* maybe ask in the realm forum.

Morbium - October 1, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
very very big thanks Tzur for giving the ancient roman style gladiators! That should help with some extra classes! Maybe I can even fit in a caster class now! Still need testing though.

Also Ilron. This would be a faction event, not just Brill. Brill couldn't fund something as large as this on their own. So that's the little backstory of the goblins sponsoring. So other races could be hired by the goblins. For the security force I'd really like a guild able to pull something hugelly organized off. And no doubt IHOM would be a welcome aid since I doubt our little staff could handle all incoming orders.

OKay, Allies will be kept out then. If they disrupt the fighting they'll be ripped apart. And if it's some huge ally raid I'll flame em for weeks for the forums for ruining an RP event that doesn't even harm the alliance in a single way.

I'd say rise 10 levels each event. Don't think we'll hold to many of these. And plenty of time to level in between.

I don't like the idea of a temporary reputation system. We'll keep track of the battles one. The crowd will get favorites of itself. We can't decide who they like. Ofc, a like-able gladiator with a nice backstory will fetch them the crowd's favourotism. And if they win them a pretty coin those gladiators will have the crowd in the palm of their hand.

Winning an event gives an advantage for the next. It also gives you the chance to participate in more beastbattles. Simply for the crowd's amusement. And after all, the ultimate price's freedom.

Ilron - October 1, 2008 09:36 PM (GMT)
I pretty much wanted to say exactly what you did, except for the faction part ^^ nevermind.

Lilliandras - October 5, 2008 12:23 AM (GMT)
I demand a seat of status
*cleans her seat*
i do not wish to sit around commoners....

Any role i can play in all of this, except look perty?

Ilron - October 5, 2008 09:01 AM (GMT)

Lilliandras - October 28, 2008 08:12 PM (GMT)
Hey morb.

just a suggestion, but would it be nice if we had a 'champion'? :P

nothing special. just a character with a bit better gear, and possibly even lvl 12.

Morbium - October 29, 2008 01:40 AM (GMT)
Champions will arrise anyway. as will crowd favorites. This event's just a first of many hopefully

Lilliandras - November 2, 2008 02:57 PM (GMT)
i'm training a gladiator ;)

Female Tauren Warrior. Goes by the name of Shinraa

Morbium - November 8, 2008 12:22 AM (GMT)
Goody lilly.

Since the first event is lvl 10. No shoulders are available and so on.

So I'll stick to this:

Only 4 WoW classes:
Rogue, warrior, hunter and druid for this event.

Druids will be bears. In which we team up 3 gladiators against 5 bears.

I will need a pretty big gladiator pool. About 20 or so. I think I'll stick to the previouss types for now.

For the event I'd do it this way:

----------------
Starting gladiator versus gladiator battles. Fixed equipment. Untill every gladiator has fought at least once. I'd say a max of 5 deaths in this first round.

Then the losers get divided in groups of three, allowed to pick their own weapons. And each group fights against the bears.

GvG matches again. Winners of the first round against eachother. After this only about 5 or 6 gladiators should be left.

The winners of the last beast vs gladiator now face eachother in a 3 vs 3 style. Using the same teams as the BvG matches.

winners of last GvG match battle in semi-finals untill only 2 winners remain.

Winners get seperated for a moment. Short speech and such. And if time permits there's a last man standing battle for all the gladiators that are still alive but the finalists.

Final match! Maybe add in some bears near the edges to make it exciting?
---------

After every match, I as spectator would see if the crowd wants the loser to live or die. And then Ilron gives me either a dumb up or down. Before I shout the final fate of the gladiator out to the public.

Does Lilly play a part in it?
or do I stick with Shinraa? (It's thumb, not dumb, btw ;) )

Morbium - November 11, 2008 09:48 PM (GMT)
Bah, I was tired and english aint' my native tongue! typos happen!

Lilly, I didn't insert a role for Lilliandras. I'd rather keep things simple and in controll as far as leadership goes.

Right, since Brill lacks 70s I'll also contact the cult and the tribe for guards. Maybe the spirit wolves as well. Having famous names in an event draws more attention. Which only can make it better.

Everyone's free to make alts for this! Just send a PM to this forum account of mine which the gladiator's name and class. And his backstory if possible.

Lilliandras - November 12, 2008 02:20 PM (GMT)
Well, since Lilly doesn't have a role, i'll make due with Shirnaa then. Maybe even have an extra gladiator....

Oh, and do make sure that they leave the corpses :P
untill we decide to clean the arena

Auriea - November 28, 2008 10:19 PM (GMT)
BRILLiant idea! (Get it? Get it? ;) )

Atheren - January 4, 2009 07:42 AM (GMT)
I am from another realm but when I saw this thing, (and read things about brill and that there is RP on horde side in some realm.) I considered to join if its possible, I can make alts as gladiators most likely and now I already have 4 characters in this realm those are level 7-9 so there would be coming four? anyways, Il be trying to contact you guys in-game if I can.

Morbium - January 4, 2009 12:42 PM (GMT)
the problem currently is I don't have the time to work out the details and balance of the event. And I simply don't have any more alt space. But don't worry, I haven't forgotten this and will try to work on this event.

But don't hope it comes soon, because it won't.
