Title: The fall of rock.
Mr. Zombie. - August 18, 2007 01:29 PM (GMT)
Many people would disagree with me saying "Rock has died". They combat with things such as "Fallout boy!" wtf? That's more pop than anything.
I personally believe the downfall of this wonderful genre began right after the band Nirvana. Nirvana was an awesome band, but sadly people came in and wanted to copy off them. Slowly it combined with MTV's evil plans and it created 'rock'.....or in my words 'poor pop that could never hope to be true rock'.
Yes, you got a handful of people who still live up to the rock name, but most of them are not well known and do not get the attention they deserve.
Post your opinions.

Actually, Cobain killed Rock by oversimplifying it. Everyone started to copy, and the rest is as you said. Nirvana was only popular because of Teen Spirit, which I can't stand anymore. Guns N' Roses were the last "real" rock band.

GnR me love! Nirvana simplified it, yes, but I liked many of their songs and I believe of them as a true rock band, bringing something new to the plate. But should've been left to that, an original piece, corrupted by many crappy sequels to make some cheap cash in the box office.
XD
I wonder when GnR will come out with their new album.

Nevermind is horrible. Every band since than has tried to emulate it, and has failed. In Utero, now that is a good album. But anyway, with Nevermind, Nirvana added pop to Grunge. Last time I checked Grunge was "s**t music" as Mark Arm said; aka it was dirty.
I want Chinese Democracy badly. Axl better hurry his ass up.

Either Axl wants it to be perfect, or he's just retarded. I believe it's both, he so retarded, he wants to make it perfect. XD
What I see in your post, is the only reason you don't like Nevermind is because everyone wanted to copy off it and it gave it a bad taste. Such as what happened with Final Fantasy 7, all these sequels ruined it.
Grunge is pretty good in the right manner.

I do believe that rock is deteriorating, though there are still bands who stay true to rock roots. The White Stripes, for instance; they're still a rock band that I think highly of. But yes, many great rock bands have died and there isn't much hope for our wonderful genre any more.

White Strips are awesome.
But yeah, rock is dead.

I love the white stripes.
I also like Coheed and Cambria, even though many don't.

That depends on how you define "real" rock. So far, it seems like everyone is being a bit narrow-minded as to what rock means. Although Fall Out Boy is poppy (and a terrible band, in my personal opinion), they are still a rock band. Not all rock is heavy-extreme-guitar-soloness, although I do admittedly prefer it that way.
I'm not at all a fan of today's rock, but my opinion certainly doesn't draw the line between what's "change" and what's "decline."
Besides, there are plenty of bands out there today with talent. It's not all doom and gloom, you know. You could always listen to some of the what I suppose I'd define as "good" artists (The White Stripes, Buckethead, Incubus, Coheed, etc.) instead of concentrating on the ones you hate.

Rock is not rock without a good guitar solo. For crying out loud, many 'rock' bands nowadays don't even have a defined melody. How can you call that rock?

hahahaa. Cobain copied the pixies.
Nirvana did not kill rock.
They were not only popular because of teen spirit. That launched them into the big time, but every artist has something that launches them.
Nirvana were a great band.
Shutup.

I've noticed a lot of my friends say Relient K is rock.... I don't have that many friends that listen to rock either. Relient K is supposed to be "Christian Rock" if there are any great bands of the genre... =p
Über Lysis - September 12, 2007 12:19 AM (GMT)
"Christian" can't really be considered a genre, as it has nothing to do with the music. "Christian" music either refers to the lyrical content or even just the band itself.
Sylvan - September 12, 2007 05:50 PM (GMT)
Most of the lyrical content is not Christian, for that matter. They made a song about Nancy Drew. The only Christian content is if they play Wake up call, in which they include Jesus. other songs include My girlfriend, When You're around, Staples, Hello Mcfly, etc. It's only a few of their songs that they have lyrics like that. example: Balloon Ride:
There were times in my life when I was confused.
There were things between me and God that were blocking my view.
So I prayed,
"Oh dear Lord, take these things away so I can see."
He answered my prayer and at the sight of Him
I fell to my knees.
And until I went onto that fateful trip.
I thought I was on a sinking ship.
Until,
I went on a balloon ride
I could see everything from up there.
I went on a balloon ride
And now everything seems clear.
I strive towards infinity.
Though sometimes I don't know what to do.
When other people laugh at me
All I do is look towards You.
Well on my through this life yet something was gone.
I looked round and round and then I found I needed some one.
So I prayed,
"Oh dear Lord, fill me up and make me whole.
Present in my life Jesus Christ, save my soul."
