Chapter One: Beginning Of It All
The female dragon gazed down at its egg with suprising tenderness in its gigantic eyes. Its kind had been ruthlessly hunted for many years as a result of the myth that all dragons were evil, now there weren't many of its noble kind left so this egg held the hopes of an entire species within its shell. If it was male that would mean that the future of Dragons would be safe, but if it was female then all would be lost. The last male had died recently and this sole egg held their fates in its depths, suddenly there was a gentle chirping from within the shell. It was quiet at first but grew louder and louder as the hatchling shifted in the egg, the mother nuzzled the egg gently, encouraging the baby to continue its fight to break the shell.
Come on little one, you can do it thought the mother as the egg began to rock slightly.
A crack appeared and ran down each side of the egg as the hatchling fought to break free. All was quiet for one dreadful moment but then s hole opened in the top and a little head thrust itself through and pulled itself out and panted exhaustedly.

The little hatchling struggled free of the remnants of its egg shell and gobbled up food placed before it by its mother. It was as his mother had prayed, the little hatchling was indeed male. Now their species had a chance, but the little one would need to grow and thus he would need a lot of food. The little bull dragon gave a cute squeak and swished his little tail as he finished his meal and tested his strength by walking around a little. Under the watchful eyes of his mother he explored about the nest site, taking in the smells around him and learning what things were. He flapped his little wings but was not yet strong enough to actually fly, the other dragons sniffed and greeted the little hatchling and his mother gave him a name.
"You shall be known as Durnn, which mean strong one," she said.
The little male chirped and identified the name as himself, he sniffed his mother familiarizing himself with her scent so that if they ever got separated they would be able to find each other again. He flicked his little tail and licked his muzzle as he looked about and felt the growth beginning.

Durnn watched the older dragons with curiousity in his eye, he could not wait until he was as big and strong as they were. There were also other hatchlings around but they were all female, he practised strutting about infront of the young females as his collective memories told him that the older males had done. He swished his tail and made a great show of strutting and fanning his wings in his shows to the females. Although they were only young hatchlings it was important that they learn these behaviours as it would prepare them for life as adutl dragons. More importantly Durnn wanted to know how to hunt, to catch his own food but his mother told him that he was too young for such things yet. Best that he get to know himself and what he was capable of first, when he was a bit older she had said she would take him out and show him how to hunt. Durnn had nodded disappointed and scurried off to his playmates, however, he had not seen the looks of adoration in the young females eyes. Being a male, he was of great improtantance to his family and a great deal of attention was lavished on him so that he might grow big and strong.
Also Durnn's mother kept a protective eye on her young son, it would not do to have him wandering away in case something happened to him. A few hatchlings in each hatching fell prey to predators when they unwittingly wandered away from the safety of the dens. But this did but occur to Durnn as he was too busy attempting to catch butterflies by balancing on his tail and launching himself into the air like a spring. He was still too little to fly but he was growing and becoming stronger each day.

One day whilst Durnn was out exploring, without realising it he had strayed away from the dens and found himself in a place he did not recognize. Although he had grown a lot since his hatching only days ago he was still little and could prove a snack for larger predators. Durnn flicked his tail as he continued to chase the butterfly which constantly avaded him. But suddenly there was a snap and the little insect was caught in the jaws of another dragon, a male slightly older than Durnn was. Durnn blinked and looked at the older male curiously, he had not expected to see another male and chirped in greeting to him.
"It isn't safe for you to be wandering alone at here little male. There are things out here which would make a meal out of you if given the chance," the older male said.
"I hadn't noticed I was away from the dens," Durnn replied shyly.
The older male nodded "I am Thorn, I thought I was the last male. But it appears the fates have been kind and allowed another to hatch."
"Greetings Thorn I am Durnn," Durrn said introducing himself to Thorn.
"Tell me Durnn, would you like me to teach you how to hunt. The females don't seem to want to do that," he said.
Durnn's little eyes lit up with excitement "Oh yes please, that would be great."
Thorn smiled at Durnn's enthuiasm and together they launched themselves into the sky and took off.
