Title: Tzeentchs Arena! AKA WHFB tournament

Grand Seraphim - April 21, 2006 02:10 PM (GMT)
Tzeentches Arena

Come mighty champions, entertain me with your words, entertain me with your strength, and entertain me with your blade. There can only be one champion, and thus only one survivor, good luck mighty champions if you do not die at the hand of your enemy, the darkness will take you soon enough…

-Welcome to Tzeentches arena, this is a competition similar to Hak’s, but for Warhammer Fantasy. Each combatant will face each other twice each fight will last for five rounds, if there is no clear victor after those rounds the fight will be deemed a draw.

Combat
-Before each combat there will be a round of shooting, this gives you the opportunity to kill your opponent before you even start (if you are very, very lucky) however after this no more shooting will be done.

-You may cast one magic spell a turn at the enemy (not counting bound items) if you’re character has the ability, however you have the option of choosing which spell to take. You must stick with this spell the entire competition. If you choose a spell which you must cast while out of close combat, it will be cast once after the shooting phase, but if it fails then, it fails for the rest of the combat.

-Once characters have engaged in close combat only magic which is allowed to be cast during combat is allowed. The characters will always use their magic items at the first opportunity (so I don’t recommend taking things with a one off effect :D).

-After shooting phase (and any magic which cannot be used in combat) combat will begin.

-Both characters count as charging in the first round of combat in regard to any special rules, but will strike in initiative order. Movement does not matter.

-The combat counts as a challenge, and so any magic items which can only be used in a challenge (such as the 'eadbuttin at) count as active.

Well, hopefully that makes the basic rules clear enough, now, on to the characters!

You may choose a single Lord or Hero level character to compete. You may not change your character after entering. The following limitations apply.

-No greater daemons
-No Slann Mage-Priests
-No characters may ride mounts of any kind (Brettonians fight without their horse), things such as bull centaurs will have the ability.
-Characters must comply with their entry (eg, the limits of magic items, big names, sacred spawning still apply)
-You are free to use most supplementary lists (I will say if there is a major problem)
-You must use the most up to date version of your character available
-Vampires Counts may not raise units etc in this competition
-Your character may not be a battle standard bearer
-No special characters allowed
-No Van Horseman’s Spectrum (I think that’s it. People know what I am talking about)

A win gets you 3pts.

A draw gets you 1pt. (no clear winner after 5 rounds of combat)

A loss gets you 0pts (surprise surprise)

Well, I think that’s everything. I’m confirming that there is NO cap on pts spent on characters, however they must comply with normal rules. (This gives a bit of an advantage to Chaos Lords + Old bloods, but you will start with some bonus points if you take a gobbo etc)

Also, make up a name, best one gets bonus points!

Finally, the champion will fight a final foe should they win, specially designated by Tzeentch. Should they defeat this final challenge they will have the right to call themselves the champion of champions in there sig.

When you post your character do it in an identical style to Hak's tournament.

Post his stats, post any abilities and/or special equipment and explain what they do.

I have been authorised by Hak to run this tournament, before i get my head bitten off.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

GS

Haktar - April 21, 2006 02:41 PM (GMT)
i'll sit it out if no-one minds, to see if it works or not.

awwww his sounds sooo much cooler than mine did..... dammit.

Grand Seraphim - April 21, 2006 04:38 PM (GMT)
Oh, go on Hak. You know you want to enter (nudges Haktar)

:P

GS

Prince Senlaith - April 21, 2006 05:58 PM (GMT)
Sounds fun, I guess I'll go write me up a hero. Will Dwarf Shieldbearers count as a mount for this or not?

Grand Seraphim - April 21, 2006 06:05 PM (GMT)
im afraid they will, no mounts of any kind :D

And when you say Hero, i assume you mean lord, because unless you have a really cunning plan, i would reccomend you used a lord :P

GS

Angel of Algebra - April 21, 2006 06:13 PM (GMT)
Does the fight count as a challenge? This is important for some Magic Items like the 'Edbuttin' 'At.

AoAlgebra

Grand Seraphim - April 21, 2006 06:26 PM (GMT)
Fair question AOA, to be fair this time round im going to say yes, but it may change on later occasions. I will edit the rules to contain this.

Are you going to enter?

GS

Angel of Algebra - April 21, 2006 07:49 PM (GMT)
Of course I am taking part! but I needed to know that before I wrote my character ;) I'll be soft and enter an elf :)

Arhalaith Everglade - Wood Elf Alter Kindred Highborn

[180] M9 WS7 BS6 S4 T3 W3 I9 A5 Ld10

[6] Light Armour, Shield

[30] Spear of Twilight - Killing Blow
[20] Merciw's Locus - Carrier and anyone in base contact get no Strength bonuses from Magical or non-Magical weaponry
[20] Helm of the Hunt - Wearer gets +1A and +1WS in the first round of combat when charging. 6+ Armour Save
[25] Annoyance of Netlings - Enemy models need 6s to hit the character in challenges (why do you think i asked? :P)

281pts total
------------

I was going to enter an Anointed, but decided to be original and choose a character I like over one that will proceed to wipe the floor with every other entrant.

AoAlgebra

Grand Seraphim - April 21, 2006 07:55 PM (GMT)
Awsome AoA, M9? damn wood elves...

And, if the annoyence proves to good, i will change the rules in the intrest of fairness (damn it, that is a good character though....)

GS

Woodpecker - April 21, 2006 08:45 PM (GMT)
D'you guys want me to start an AoD forum? That's basically what this is...
I'll be entering, either with my famously deadly Wardancer Highborn who's name I need to look up or with my brutal Oldblood Itzcotl.
There are some more items you need to ban, by the way. There are a few out there that are too powerful for this sort of thing. I ran the AoD forum on Asrai, I'll look that stuff up for you. Right now all I can remember is some absurdly overpowered Skaven weapon.

Can we go over limits on magic items?

Grand Seraphim - April 21, 2006 08:50 PM (GMT)
As i mentioned in the rules, you have to comply with your entry. Eg if your character is limited to 100pts of magic items, then he is limited in this to 100pts of magic items.

Might be a good idea to create an AOD forum WP.

Thanks for the advice but i would rather learn from experience on this sort of thing, if somthing does seem absurdly powerful, i will ban it for future tournaments. By all means send me the list though, i will use it to look out for the items should they come up ;) (Pm would probably be best)

I cant wait to see your characters (grumble grumble, now WP's enterd i have to let him win, or he will kill me :P)

GS

Baranthazul - April 21, 2006 09:11 PM (GMT)

251 pts in total (170 base)

Why Baran, just why...

GS

Grand Seraphim - April 21, 2006 10:07 PM (GMT)
Another point, please can you list the total points of characters, and magic items/other equipment purchased for them.

Woodpecker - April 22, 2006 04:03 AM (GMT)
Can I commit suicide? Baran just named his character after me... Please?!?

I'm looking for that list. I'll PM it to you as soon as I find it.

I think I'm going with my good ol' wardancer of doom.

Grand Seraphim - April 22, 2006 07:41 AM (GMT)
Nice DA, very clever character.

Cant wait to see yours WP, i thought it was a good thing when i saw Bull Centaur Lord, but then i saw the name and had to put my head in my hands.

GS

Haktar - April 22, 2006 08:38 AM (GMT)
On the principle that i have the brettonian codex, im going to borrow my mates lizardmen book- there is NO WAY a bret lord is ever gonna win this. their statline is.... welll..... terrible compared to most chaos/elf stuff!

Baranthazul - April 22, 2006 01:18 PM (GMT)
WP, I named it after my idol. I hope it wins, so I can dedicate my victory to you. And if it dies, then you're dead..... right?
---Baran

Woodpecker - April 22, 2006 04:13 PM (GMT)
I can't find the list. I guess we'll have to make up our own rules. If this goes well, I'll make a forum.

Here's my character:

Woodpecker, Wood Elf Wardancer Highborn

Wood Elf Highborn [145]
M5 WS7 BS6 S4 T3 W3 I8 A4(5) Ld10

Wardance Kindred [50]
Loses longbow. Gains Wardancer Weapons (+1 attack, +1 strength on the charge), Talismanic Tattoos (+6 Ward Save, MR1), Shadow Dances of Loec (see below), and Immune to Psychology.

Blades of Loec [35]
Reroll failed rolls to wound

Annoyance of Netlings [25]
Opponents in challanges only hit on 6s.

Amber Pendant [35]
Enemies in BTB contact ALWAYS strike last, regardless of abilities.

Dances:
+1 Attack
+4 Ward Save
Strikes first, -1 attack
Gains Killing Blow
Dances may not be used in two simultanious turns.

I'm hoping the ward dance and the annoyances and the pendant can keep me alive long enough to KB my opponent...

shootyarmies - April 22, 2006 06:27 PM (GMT)
What's the point limit? Or is there none?

Grand Seraphim - April 22, 2006 08:26 PM (GMT)
*sigh* i did put this in the original post shooty, there is NO point limit, you just have to keep to the limits in your characters entry. (eg, if your character is only allowed 100pts of magic items, then he can only have 100pts of magic items in this competition. If he can only have 30pts of big names, he can only have 30pts of big names in this competition)

I can see these Netlings are going to be annoying for everyone :P

Oh, and no bonus pts for your name WP

Hopefully we can get a few more people involved, i would like to reach at least eight before i start.

I assume you get to choose a different dance every turn. Im not sure how im gonna pull that off, because this was going to be rolled for by me independant from you guys, i will have to think it over. I may have to limit it so you choose a single dance for the whole competition, or i may have to do your combats WP via MSN.

Or, it may be simplar for you to enter a different character (as you know, we dont seem to be on at the same time "that" often)

GS

shootyarmies - April 22, 2006 10:35 PM (GMT)
alright, fine, here it is.
Ictoagn (don't ask): Blood Dragon Vampire Lord

M6 WS10 BS6 S5/7/8 T5 W3 I8 A6 Ld10

Level 3 Wizard (generates 2 power dice), using curse of years

Full Plate: 4+ save, can be casted through

Black Axe of Krell: great weapon, wounded model rolls a D6 each turn in my magic phase, suffer additional wound on a 1-2, no armour save allowed

Red Fury: +1 Attack (included)

Strength of Steel: +1 Strength on charge (last number)

its 430 points if anyone cares

Woodpecker - April 23, 2006 03:36 AM (GMT)
Before you start, just post saying so, and I'll PM you my strategy for which dance to use when, etc. That's what you were going to do anyway, right? ;) That's normally what you do for AODs...

Grand Seraphim - April 23, 2006 08:11 AM (GMT)
Shooty, if your going to enter please read all the rules.

You have selected a level three wizard, you are now allowed to select any spell from the Necromancy list (but not Invocation of Nehek because the competition disallows it). The spell you select will be the one you always cast in a fight, read through the rules on how magic works in this competition in the original post.

Hmm, okay we can do it that way WP, but make sure it is a "clear" strategy :P

And, i wouldnt know, this is the first AOD i have run, and like i said i like to learn from experience. ie: if i think there is a better way of doing it, i might do it that way instead next time.

GS

the dark master - April 24, 2006 08:16 AM (GMT)
just dont start tomorrow, 'cause I want to participate too and I have my Armybooks at home and my broadband in scool... so please?

Prince Senlaith - April 24, 2006 10:11 AM (GMT)
Ok, after much agonising over magic items and such, here's my character.

Bran Durak Silverforge, Dwarf Lord: 288 points
M3 WS7 BS4 S4 T5 W3 I4 A4 Ld10
Gromril Armour (4+ save)
Dwarf handgun (handgun with +1 to hit at all times)
Shield
Great Runic weapon with Rune of fury, Master rune of Kragg the grim and grudge rune (is a great weapon with +1 attack re-rolling misses).
Runic Armour with Rune of preservation and Rune of stone (Immune to poison and killing blow, and +1 to armour save).
Runic Talisman with Master rune of spite (4+ ward save).

Final stats:
M3 WS7 BS4 S4(6) T5 W3 I4 A5 Ld10
3+ armour save in cc, 2+ versus missile fire and if he doesn't use his runic weapon.
4+ ward save.
Re-rolls all missed hits in close combat.
Is immune to killing blow and poison.
Has a dwarf handgun.

Yes I usually play high elves, but they get totally outclassed in close combat by practically everything, so I'm trying Dwarfs instead.

Haktar - April 24, 2006 04:16 PM (GMT)
I refuse to pit anything against a vampire lord (and certainly not a bret or lizzie). so, no

that, and i lost my armybooks

But anyway, GS, if you put a points cap on i'll participate. (for next time obviously)

Grand Seraphim - April 24, 2006 04:57 PM (GMT)
Yer see, why cant you all type it out in the same way as Princes, that is ideal :P

Okay, after DM enters his character and shooty makes it clear on what magic spell he is using then i will close entry and start the combats.

Great characters everyone, Tzeetch awaits...

Any bets on the outcome while we wait?

GS

shootyarmies - April 24, 2006 07:56 PM (GMT)
GS, read my post, I edited it before you posted that.

Woodpecker - April 24, 2006 08:26 PM (GMT)
My bet is that the Annoyance of Netlings will be enough to keep the Woodies alive long enough to get in the 1 needed KB out of their 5 attacks. The one guy who can't be KBed will be a little trouble, and the head to head will be a tossup, but otherwise...YOU'RE ALL DOOMED!

Oh, and GS, please make sure you post matchups before each round so I can PM strategy in.
We could start while we wait for DM. He can get caught up later...

Prince Senlaith - April 24, 2006 09:11 PM (GMT)
I say start now, then do DM's matches later, you don't need everyone to begin. Also, rather than just posting the results, could you tell us a little bit about how the fight went? Just a sentence or two to make it more evocative and interesting.

Baranthazul - April 24, 2006 09:17 PM (GMT)
My guess is that I will lose most of my fights.
---Baran

Ironskintribe - April 24, 2006 09:38 PM (GMT)
The rules for this one are rather lame only because of the no points cap. If GS gives the highest pointed character 0 bonus points and each lower point costed character a proportional amount of bonus points by the points they differ from the highest costed character. This post does not make much sense but, I will not enter due to the points cost and the rule of it being a challenege.

Also, do characters have to take break tests after losing combat because then ogres have some very nasty items against many of the characters that have been entered in the tournament.

Dark Angel - April 24, 2006 10:18 PM (GMT)
Gs can i change my character i've been meinign to after long internal conflict come upon another choice so is it Y/N?

Woodpecker - April 25, 2006 11:21 AM (GMT)
@Prince: Usually I write some big fluff piece and then post the turn by turn rolls at the bottom. It makes it more interesting.

GS, set the matchups, so we can send in stragegy.

@Iron: I doubt there's psychology. There almost never is in AoDs, because it can be used so well by terror causers.

Grand Seraphim - April 25, 2006 03:55 PM (GMT)
DA, youve gotta stick with your first character, enter the other one next time.

I will do fluff the way i have decided :D.

No Psycology Iron.

I didnt see it Shooty, so sorry.

Prince gets the bonus pt for his name, because you no one else seemed to put that much effort into theirs, and his was coolest :P

We only have seven contestants, and since it is easier for me if nobody has to "sit out" i have enterd my own character, a Tomb King. I doubt he will win, but he is a bit of a roadblock :D

Lord of the Tomb, master of the rising sun the immortal Lord Hapshetsut

M4 WS6 BS4 S5 T5 W4 I3 A4 Ld Pts170

Shield (+3pts)
Flail of skulls (+45pts)- Each unsaved wound becomes two wounds
Armour of Ages (+35pts) Heavy Armour, +1 wound
Vambraces of the Sun (+15pts) one model in bsb loses one attack

Final Stats
M4 WS6 BS4 S5 T5 W5 I3 A4 Ld Pts170

Final pts: 263

Now, onto the matchups.

First Round Matchups

AOA Vs DA

WP Vs Baran

Shooty Vs Dark Master

Prince Vs GS

-Fluff will be posted with the results of the first round, WP, PM me your strategy and i will do your match last.

Baranthazul - April 25, 2006 08:17 PM (GMT)
What!?! I didn't win the name?!? But mine took the most time to research!
