Title: Completed Part 2
Woodpecker - March 28, 2006 09:21 PM (GMT)
Here's the completed part 2.
Angelic Civilization
The Holy City of Ayamith
The Angelic city of Ayamith sits hidden within the huge cove of a forsaken desert island, which lies out at sea, many hundreds of miles from even primitive civilization. Any ship that comes within 300 leagues of the island is struck down and sunk by storms, but the city itself is bathed in eternal light. Indeed, any human who somehow managed to come in sight of it would be blinded instantly, so pure and powerful is the glow of its white walls. It is said that the city itself is the greatest weapon of the angels in their war against chaos, for daemons cannot touch the substance of which Ayamith is made without bursting into flame. Even when all else has failed, the flame of Ayamith will endure.
The city itself is made up of nine levels. It is impossible to reach the city or move between the levels without the gift of flight, for there are no gates or stairs. Each of the nine levels is home to one of the nine types of angel. One of the nine seraphim rules over each level. The citadel, the ninth level, is called Empyrean, and houses the council of the Seraphim, over which Sephiroth presided. It is also home to the Great Library of Ayamith: the repository of all angelic knowledge and the place in which the Celestial Tome of Seraphaal is kept. The eighth level is the level of the four-winged Cherubim and their archangel protectors, the Cherubai. Over this level Ashshaitan presided until the fall. The seventh level is the residence of the Angelic clerics, the Virtues. The mage-seraph Gabriel reigns over this, the most mysterious of levels. The sixth level is the home of the lieutenants of the Sabaoth, the mighty Thrones. Here, for the first time, are regular angels and archangels often seen, consulting with their leaders. Over this level, which holds the core of the angelic military, rules Raphael, who also leads the Council of Seraphim in place of Sephiroth. The fifth level houses the zealous, introspective Dominions and their smaller, more numerous counterparts, the Vengeances. Fittingly, the outcast seraph Azrael rules over this level. The fourth level is the domain of the mighty Powers, the angelic civil workers. The angels of this level are lead by the industrious seraph Uriel.
The third level is home of the barracks and training grounds of the angels, for although the Sabaoth are born warriors, they still spend time honing skills and practicing maneuvers. The training sessions are overseen by the orderly and tactical Principalities, and their leader, the seraph Michael. And finally, the first and second levels are the home of the regular angels and their brethren the archangels. The industries of the Sabaoth are all housed on these levels. Although the second level is technically that of the archangels, and the first that of the angels, both types move freely between levels. Over the second level presides Raguel, the avenger, and over the first presides Metatron, voice of the masses.
Throughout the Holy City, many wonders can be found: the Temple of Seraphaal, the Library of Empyrean, Uriel’s foundries, or the Public Forum. But perhaps the greatest wonder of all is the Crystal Forest, located just outside of the walls of the first level. The Forest, which consists of several dozen acres of living crystal, was grown by the virtues from the shards of Seraphaal’s twin swords. Crystal harvested from the forest is used to make tools, armor, and weapons, all of which have incredible properties when completed.
Angelic Society
As inhuman and alien as they are, angels behave in the same ways and experience the same range of emotions as mortal men. The love and laugh, think and learn, fight and hate. There is only one major difference from humanity. Humans will let their feelings towards others, whether positive or negative, override all else. All angels came in to existence knowing their place and purpose in the world, so this does not happen. Their judgment is always clear and focused. However, this comes at a cost. Because angels have a precise purpose, the annihilation of Chaos, they have a static existence. Their society doesn’t stagnate, but neither does it ever change in any great way. In comparison, human societies seem to be as many and varied as the stars.
Angelic Existence
Angelic life, death, and composition are a large part of what makes the Sabaoth different from the other races of the world. Angels are not formed of flesh and blood as they appear, but are instead made up of a bit of Seraphaal’s essence, a shard of his body. The true angel is in the essence, not in the material form that the angel takes to tie his essence to the world. All angels take a humanoid appearance, as that was the battle-guise of Seraphaal, but destroying that does not kill the angel. When an angel is “killed” in battle, the ties holding it to the mortal word break, and the angel’s essence is pulled back into Sheol, the angelic void. Little is known of Sheol, for even the angels cannot describe it, but it is believed to be the antithesis of the Warp. It certainly is not death, because all angels will eventually return. It takes them an extraordinary amount of energy to return to the material world, but they do eventually. The lowest angel can take centuries, the Cherubim take millennia. The strength of the essence of Seraphaal making up the angel plays a part, as does the extremity of the death. More powerful angels require more energy to return to the world, so take longer; and an angel that was just run through returns much more quickly than one torn apart by fire, for the essence also must heal itself. Angels can only be truly killed by magical attack, and even then, the attack must be extraordinarily powerful and quick, for it must destroy the entirety of the essence before it escapes into Sheol.
Angels can reproduce, but this process, like their rebirth into the material world, takes enormous energy. The parents must each donate part of their own essence, and usually have to release themselves into the void to recover. The new angel also takes time before emerging to the world, but will instantly know its parents when it does so. Between the three will be formed the strongest bond imaginable, for although all angels are made from the same essence, the parents and child have the same essence. As such, they are especially resilient.
All angels are made up of Seraphaal’s essence, so all have a special and holy bond. Each angel is an individual, but is also part of a whole. When an angel dies, whether temporarily or truly, all other angels can feel it. Also, angels do not need to talk, for they can communicate telepathically. Angels who do learn to speak and sing out loud can direct their voices to inflict enormous damage upon weak mortals.

Again, all the names come from somewhere in judeo-christian myth. Part 3 is more "Hosts of the Sabaoth", not fluff, so that will go more in hand with the army list. I'd like to throw in a timeline and maybe a map or drawing of Ayamith.

Prince Senlaith - March 31, 2006 05:47 PM (GMT)
Indeed, I'm with Baran on this one, this is a nice piece of work. A few things though:
Having the Angels on an island doesn't make much sense. It means they are completely cut off from the Chaos gate to the south, and most normal Angels probably wouldn't be able to fly that far, and they don't strike me as a seafaring nation. Perhaps during the chaos invasion the land itself was torn apart, and the isle of the Angels was separated from the southern continent by tectonic forces (which they may even have directed themselves to help shield themselves from Chaos).
In general mythology, Raziel was the most mystical of the Archangels, rather than Gabriel. He also has an arcane blessing in the blessings list, and is keeper of the great library in our fluff, so he suits the position better than Gabriel.
Apart from that I can see nothing wrong with it, bravo.
Dark Angel - April 2, 2006 06:28 AM (GMT)
i like it apart from you changing princedoms to thrones its ok
also prince i have a souluyion to that predicament; warp gates the angels uses them and it is connected to every outpost that we have and cities located in the northern and southern lands so we have acces every hwere in the blink of an eye. also if it comes down to it they would know how to sail to a ok extent but they prefer not to.
Woodpecker - April 2, 2006 04:04 PM (GMT)
They can fly, can't they? They don't have to fly that high to travel across oceans, and it's not like they have a limited supply of energy. We can put the island close to the southern wastes.
I chose Gabriel over Raziel for some reason, but I can't think of what it is right now. Aren't Azreal and Raziel the same angel? I can't remember. We can make a compilation of the names and sort them into items, etc.
Oh, and BTW, any blessing which doesn't have a seraphim namesake can just be assumed to have a high-level cherubim namesake.
The thrones thing has been outvoted, so I think I'm just going to work the holy number down to eight. I don't see why anyone would have an objection to that...

ummm WP everything has a limited supply of energy no exceptions we cant fly from here to the northern lands or to the southern from our islands, no way its unreasonable, the best option and most reasonable is teleportation gates for all the outposts owned by us so if we recive word of an attack then we will be there in mass forces near instantly makeing us a quick army and never too late to war.
Grand Seraphim - April 5, 2006 07:51 PM (GMT)
Okay, first DA i can see where your coming from with the teleportation, but you have to consider, this is Fantasy.
The laws of Physics etc dont really goven the game, who ever heard of wizards drawing there power from winds? :P
Okay, prehaps not the best comparison, but it gets the point across, we dont need to stick within the realms of reality.
However, i do like the idea of having some sort of teleportation portal, or device that allows angels to travel insaltanelously (sp?) very much indeed :D

Woodpecker - April 5, 2006 08:35 PM (GMT)
Teleportation sounds too much like traveling through the warp or chaos gates to fit the angels.
DA, d'you really want to argue the laws of physics in relation to a race of magical flying creatures in a made-up world? Read the fluff again. They DON'T run out of energy because they don't actually have real material forms.
Grand Seraphim - April 5, 2006 09:27 PM (GMT)
Heres an idea, in order to travel vast distances they become there "true" forms, beings made out of pure energy, this way, lacking any physical matter they can travel the world around in a few minutes.
This might be intresting to work into the fluff if we agree, there "true forms" are of pure energy, however they chose to take the form of a "mortal shell" akin to there master (Seraphall, who conviniently looked like an Angel) this would expalin "why" angels look how they do, and make it a bit more realistic then "his brain shatterd, and all the pieces to turned out to be perfectly shaped and formed angels, wow".
So instead, the angels when first born were beings of pure "anti-chaos" no chaos thing could at first come near them because of there pure chaos energy.
We have to remember here we are not looking at "good" and "evil" Chaos is not neccesarily evil (evil is just the perception of a person on an event or someones personality etc) but instead we should look on it as two forms of energy. Chaos is one, the Angelic energy is another, it is not because of there "purity" as such just anti chaos energy.
Well, hope you understand what im saying, i think i do :P

WP ya know the Old ones made the warp gates and seince we are made from them it wouldent be that much diffrent also it can be pured by the purity of the crystal shards.
also if we have an unlimited source of energy then a Lvl 1 wizard can produce 10PD because to draw from the winds takes energy and you become worn out the more you cast, and higher levles can draw more exerting the same energyso the say we have a unlimites source is to change the game too much the elves have a limited source as do the, dwarfs, humans, necromancers, deamons, ect...
so we have to have a limited source also teleporting is much more reasonable than trying to fly in ranks across a huge sea.
magic facts from warhammer fluff/ stories such as conrad, necromancer and more
p.s. deamons get worn out and they arnt reallu matrialistic so what about them?

They didn't make the Warp Gates as a means of transportation. Angels DO NOT travel through the warp.

Angels don't use the winds... I think I've explained that sort of thing in the fluff already. Moving in the material world is no problem for them. Which is why they don't die. Using magic expends their holy energy, so by doing so they risk being cast into the angelic void. Flying isn't a big deal

I never said they flew in ranks

Nice random incomprehensible sentance there.

Daemons are also instable. Obviously angels have found a way to deal with this sort of thing, which, again, I think I explained in the fluff above. They use Seraphaal's body to hold themselves in the world.
Dark Angel - April 5, 2006 10:34 PM (GMT)
ok i was just trying to satte something
- we have a limited amount of energy though we can last 5-10X longer than a human in constent combat and any strenusous exersise, also out void draws from the pure forms of the winds untanted by chaosso it explains oh why we can use the heavens and light lore
but Gs has a good idea the gates puts us in our pure form then shoots us across to the other gate which gives us our shell back and we come out compleatly normal and it transports any huge mass army instantly to the desired gate. its much faster than flying

I think that DA was just ,making sure he gave credit to writers - the whole copyright thing? but i may be wrong. I like the fluff. No problems.
Woodpecker - April 8, 2006 03:48 AM (GMT)
Okay, whatever DA. I still think you're wrong, but I don't think we need to argue about it. The angels are a small army, so they won't be moving major forces any time soon. It doesn't really need to be in the book. They have wings, so people will assume they can fly, and we leave it at that.
