Title: The whole Nirvana issue

Clavix - December 29, 2005 02:57 AM (GMT)
Due to some person's feelings, there has been an issue over what the home city of the angels shall be known as and well, the issue was kind of never resolved. So here is the official Seraphim poll for the topic.

I'm voting Nirvana.

Baranthazul - December 29, 2005 03:27 AM (GMT)
Celestia, obviously.
---Baran

humansRpepul2 - December 29, 2005 03:31 AM (GMT)
On the change Nirvana page, it was clear, nobody would mind the change. This is beaurocratic. Whatever though. If more people vote to change it (to Celestia or anything else) we need to create a new topic, assuming Celestia can't get a majority (which I doubt).

We all know where I'm voting. And I see no reason not to.

Resmaous - December 29, 2005 07:48 AM (GMT)
i dunno know why , but i did think that Nirvana sounded bad :(

Prince Senlaith - December 29, 2005 11:25 AM (GMT)
Simply on the basis of which name sounds better, I'm going for Nirvana. Nirvana is recognised by most people as a place of sorts, which makes it more suitable as a place name. Celestia is a good name, but its not as familiar to many people, and as far as I know, is just something made up.

Haktar - December 29, 2005 04:08 PM (GMT)
for the same reason as supplied by P.Sen., i'm voting the opposite of what he said.

Enoshima - December 29, 2005 06:01 PM (GMT)
From what I have heard Nirvana is a perfect place.
If such a place really existed, none of the angels would leave it.

I haven't voted yet, but I vote against nirvana.

Celestia seems better, but not like a perfect name.
But untill someone sugests a better name, my vote goes toe celestia (note that I haven't voted yet.)

Seraphim Anointed - December 31, 2005 07:30 PM (GMT)
er... prince thats the whole problem you dont go naming empire citys after germanic ones. (they are just similar)

Clavix - December 31, 2005 07:33 PM (GMT)
S. Anointed, what are you talking about, all the Empire cities have germanic names. And what does this have to do with the Empire? We are not in the Empire! We are on some island in the ocean! How many times do I have to tell you?! How long am I going to keep typing exclamation points?!!!!!?!?!!?!?!?! :P

Woodpecker - December 31, 2005 08:41 PM (GMT)
How about... they're both stupid!

humansRpepul2 - December 31, 2005 09:07 PM (GMT)
Germanic SOUNDING names. That's exactly what Celestia is. A heavenly sounding name. The point of WH fluff is to avoid naming things exactly as they are in reality, but suggest that's what you based it off of, to give a subconcious view of the overall army theme. Celestial means literally-Heavenly. So, Celestia makes people think, Heavenly, since they shound similar.

Nirvana, on the other hand, is not a PLACE, but a state of being. I think it's too close to the real world to be fluffy.

Dark Angel - December 31, 2005 11:15 PM (GMT)
empire is based off old germany down to the elector counts

we should base our names off dead languges greek, and latin

Haktar - January 4, 2006 04:50 PM (GMT)
Brettonia is based from France and England in 100 year war, even the map looks similar. Greek and Latin are the languages the bible first came to the west in. CAn anyone speak hebrew well? cos thats what it was originally in i think. Take from Latin and Greek, you may as well take from the Bible.

humansRpepul2 - January 4, 2006 11:32 PM (GMT)
Hmm, we could give earlier named SPC's Hebrew names, but keep the current ones biblical, or kinda mix it into Greek an Latin, and use all three. Good idea.

Dark Angel - January 5, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
i still want to call them nido and epyon(which is greek for next) and dante(he deserves a spot)

humansRpepul2 - January 5, 2006 11:11 PM (GMT)
Well, unless three people sign up and vote for nirvana, I think celestia has a solid majority. Can anyone think of someone who hasn't voted? If not, I think it's pretty well resolved.

Clavix - January 5, 2006 11:16 PM (GMT)
Some of the newer members haven't voted, but it does seem that Celestia is the leader. Have fun making all those changes Prince!

Prince Senlaith - January 6, 2006 11:01 AM (GMT)
Bah. I'll say it again, if we don't call it Nirvana, could we at least not call it Celestia? It just sounds sorta tacky, like something from an anime TV show. I preferred Solace, but I'm sure there's lots of other things we could call it *hint, hint*

Haktar - January 6, 2006 04:59 PM (GMT)
I agree. Celestia sounds like ****. And that doesn't make it starry and therefore heavenly. No smart remarks. How about Jerulasa (long a in the middle short a at the end.)
read it like "jerularrssa"

humansRpepul2 - January 6, 2006 07:16 PM (GMT)
Meh, do we need another poll? I still think Celestia has a majority. It's heavenly, and starry. At least it's not a state of mind or the Jewish homeland (no offence, Haktar, but it sounds a bit much like Jerusalem).

I still like Celestia, but another latin term is Aether [the upper air; heaven or the upper world]
Also-Aetherius [heavenly]---->like an Aetherius blade

Enoshima - January 6, 2006 07:48 PM (GMT)
Aether is IMO the best one I have heard so far.

A lot better then Celestia (which IMO looks too much like celestial)

humansRpepul2 - January 7, 2006 07:50 PM (GMT)
That's kinda the point.....*shifty eyes*. Celestial means heavenly, thus if we have Celestial this and that, it means heavenly items. Celestia, would just be a place with the same root word. Aether is just one of the things listed on the Notre Dame website that means heaven in latin, but I think it sounds a bit much like etherial.

Araith - January 7, 2006 09:12 PM (GMT)
I prefer Nirvana, it just sounds much better. Celestia sounds too worn-out.

About Hebrew. The translation of heaven in Hebrew is 'shamayim' ('~ymX' in Hebrew alphabet).

Haktar - January 8, 2006 02:21 PM (GMT)
shamayim
shamyn
Czamyn
Tzaymn
Aymin
Atzmyn
Celaztin
Salachdyn

just some ideas

Ironskintribe - January 8, 2006 04:37 PM (GMT)
Can you give a pronunciation list next to them so people with less sounding out strange words abilities like myself will find it a bit easier? :P

Araith - January 8, 2006 10:19 PM (GMT)
Shamayim: [shaw-mah'-yim]

humansRpepul2 - January 9, 2006 01:22 AM (GMT)
Well, none of those really give much of a aesthetic or heavenly feel. Too earthy sounding. And, Araith, what are you talking about, Celestia worn-out? Where else have you seen it? And you would say Nirvana isn't as widely used?

Dark Angel - January 9, 2006 02:31 AM (GMT)
Aether sounds good we should poll it between Aether, nervina and some other popular ideas though i think that Aether would sound good for the name of a city.

shootyarmies - January 9, 2006 02:42 AM (GMT)
Aether sounds great, Nirvana is a problem, and Celestia just sounds too much like celestial

Ironskintribe - January 9, 2006 03:00 AM (GMT)
I don't know why this popped into my head but I thought of Ayamith... don't think it means anything or where if ever I heard it but it just popped into my head, I also say that aether sounds good.

Araith - January 9, 2006 03:53 PM (GMT)
Rpepul, previously I couldn't find the right term (English is not my native language). What I meant was, is, that Celestia is a cliché IMO.

Aether and Ayamith are both fine names IMO. And I don't recall hearing them before.

Haktar - January 9, 2006 05:26 PM (GMT)
Time for a poll methinks..... can anyone poll or only mods..... goes to find out
EDIT someone could just edit the one we have here already...

Ironskintribe - January 9, 2006 07:56 PM (GMT)
