Title: Good Conversions

Seraphim Anointed - December 24, 2005 07:35 AM (GMT)
hey has anyone got any favorite conversions they have done in the past if so pics or discriptions would be nice,

one i'm working on is a converted wild rider forest wolves unit, basicly i took a unit of LOTR wargs and mounted them on cavalry bases, making the fur wilder and moulding twings into it with green stuff, then making the bases forestry with spare bits and adding some dryad and glade guard bone charms and skulls hanging of the pelt i've done two so far and although LOTR models are smaller than fantasy wargs are giant wolves so now i have a unit of giant wolves that look a LOT more dramatic and poised than the goblin/undead wolves i was going to use. (ill post a pic when unit is finished)

There is one I'm very proud of (not the paint job)

It's the carny-dragon (carnosaur+dragon)
EDIT: added the rest of the pics.
Here's the pics.

These pictures are only with glue, I have done some more work on it since the pictures where taken.
It is now on a proper 50x50mm base, I have added scales to the top of the wing joint with greenstuff, and I have drybrushed it.

nice conversion! is it a high elf dragon?? and the base is too big you know... :(

AoAlgebra

Nice conversion, sadly cant say the same for the paint job...

If you have ever played a game called Monster Hunter it really looks like a monster called "Rathalos" (one of the strongest and most annoying beasties in the game)

I really like the conversion though :D

Enoshima - December 25, 2005 10:14 AM (GMT)
As I wrote at the end of my first post, it is now on a proper 50x50 base.
It is deathfang, the dragon ridden by asarnil the dragonlord.

I did this conversion because IMO the normal warhammer dragons look like whimps, this dragon has some serious muscles.

And the paint job has improved, I have drybrushed the entire thing (exept for the wings) with fortress grey, but I don't have any pictures of that yet, and it still doesn't come near eavy metal standard.

Haktar - January 6, 2006 05:08 PM (GMT)
Hating to throw a damper down the nostrils of your dragon, i think the conversion is AWSOME, but they made them like that becasue yours couldn't actually fly. Not with wings that size. Just mentioning that for posterity and to defend GWs choice. I really like the idea, and the conversion. When you take the pics back off a little bit to get better focus.... i dunno what your cameras like, so i can't help you really

Enoshima - January 6, 2006 08:06 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the tips on using the camera.
They where my first warhammer pictures ever, so I didn't exactly know how much distance there should be between the camera and the model.

As for the flying part, the wing surface is around 4 times that of the carny itself, so it is a lot more likely to fly then a GW dragon with the same wing surface as the body and a serious balance problem.

Haktar - January 7, 2006 01:24 PM (GMT)
Can't be bothered to argue. You probably know more about it than i do.

Araith - January 7, 2006 01:58 PM (GMT)
Though indeed the paintjob is meagre, I love the dragon. As Haktar said, it looks awesome.

You wanna talk about dragon's with serious muscle?

That is a dragon I have been working on for quite awhile now. If you a member of either Druchii.net, or Warhammer Palace (both wonderful forums, by the way), you've seen this before. A large portion is handsculpted, and it's more or less my child at the moment... not finished yet though, as you can probably tell.

This should technically be photo gallary, which I should technically rename Models...

This thread has been moved.

I remember you showing us pics of your dragon WIP and I thought it was great then but it is even better now. You have quite a tallent painting as well. Great model.

Baranthazul - January 12, 2006 02:11 AM (GMT)
For once in my life, I can't say anything. But I'll try (for you GS). Wow. Wow. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Thats..........

Wow.

(faints)

Cool...

(faints again).

Dude, consider Golden Daemon. SERIOUSLY CONSIDOR

From what i can see the paint job rocks. Completly. I may post a pic of an inquisitor if i can find it on my PC, its fairly old however.

EDIT: Okay i found it but the picture is AWFUL. I warn you, your eyes may explode.

WOW nice dragon! amazing and enoshima yours is great to
i agree with GS when he says golden deamon!
oh and Haktar dragons are magic who says they have to be realistic they can breath fire! harpies shouldn't fly (plus they don't look any thing like the art in the DE book)
(p.s. is that a forge world dragon or was it scratch built)

Baranthazul - January 18, 2006 06:56 PM (GMT)
His was scratch built. Search the D.net painting and modelling forum for the details. 1 and a half years....
GS-great pic. I can see you put your digicam to good use there.

Ironskintribe - January 18, 2006 08:45 PM (GMT)
If WP hadn't gotten rid of it we would have pictures on here as well (at least I believe they are gone). And yes great work with the digi cam GS, its a work of art...

Grand Seraphim - January 19, 2006 04:28 PM (GMT)
I think it was actually done with a webcam, and it was taken just after DH was released, so when was that, 2003, earlier?

You can imagine the quality webcams used to be...

Enoshima - January 19, 2006 09:38 PM (GMT)
@ Rogue-Gladiator: you win, by 98 to 2.

That is a really cool dragon, my conversion can never beat a sculpt like that.

And then there is the paint job, I've seen worse golden demon entry's that actually got a prize.

This one for example:

Although you should keep in mind, that that is the 1987 single miniature bronze demon winner, from the UK.

If you want to see more ancient golden demon winners (or more current ones), go here (note, it says .fr, but the site is in english)

Grand Seraphim - January 19, 2006 09:41 PM (GMT)
Crazy how people used to bring a model which is regarded as "standard" now a days and win a golden demon :D

Almost unthinkable now!

Seraphim Anointed - January 26, 2006 01:08 PM (GMT)
yeah although you still see the ocasional plain strait from the book model that i think WHAT? why did they let that one win?
