Title: The Seraphim Guide
Description: Make it your first stop

Woodpecker - October 22, 2005 04:42 AM (GMT)
Hi!
Welcome to Seraphim! If you're a new member, you probably just received a PM directing you to this thread. We ask that you read through it, as it should answer most questions that you have.

General Information

What is Seraphim?
Seraphim is a community list-creation project. We are dedicated (okay, not too dedicated) to creating an Angelic Beings themed army for the Warhammer Fantasy Battles game. We also have a vibrant and rather insane community, which is what makes it all fun. This, combined with a great looking site with many cool customized features, makes us a good forum to be a member of.
At least, that's our advertising pitch.

How was Seraphim founded?
Seraphim got started on May 6th, 2004, when I (Woodpecker, site admin) was browsing the GW forum. I read a post by some guy named Nippon'sNinja about an Angelic Beings army list. Although I didn't love the list, I thought the idea was awesome. I decided to try and get a forum to build this list going, so I contacted this Nippon'sNinja guy, made a prototype, and soon after that he and I launched the site (PS: He's known here as Grand Seraphim).

Now that you have some idea of what the site is for, please take a look at our Site Rules.

Administration Team:

Woodpecker: One of the site's admin and co-founder. A tall, thin, long-haired, devilishly handsome fellow, with a large pointy beak. Also very smart. He's generally nice, but if you start behaving badly, he gets nasty very quickly, and he's very, very good at being nasty.
Commonly known as WP.
Contact him about any site bugs, major member problems, or other important problems.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: WP has recently left the site. He is unlikley to return in the foreseeble future so please direct any major site issues to GS.

Grand Seraphim: The site's other admin and co-founder. He's the sheer energy that keeps us going. A bit more relaxed than WP on discipline issues, and tends to be a bit more invloved with the members then WP. Commonly known as GS.
Contact him about general member problems and any important requests you may have (and if WP isn't around, about major site problems).

Baranthazul: One of the site moderators. Absolutely insane. He's not really much of a moderator; more of an example of what not to do. Currently has the biggest post count of anyone on the site (the little spammer).
Commonly known as Baran.
Contact him about general problems and suggestions.

Ironskintribe: Our other mod. A fair bit better behaved than Baran, but still a little crazy. Overall, a nice guy to know.
Commonly known as Iron, IST, or Fe.
Contact him about general problems and suggestions.

IST rarley frequents the site, please direct all general issues/suggestions to AOA or Baran, our two currently active moderators

Angel of Algebra: Commonly known as AoA. Is the newest member of the administration team and has helped bring the site back up to scratch after a long period of no activity where the closure of the site was considerd. Works very closley with GS and sometimes as his personal slave. He has an unyeilding faith in the project and has made his dedication known on many occasions. During his long period as a member was awarded the honour of Wearer of the Seraphim Longbeard of Cheese and has also for periods of time been the "Antipecker".
Contact him with general issues, and if in need of inspiration

Backup: The backup administrator account. GS or Woodpecker will use it if they ever delete themselves. Hopefully, you won't see this guy much.

Automatic Welcomer: The robot who directs new members to this thread.

Alphabetical List of People and Things that can be found here:

Antipecker: An odd concept created by GS as some sort of "Anti Woodpecker". Moved through several members of the site before being eradicated by WP himself.

Cheesing: A strange habit of members here; attacking other members and their ties with cheese. If you're new, you'll find out about it soon enough.

Compendium: A huge tome of every unit that has been suggested and that has been found good enough to be considered for possible use. Can be found in the Rules Forum.
There is also a Fluff Compendium (which may be found in the Fluff forum), and it contains every single crazy thing we've written for the army.

Conclave: The term used for when the Rules and Fluff masters and the Administration Team members go into the secret forums to design the next addition of the list. Conclaves have been known to last up to two months, but they have been much shorter lately.

Note: Due to the reorginisation of Seraphim the concept of Conclave no longer exists with nearly all rules desicsions being put in the hands of the site and the Rules forum.

Cult of the Hidden Word: If you don't know, you aren't supposed to know. If you do, I don't need to tell you anything anyway.

Dark Angel: A real site character, is notorious for bad spelling and his addiction to angels with black wings. Created the concept of angel called Canti who has been part of the list in one form or another due to his actions. Is very dedicated to the project, but talk to him at your own risk.

The Lists: The different versions of the army lists. Can be found in the List Forum or the Archive Forum. Organized up from 1.0. Currently we're at 1.39 (actually the fifth edition of the list). At some point not yet seen on the horizon, 2.0 will come out. This will be a heavily playtested list that we consider fit for public consumption.
These will commonly be referred to by just their number (1.1, 1.3, etc).

The Project: Slang term for the site and for its work in general.

Seraphim Time: GMT -6 (-5 during Daylight Savings Time in the states). This is the official site time that we all follow while on it, so we can understand each other.

Section-by-Section Site Guide:

News & Announcements: You're in it. This is where all important declarations will be made and where site regulations and helpful bits of information can be found.

New Members & Site Topics: This is where you can go to introduce yourself if you're new.
Also, if you have problems with, find errors on, or just have suggestions for the site, this is the place to post them.

General Discussion: The section for discussing the project in general; specifically those topics that apply to the project, but don't really fit in any of the more specialized sections.

Rules Creation: The place where new unit and rule ideas for the army are suggested, revised, and kept or abandoned. This is also where the most up-to-date editions of the List and the Compendium are kept.

Fluff Creation: This is where fluff for the army, is written, edited, and scrapped or kept for use in the list. Contains the Fluff Compendium.

Playtesting: The section where playtesting results from battles with the army are reported and discussed. Also, this is where mathematical simulations take place.

Site Gallery: The site's gallery section. Although it is geared towards Angel-themed conversions, any pictures from any GW games may be posted here.

The Archives: This is a storage place for old threads of note; things that we don't want to lose, but that don't see much posting any more. Threads here can only be read, they cannot be posted in.

Wargames Discussion Here you can talk about any Wagaming topic, from 40k to AOD to the Black Gobo Webzine.

Off-Topic: Anything at all (provided it's reasonably appropriate) can be posted here. This section is usually full of joke threads, crazy discussions, and random shouts of "Ulla!". A fun place and a vital part of the community. Check it out.

Hidden Forums: There are also several forums that are hidden from most members. These are used for various purposes. You really don't need to worry about them too much, but they are mentioned sometimes.

In Closing...
Thanks for reading this. Hopefully it answered most of your questions. Now get out there and enjoy the forum. I'd say the first thing you should do is introduce yourself in the "Welcome to Seraphim" topic at the New Members & Site Topics section. Also, that's the place to ask any questions you have that are still unanswered.

Good luck, have fun, and follow the rules (or else),
Woodpecker,
Seraphim Co-Founder and Root Administrator
