Title: List for a hopeful playtest soon
Description: 2k!
Baranthazul - August 27, 2005 09:36 PM (GMT)
I'm going to playtest against tarag (hopefully, waiting for an email reply, probably in early september), and have created a list. I'm not sure where it should go, but I think here is a pretty good place for it.
(General) Princedom (100)
Blessing of Zadkiel (20)
SwordStick (10)
155
Dominion (130)
Swordstick (10)
Eagle Quills (25)
162
Abalim/Virtue (105)
Level 2 (35)
Spellweaver (40)
180
Abalim/Virtue (105)
Level 2 (35)
2x DS things (50)
190
690
11 Angels (121)
M (7)
137
11 Angels (121)
M (7)
137
12 Arch Angels (168)
168
5 Vengeances (135)
135
5 Vengeances (135)
135
690
3 Powers (186)
186
9 Anelai (117)
flaming arrows (24)
128
5 Sons of Fire (155)
155
492
Abalim (220)
220
2 Mylia (170)
170
390
OVERALL: 2252
WE ARE THINKING OF MAKING IT 2250 SO I CAN USE AN ABALIM. EVERYONE NOTE THIS
This is a balanced list that should do well. I'm trying out the special here, and the characters. And the core are there to do the grunt work.
I'll try to deploy like this:
Power Vengeance Dominion Angel(abalim) (abalim)Angel Arch (with princedom) Sons Vengeances Mylia
Any advice?

Intresting list.
I like the combination on the Dominion, very cunning.
Okay i think we need to have somthing to stop people from not taking enough basic angels (not that you havent or anything, but it just sprung to mind that an people could make an army of venagacies. Brr)
Sons of fire have only just been created from the depths of my mind, so make sure Tareg's okay with it.
Otherwise i think that your lack of command is your biggest weakness.
In a 2k game none of your units even have a standard bearer which i find essential to win games (belive me, when your in the vital combat when you need one, youll know).
If this is gonna be your first playtest maybe you should do the game a tad smaller to ease yourself into the angel units etc.
At the end of the day its your choice, good luck, and may the old ones guide you. (great, now i sound like a book yeesh. (goes and drinks molten cheese))
Baranthazul - August 27, 2005 10:47 PM (GMT)
The think about standards is, well, none of my units are large enough that I feel safe enough that my unit won;t break and lose 100 vp's. And I don't think that there is a way to make people take angels, except to do a 1+ thing. And the rules don't allow one to take only vengeances (at 2k you need 3 core, 3k is 4 and so on). And I think that this is a fair way to do a playest (having not done one before, and such) because it means that I'm pitting a new army I've never used before versus hopefully his new woodies, whoich he hasn't used yet. Or maybe it'll degrade into a 1k game (he tends to drop the ball on brinigng a lot of his army at times).
Oh, from a tactical stand point, I'm going to try and get the 16" flight spell, and have the dominion go chariot (well not if he uses woodies...)/mage hunting. The anelai will try and kill his encamped archers/dryads (if facing woodies, I'll drop the GW/Speed of thought for extra had weaps, and instead get flamable arrows for the anelai), and one set of angels/archs will go for a unit of GG, the other will go for some dryads. The Vengeances will go after GR or Treekin, and the powers will help out wherever they're needed.

Not that this is a major problem, but it is considered bad sportsmanship if you exceed 2000 points when playing a 2000 battle or 1000 is a 1000 battle and so on. It is not the biggest deal, but I am telling you that many (especially in tournament) would not let you enter with a list like that. I agree that you should check with him b4 you use sons of firs for they are new. Otherwise the army looks good other then what GS said.
Taragudrig - August 27, 2005 11:53 PM (GMT)
I agree with GS that you should use more basic angels as it will make it easier for you to cover your flanks and make it harder for me to outmanouver you. Plus, I'm hoping to take out as many of your units as possible with shooting and magic.
Baranthazul - August 28, 2005 12:02 AM (GMT)
OT slightly, but are you going to use woodies, and what day is good for you? In the email, I told you that any day after dorr, so monday/tues/wed are all good for me.
And thank you iron, I thought it was good sportsmanship to go over 50 points. Looks like I was wrong. And you are going down, T-arahq-iudrygh.

I like it, except I thought we weren't going to have a dispel scroll item? That we were leaning towards less boring ways of countering magic.
Grand Seraphim - August 28, 2005 09:54 AM (GMT)
Umm, i think it would be a bit "to" far off of GW's template for no dispel scrolls. We definetly have to have them.
Its one of the "essentials" of an army.
Baranthazul - August 28, 2005 01:38 PM (GMT)
Ya, I'm agreeing wiht GS on that one. Every army has DS, and without them, no list can be competitive, especially since we don't have an enchanted +1 DD item.

Prince Senlaith - August 28, 2005 02:23 PM (GMT)
Fair enough, I just like the idea of having another way of countering magic.
Hey you're using an Abalim? Result! You'd better play this game soon because I really want to see how it performs. Also, we really need a new name for spellcasters, I couldn't understand at first why you needed to make it 2250 points to use an Abalim because I thought you were talking about the mage :) .
Baranthazul - August 28, 2005 02:35 PM (GMT)
Oh ya, we're naming abalim/ark abalim virtue/ark virtue. FYI. And ya, we'll do it in about 8-10 days. Not in the city till then, ya see

Prince Senlaith - August 28, 2005 02:42 PM (GMT)
New name sounds good, but what are you going to call the current Virtues? Keep them as-is or give them a new name to distinguish them? (although they are sort of casters, so maybe something like demi-virtues)
Grand Seraphim - August 28, 2005 04:00 PM (GMT)
I have destroyed Barans post on the grounds hes an idiot.
He is not allowed to directly reveal information from the conclave for ANY purpose until its done, due to complaints etc from you guys
I think im gonna have to lock him in there now.
Baranthazul - August 28, 2005 04:27 PM (GMT)
Okay. So, as I was saying. PM me for info on 1.2. $10 for a unit, $12 for a character!
In all seriousness, if you pm me for info, I will lie to you horrendously.
"What is the angel's basic statline?"
"20" fly, WS10, BS10, S10, T2, A10, I19.6 W4 LD 12. 16 pts."
I'm sorry for revealing stuff, I wasn't aware I wasn't allowed.....

Ironskintribe - August 28, 2005 05:42 PM (GMT)
Wow your the best mod ever Baran :P . Anyways it sounds like you should have a fun game and I hope you woop Tarags butt when you play him with our angels. You better write a good battle report.
Baranthazul - August 28, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
A) I'm adding to my sig.
B) I am the best mod ever
C) I think it'll be a good game. Tarag's a great general, and I like to think I'm not that bad. We're both playing new armies for us, and it'll be a great game
D) I'll take notes, and tarag and I will co-op on the Bat Rep.

Baranthazul - August 29, 2005 02:11 PM (GMT)
Okay, another change to the list. I'm taking out 1 unit of arch angels, and adding 2 Mylia (each are 85 points). Any opinions on this change?
---Baran
Prince Senlaith - August 29, 2005 04:52 PM (GMT)
I say go for it. A playtest will help the Mylia more as they are a new unit and need the feedback and testing more than the old archangels. I also think that the more wierd and wonderful things the better :)
Baranthazul - August 29, 2005 05:06 PM (GMT)
I strangely agree with you. I think our minds are merging to one entity. *Scared*
---Baran
Ironskintribe - August 29, 2005 07:23 PM (GMT)
Well you are still 2 points over *grumble grumble...* :P , but if you want to make the change, then go for it. It should help test the unit as well. I hoep you don't woop tarag too badly.
Baranthazul - August 29, 2005 09:29 PM (GMT)
I hope I do. We always tie, or end up in really close games, unless I totally screw something up, or luck is not on his side. He once charged a unit of 10 Saurus with SH's. Not a single wound. On the other end, I flanked that same combat with a stegadon, and didn't do a single wound....
