Title: Censer Bearers
Description: damn you 7th Edition!
Angel of Algebra - October 15, 2006 08:48 PM (GMT)
With the new 7th Edition targetting rules, Censer Bearers are effectively nerfed. Any opponent with half a brain will shoot the crap out of them, and so that's 40 wasted points per Censer Bearer. Here are a list of possible solutions:
- Give them an increased Ward Save against missile fire and magic missiles. 4+ probably.
- Give them 2 Wounds.
- Make the Censer bearer an upgrade for a Standard Bearer or Champion.
- Make the Censer bearer a unit upgrade like a Standard bearer or Champion.
- Reduce their cost.
More than one may be applicable. Now discuss.

Just cut them, DA? Not replace them with dark angels?
Dark Angel - October 17, 2006 09:16 PM (GMT)
no Dark angels really its starting to get annoying.
Cut them simply beacuse IMO they stink the ward was nice but wasn't really effective and now that we can't shield them in that mannor their purpose has been undermined bu the new rules. we should create a new unit to fix a "hole" that you people will complain about if they are cut. so save our losses

Actually, a Censer Bearer kept my Thrones and Archangels in the game a little longer when I used them. Sure, the Archangels died, and it was inevitable from the start of combat, but it would have happened a turn or two earlier without that Incense, freeing up those damn Knights.
I would hardly say it wasn't really effective, considering for 40pts you could get 2-4 units having a 6+ Ward Save (depending on size).

Angelic Censer Bearers
Censer Bearer: M4 WS4 BS3 S3 T3 W1 I5 A1 LD8
PTS: 40pts per model
Unit Size: 1-3 Censer Bearers.
Special Rules:
Scattered: Censer bearers, although chosen as a single choice may be deployed separately and follow all the rules for independent characters. They may not however join any units and may not accept challenges, but otherwise follow all other rules for Independent characters.
Censer: The Aromas that waft around the Censer invigorates all angels nearby them to fight harder for victory, binding them to the mortal realm. All angelic units within 6” of a Censer Bearer gains a 6+ ward save against all attacks. This ward save does not "stack" and cannot be increased by other Censer Bearers, or magic spells. If the unit or character has a better ward save, he must use that instead. This bonus does not apply if the Censer bearer is fleeing.
Individual: Angelic Censer bearers do not need to be reduced to below half strength in order to be claimed as Victory Points. Instead each Censer Bearers death awards the opponent 40 victory points. In addition a Censer bearer may never charge into combat, if they are charged they may either hold or flee. If they win combat they may not overrun, or pursue a broken enemy.
Angelic: Angelic Censer Bearers follow all the rules for angels. (Angelic flight etc) |
Just because I'm nice :)

lol ok thanks AoA.
My thougts on these.
1: i think they are... dodgy. basically. Fragile and weird.
2: onthe flip side, very individual idea, and if they actually work in battle, then hmmm.
3: very well thought out rules. Could you maybe change it to"have to flee, may not hold when charged" ? that would make more sense to me. Maybe just introduce a rule to overcome the 7th ed problem: "Censer bearers may only be chosen as targets if they are the closest unit and there is no other angelic unit within 6" of the bearers." thasts my offering.
