Title: Change of atmosphere in From the New World
Description: too light?

Is anyone bothered by the change of atmoshere in this? Koudelka was one of the darkest rpgs ever, SH1 had some comedy but never went overboard, Covenent even managed a good mix between comedy and a dark atmoshere, but this... not too dark. Who here wants the next to be a little darker? You know, a scary rpg hasn't been tried often, maybe the next could be a horror/rpg hybrid?

yeah, I noticed that, even though I liked the game, it didn't have the same appeal as Covenant. I mean the great depression is supposed to be well... depressing ya know :P. Regardless it's still a good game, but it doesn't carry the SH mood like I wanted it to.

A lot of people want the series to go back to the way it was in the first SH. I still love FtNW even though it has it's problems. I just remember playing the JP version and it being very bright. Although, it might be all that squinting I did trying to discern the kanji. The brightness might be from all that squinting. Good times.

I want it to go back to SH1 times. Those were the best times.

You've been wanting that awhile now. I don't if you're going to get it..... :P Well if they do set SH4 during WWII like some people think, it'd make sense that the game would be much darker Covenant and FtNW. It'd actually might be even darker than the original SH.

I hope they set it during WWII. It would be really good. I prefered SH:C in termes of atmosphere though...

Europe would be the most logical place then. I think Nautilus chose to do it in the americas since they had the last two games take place in Asia and Europe.

I don't need darkness in my RPG's. ZOMG IT'S MATURE DAT'S SO COOL. I'm just fine with a light atmosphere- as long as they pull it off right. And SH:FTNW DOES. While I liked both, I don't think they need any particular setting to make it work. They need characters, which is really what made all of the games.

FTNW was the first one I played...though the last to finish. I think it's ok. I'm a jumpy guy, though, so it may just be me. I think it does have it's darker parts, but it is often offset with bright towns and jazzy music.

I really thought the atmospere was too much of a change, Covenant had it right for me.

After I played through them all a second time, I think the atmosphere in FTNW was just right for the game. Though if they made Koudelka, SH1, or SH:C in this sort of setting I think they would fail miserably

True, SH3's story did fit the atmosphere, it story just wasn't that good though. :(

FTNW always seemed to be more about the gameplay to me. Still they could've improved the story. Even when Killer died, when he was protecting Lady, I'm still glad the dickhead died. Johnny just seemed like a bystander for most of the game. As well most of the characters joining your party.

That's what I disliked. The characters just seemed like they didn't belong. Well, Johnny did, but I just hated him.

True, you didn't get attached to things like you did in the other 2 (or 3) games..
