Title: New poetry magazine - Under the Radar
Jane Commane - March 25, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
Dear all,
just to let you know about a new poetry magazine called 'Under the Radar' that myself and poet Matt Nunn are launching.
Under the Radar aims to print the best new, cutting edge and up-and-coming poets. It has a firm foot in the West Midlands region, with a wider national outlook. Reviews, articles and the odd bit of art rubbing shoulders with contemporary, innovative and thought-provoking poetry. It promises what we like to think of as 'serious frivolity' - serious about poetry, with an undeniable whiff of joie de vivre.
We are calling for both submissions and subscriptions - please support this new venture in any way you can! As I'm sure you realise, ventures like this are very much dependant on subscribers for their survival, so please consider purchasing Issue One to help us on our way!
The magazine costs just £2.50 an issue or £10 for four copies (inc. postage).
Please send submissions/subscriptions to:

Hi Jane, I promise that I will, having not contributed since the message board moved a while back, I realise I've been missing out on some great poetry-related threads!

When do you anticipate launching this first issue, Jane? Once you've got a date, let me know so I can put it in my diary.
Will you be at Daljit's gig next month?

Hi Jane,
basically as soon as possible - once we have enough quality submissions to fill the first 20 pages or so of issue one. I'd like to put first dibs (if you don't mind of course, and haven't already had it published elsewhere) the poem you read at the NightBlueFruit open mic about the old people on the lakeside from Camper Van Blues. We should also have contributions from Simon Turner, among others already promised to help us get kick started. Hope you enjoyed curry with Mario, Jon et al the other night!
Under the Radar now has a myspace site too: www.myspace.com/undertheradarpoetry
come and visit us!
all the best
Jane

Alas, alas. That poem about the old folks is already gone. To ... erm ... hurriedly checks her files ... James Midgley at the estimable Mimesis.
I'll send you something else, since you're planning to launch so soon. (Most mags have such a long time lag between submission and publication, my new book would be out before the magazine.) A small selection, if possible, and you can see if you like anything.
Curry was fantastic. Five pound a head, for a good tikka balti, naan bread, pilau rice AND a diet coke. Thanks for giving Steve a lift home, btw. He's a good sport, isn't he? How many husbands would so cheerily allow their wives to go off currying with strange men and go home alone like that? But if he will insist on having a proper job which means he has to get up early and miss all the fun ... ;)
Jon wants to publish my translation of The Wanderer as a single poem pamphlet, possibly with facing text Old English, in time for the May Lit Fest. Did he tell you? I've said yes, and started looking at preparing the text, but the schedule seems very tight indeed. Do you think he'll be able to turn it around in such a short space of time?
