"In one of the best debut collections for ages, Katy Evans-Bush rises to the challenge of finding words for our times, meeting them in the nurseries of children or the battlefields of Iraq. Her work is various, educated and promiscuously open to experience: a Bishoppy moose makes an unepiscopal escape into TV’s Northern Exposure as its name morphs through Muldoonian games; Catullus is translated into rougharse while the title-poem takes the pulse of modern death. She makes good use of her joint passport into British and American poetry, which now often seem to share a whole language of faux amis, in a book which is stylish and funny, cultured and humane...

I couldn't put it down!"

Sorry I won't make it, as I've said elsewhere. Have a great evening!

I'm really depressed that I can't make this. The train fare issue (we're off on a camping holiday with the kids soon and are saving our pennies for that) is stopping me, but also the time issue hasn't helped - it's my youngest daughter's induction session at her infant school on Tuesday 8th and parents have to attend a meeting at 6pm where we get briefed on school protocol for the new intake and collect uniforms etc. And since it's a trifle difficult to get from Warwickshire to central London in less than half an hour ...

But I hope it's a good launch, and books get sold, and don't forget that I want a signed copy and am willing to pay for it too! B)

Btw, Andrew, that copy of The Lament of the Wanderer is in the post. Or will be very shortly ... I'm off to the Post Office with it later this morning. Went there yesterday afternoon, in actual fact, armed with a stack of envelopes, and discovered I'd left my purse at home. Doh!

Yes, signed copy for me too, Katy, in exchange for a signed cheque. Hope the launch goes well.

Me too, Rob... thanks you guys! And I'll gladly do the book/cheque thing...

Katy - if I turn up in person with cash in my hand, can I have a signed copy too?

KEB - July 9, 2008 03:45 PM (GMT)
Rik, great to meet you last night, thanks so much for coming! I hope you had a good time.

For all others, all I can say is you missed a great party. Well - I think it was a great party, I never stopped signing books, & the owner of Treadwells is v pleased with her turnover for last night! The booze never ran out, and I ended up in Joe Allen's at midnight with a very select gathering (ie the couple of hardy fools still up for it) - the hallmark of a good evening...

Glad your launch reading was a great event. I ended up spending Tuesday evening in A&E with my son ... but that's another story. All's well that ends well.

Should I apply to you, Katy, for a signed copy or buy one from Salt and get it signed when I next see you?
