Title: Recent Forum Disappearance
Description: exactly what happened
Jane Holland - June 3, 2008 10:13 AM (GMT)
Many apologies for the recent outage of the forum, for those who were unable to load it over the weekend. Bizarrely, some people appear to have been unaffected, which is particularly annoying for me as I have only been able to access the forum today after forty-eight hours of downtime, but that's life.
The reason for the sudden disappearance was an electrical fire and explosion at one of The Planet's server headquarters in Houston late Saturday afternoon. The Planet server feeds thousands of internet businesses, including our board hosts, Invisionfree. It initially caused the slow loading of pages, which I spotted on Saturday night, and then everything went down.
Some people, due to a technical DNS/ISP issue I won't bother your heads with, may have been able to access the board for some of the downtime. But I imagine that most people this weekend - like me - would have got the 'not found' page when trying to load the forum.
Latest update is that repairs have been put into motion at the server, and Invisionfree boards are back up and running for the majority of people.
No one was hurt in the server headquarters explosion, btw, but three interior walls were apparently blown down!

Yep, you're not the first to make that joke, James. Nor will you be the last, I suspect. :D

Lost the forum again this afternoon, just briefly. I hope the aftermath won't drag on forever, as they repair stuff or sort out new software. Too tiresome for words. <_<

You joke, but it was probably our fault. Fancy putting flaming bards near delicate electrical equipment.
