Title: Pokèmon Roleplayer Since When?

Tan-Tan - January 27, 2008 09:15 AM (GMT)
I've been Roleplaying Pokèmon for one year. I first tried in Tohea and it was November 11 (same month as when OZ was created :D). I'm already one year here too since I joined here January. My sister said I should outgrow this soon so I got the idea for the poll. As if :ph43r:

I know there are people who would stop RPing once in a while then RP Pokèmon again. All RPers need a break after all. Don't know when mine would be o.o

DarkRiku435 - January 27, 2008 09:25 AM (GMT)
Not even really a year for me:/

But its fun, this in my first REAL Pokèmon rp.
My first one was very horrible so I don't consider that as my true one, but I've taken it over and I'm fixing the old one myself>.>;; The previous owner abandoned it about a month ago.

I've taken my break, it ended today. so, yeah. I just need to get Sean to rp with me x3

*Ponders*

Hmm...it's coming up for nearly three years for me. o.o Which I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing, actually.

And I had my break like...two years ago. XD Which was when I was a staff member at random places and got yelled at. XD

...I think, anyhow. o.o It may only be two. I dunno, my memory totally sucks. XD

I LOL'd so bad. XDDD

And I'm still undecided on whether it was two or three. *Pouts* Let's go with three, it sounds more impressive/lame. XD

I'd say...about....three? I don't have a good memory either. *IS BRICKED*

I'm getting close to a year. I started around April-May in pokecommunity, but that was a pathetic excuse for a roleplay, so I'm going to have to say Tohea was more serious. That was around May-June. Then I came here. Then I took a break. Then I'm here again. DUDE, does my almost one year even count as almost one year when I took a break for how many months?! I have such a short attention span. x]

Kirbop - January 28, 2008 02:34 AM (GMT)
Not counting year-long breaks, I guess I've RPed for about...four to five years or so, maybe? I first started at around 9 years old, but the RPG I've been in over these years has been pretty much hovering between life and death. It's active at random spurts of time then just dead, then it revives after a couple of weeks, dies again, erupts into life and then the cycle continues... I guess that might count for the last choice, but I was pretty active throughout those cycles...

Then around two years back, I joined Jinari in the middle of a death cycle and branched out from there to here... I can't quite measure the total amount of time I've RPed Pokèmon, but I'd estimate around four to five years, although that'd be seven if I counted from when I started to present time. o_o; *ramble ramble*

needtoscream - January 28, 2008 03:05 AM (GMT)
Oh my gosh, Kirbop! You've been roleplaying for so long! o_O

Kirbop - January 28, 2008 03:31 AM (GMT)
I guess. o.o; I was horrible when I first started even though I was really elitist about my RP skills...and then I got better. Roleplaying's been really fun though, and I'm trying to get back into it and out of my hiatus. o_o;

needtoscream - January 28, 2008 04:53 AM (GMT)
I think everyone should start out horrible, so that they realize how much they improved over time. x] I sucked too. Actually, I still do. Haha!

Kirbop - January 28, 2008 06:11 AM (GMT)
Bah, don't say that. DX I think you're a fine roleplayer, even if you yourself don't think so. :3 Besides, we'll all eventually improve, won't we? The only direction we can move is forward, or so they say. XP

Eeveefreak - February 3, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)
Well, now that I've done my research, I can reply to this. The hard thing is that I really don't know how to answer, still. I can answer a bunch of questions, but I don't know how to answer 'how long' presicely. o_o Well, let's try to narrow it down some. *enters ramble mode*

When did I first start roleplaying Pokèmon? *checks out when G/S came out* Hmm. I believe somewhere around 1999/2000. Gold/Silver had not yet come out when I first started, either that or it had only just come out. It was in November/December that I first applied for a character on a Pokèmon MUSH. Just wish I could remember the year for certain. I think it was '99, so probably about 8 years ago.

Wow. I still miss playing Lizliz, too. Meh.

Moving on, I rolpelayed there for a good 3-4 years, the site dying somewhere in the middle of that time period. I spent a bit of time after trying to find other sites, but no other MU* I tried had the class and charm that drew me to that first one (P:ANB, how I still miss you). I did get into a Pokemorph one for a short time, though.

However, then I moved, and had a baby. That knocked me out of the internet loop from around early 2004 to late 2006. Finally started getting back into online communities and stuff about then. Spent ages trying to find a good Pokèmon MU* again, failing miserably. Still wish I could find one. But eventually spotted a PbP Pokèmon RPG, one that had actual strict rules and stuff about how to RP, and what you could start with.

I was always wary of things like that, since a large number of Pokèmon writers have no sense of proportion (I start with Mewtwo and catch only legendary pokemons on my journey *cacklecackle* >.>;;;) or were copycats (I wake up late and get a Pikachu that doesn't like pokeballs!), so PbP was something I was a little mistrusting of, since it could lead to easy powergamage.

However, I've been pleasantly surprised since trying my first one about eight-nine months ago now...and have no plans to lose touch with the internet like I did last time I had a kid. Yes, I'm having another one. But this isn't the place for that.

Back to the topic...it's hard to pin that down. I have been RPing for consecutive months (and years back when I first started such), but I don't know how to facter in the three year gap between active times. o_o I've either been RPing for eight years, not necessarily consecutively, or somewhere around 3-4 of them, with a several year gap of inactivity between. Meef. o_o So...yeah, I don't know how to actually answer the poll...but it's been a while, yesh.

Kari - February 13, 2008 03:39 PM (GMT)
Guess what? I RP-ed for less than a year, and I must say that I've enjoyed my time in OZ since May ^^ Of course, that's excluding all the weird real-life RPs that I have had with my friends during the Pokèmon Yellow era (Pardon me, but I was only 7 or 8 then...)

The first few months were a bit uncomfortable for me as I travelled across countless sites just to find one that suits me. Most of the sites that I came across were either dead, very private, or very, very superficial. The replies were probably about 100+ words max, but at least responses were very quick. Of course, typing a few sentences was quite an easy task, as compared to churning out a few hundred words of replies for just ONE journey, and then repeating the process for a few journies. (I wonder how tanz does it...)

The first week was terribly disappointing, but I knew that there had to be at least one site that had a higher literary value and a higher regard for long, well-thought out replies. I'd admit I found those sites beneath my level, not because they wrote badly, but because they never made the effort to develop their characters. Frankly, 50 words isn't enough to flesh out a main, cohesive plot (or a part of it) to the point of satisfaction, in my opinion. Most of the journeys (I prefer reading to writing; that's why I chose a moderator job, so that I get a chance to read. I don't reply much.) are really boring, like

QUOTE

Ash picked up his bag and walked towards the next town. The Pikachu on his shoulder was unabashedly cheerful, lightening the atmosphere within the otherwise glomy forest. Out of the corner of the Pikachu's eye, he spotted something moving in the grass.

"Pika?" He asked.

A Pidgey jumped out of the grass!

(No, this is not to insult or tease anyone that has a similar style or plot in their RPing career. I'm just saying that reading 20 copies of the same thing can really become boring.)

Anyway, I moved on, only to bump into an incredible site: TOHEA. I quickly signed up after browsing through some of the fan-fic competition entries. (Skitty validated my account, I think XD) I RP-ed for a while, then slowly died off the site. (Within a month, wow.) I figured out that I couldn't really blend into the community; I was too shy to post anything into the OOC sections, for fear of rejection.

Jinari was next. Frankly, the site was near Utopia for me during the April 07 period. I practically loved the site a lot, especially the people there. I was tempted to stay there, but apparently my posts (usually 300-500 words at that time) were considered a little too long for constant updation, and I took it as a sign of dismissal from the site. (I never figured out why I thought that way, though) Leaving Jinari was a little sad for me (I took the sign of dismissal quite hard), since finding a good site was pretty much up to luck, and if my patience died out before I found a good RP site, I would never have RP-ed.

Then I found OZ. Tanz' frequent advertising of the community and the design of the site drew me, but I was actually a little wary of the place for two reasons: the lack of members here as compared to Jinari or Tohea, and the slight drop in literary standards as compared to Tohea in particular. Still, Tanz was nice enough to take me in... and then the revolution began, in my opinion again. (after the mods went AFK, and SS decided to retire) I managed to befriend Satoshi fairly quickly, and as the site slowly became inactive, Minty suddenly came in, which marked the reversal of the inactivity. The small site was easy to navigate (now not so), and it was easy to get to know the active members then, since they were a whole new bunch.

So here I am, ranting because I don't want to complete my homework. Yet. I shall blame my horrendous RPing on my lack of experience... But Kari is always covering up her faults with excuses =D

Oh, and I RP Pokèmon because there isn't much that is as easy, comprehensive and simple as Pokèmon and it is the only thing I know of anyway.

. The small site was easy to navigate (now not so),

Off topic, but I always ask if it's easy to navigate the place and people say yes but I say no D= so just tell me why it's not easy to navigate so I know what stupid things I've done.

Yea, totally off-topic. I reserve my comments when I'm closing this xD

Kari - February 14, 2008 08:48 AM (GMT)
I din't say it was hard to navigate, just not so.

Of course, with so many different features within the site, it's not that far-fetched to say that. At least, I believe we have come to the consensus that the site is rather complex to some extent, as opposed to when the site just started (before MoAC and a lot of other features were implemented by tanz)...

That's not to say that you've messed up somewhere though. You did a really good job, and we're all proud of this site. (Right? XD)

Tan-Tan - February 24, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
Well, everyone mostly RP-ed 3-5 years...*stares at Kirbop* then again, there was also...*stares at everyone*

I've RPed when I was young, RPed Pokèmon for a year now, and been an admin for a year now. First times...

Everyone's RPed for quite a while o_o;

Anyway, topic closed. 5MP to all, and because I just heard Kari mumbling to herself of giveaway moneys, $50 to all. Yey.
