Hikaru No Go - A+
[toggle]I strongly recommend this show. It might become boring for some of you but the comedy and the intensity would drive you to continue watching. Hikaru No Go is about the Japanese game Go. It's a sports anime? Yep, and a psychological one. Sounds deep? Not really.
Some of you would probably comment how corny it is. I admit, even though I'm a fan of it, that some scenes of Yu-Gi-Oh, an anime including a card game (not really ABOUT it), is corny. Especially their blabbering about friendship. However, in Hikaru No Go, it's quite realistic despite the mix of Sai's presence, a ghost which adds a supernatural genre.
The show focused on Hikaru, some typical kid who got possessed by Sai, a Heian Go player. Driven by Sai's passion, Hikaru played on Sai's orders. Sai would tell him where to move and Hikaru would be his fingers since Sai is a ghost. In exchange, Sai answers Hikaru's Social Studies homeworks and tests xD however by fate Hikaru plays his first match against Akira who is around his age but was as good as a Go pro player. Defeating Akira with Sai's help, Akira pursues Hikaru who didn't really have an interest in the game. It becomes a coming-of-age story about Hikaru getting pulled up by Akira's determination until he wished to play the game himself without Sai's help.
This story is very classical. Not only does it focus on Hikaru and Akira, it also shows other characters who have their own dreams and how it can easily fall despite the laughs they share together. It is filled with values that happen in real life. The songs are very simple but the meaning is too true, which I why I admire it. It also reminded me that passion really drives a person to leave everything behind for the sake of a dream, that's why sometimes things become sad especially if you fail.
By the way, Akira's voice actress, Sanae Kobayashi, voices Allen Walker from D.Gray-Man, one I will recommend, and Asuka in YGO GX. She also voiced Squirtle in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Team Go-Getters Out Of The Gate! Her acting is very nice. Akira really sound too series. Tomoko Kawakami on the other, Hikaru's voice actress, is better xD She usually play young boys and tomboyish girls like Soifon in Bleach as well as Rosette in Chrono Crusade.[/toggle]Jyu-Oh-Sei - B+
[toggle]Despite having a grade of B+, and possibly just a B, this is my personal favorite. It's a Shojo anime so expect beautiful and handsome men =D
Anyway, that's NOT the reason why it's my personal best (but Thor just rocks :ph43r: ). It is an eleven episode anime set in the future, light years away from the Solar System. The Balkan System had the same descendants from the humans in Earth but their life span is short. They slowly weaken after the age of 20. They would need surgery and lifeguards to lengthen their lives. Juno, the inhabitable planet, had no real sky or ocean. A world of technology, obviously and unlike us, everyone there mature faster. In the world of high technology, humans have to adapt.
The story is about twin brothers, Thor and Rai. Although twins, Thor is the more mature, confident one who can fend for himself. Rai is like their parents, aspiring to be a scientist and with his smart brains, it's not merely a dream. Coming home, they discover their parents murdered and the two were kidnapped by the military special forces, sent in an exile in an uncharted planet in the Balkan System known as Chimera. Determined to know why they were sent here and who killed his parents, Thor swore to leave this place and get back to Juno, protecting his brother. However, Chimera has a very harsh environment. Strange carnivorous plants are everywhere. Humans also exist, criminals who were also sent in an exile here but also those who grew in this place where civilization strives. Eventually, Thor slowly becomes convinced that with Rai, he couldn't survive but it was only for a moment when Thor wanted to finish his brother. Unfortunately Rai was eaten by a carnivorous plant.
Thor is now determined to survive in this place by learning and abiding by the rules (except the part where women, being only 20% on the population, can choose their husbands. He refused Tiz point-blank to be her husband :p) and to become the Jyu-Oh-Sei who was rumored to be the only one capable of leaving Chimera but the answers Thor is looked for would not be known until the end when more answers from the lies that has built up are revealed...
Jyu-Oh-Sei is a sci-fi and resembles Escaflowne's drawing style :p The setting is really meaningful. Chimera was an inhabitable place but you can remember what Earth was before. Chimera represent of what Earth was before a more recent civilization appeared and Juno represents the future Earth would have. Juno is desperate already in their dying population especially since only Thor was actually naturally born..*coughspoilerscough*
Thor's a main character you would not see everywhere, making it really interesting and gripping. Tiz, another main character, seemed like just Thor's number 1 fan but I appreciated her a lot when I watched a good quality video of the ending. It doesn't make sense until you see all 11 episodes. Third is a mysterious, playing dumb guy yet your typical bishounen. In the future, you would know he and Thor share a lot of things in common but their circumstances are all different...just watch xD
The opening music is dreadful for me, but some of you might like it. The music is very nice, especially the ending and the violin part. The video animation is TOP-NOTCH. A movie maker like me has to appreciate video quality and animation a lot. Voices are pretty cool, though some critic Third. His voice actor is Shun Oguri, a famous actor who played Shinichi in the live Detective Conan as well in Hana Yori Dango. The one who voiced act Thor when he was young is the voice actress of CONAN FROM DETECTIVE CONAN TOO =D Minami Takayama is amazing :p Thor's adult voice by Koichi Domoto is rare. He did it nicely, but I think personally it was nothing like Third but no one criticized him. This is Koichi's only time to voice act in anime. Tiz is another surprise. Nana Mizuki, popular to voice Hinata Hyuga in Naruto. She did Tiz really well.
So why should you watch this? Although it's not exactly flawless, you would be caught off-guard with the development. Graphics, song, character and story is generally well-done, even top-notch. You will be caught on the edge of your seat with the mysteries dangling as Thor searches for answer and how each scene can give you a WOAH impact. It did on me o.o a lot.[/toggle]Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion - A
[toggle]
The Holy Empire of Brtiannia was easily conquering the world with their Knightmare, Gundam-version that can't fly but instead rollerblade xD Anyway the empire overthrew Japan, taking away their rights and their identity as Japanese, now known as Elevens in Area 11...now you know where I got the names >:(
The story is about Lelouch Lamperogue, originally Lelouch Vi Britannia along with his crippled and blind (psychological trauma) sister were prince and princesses in the empire until their mother, an admired knight but coming from a peasant family (but still another wife of the emperor :p) was killed in front of their eyes. The assassination was expected yet the security was lowered to minimum. Lelouch and his sister were sent to Area 001 as political hostages, dead to the world after Lelouch spoke against his father, emperor of Britannia, for not investigating further about his mother's death.
11 years later in Area 01, Lelouch and his sister were living peacefully thanks to the Ashford family, a once noble family in Britannia and a family friend of their mother. Lelouch met a girl, CC who he found inside the supposed tank full of poison when Japanese stole this said secret weapon from the military. The girl gave him the power called "Geass" enabling him to command a person at will with complete power. This power encouraged Lelouch to do what he have always wanted: overthrow Britannia and learn the truth in her mother's death, to bring Nunally in a peaceful world he plan to create. In doing so, he uses the Japanese terrorists and his Geass, secretly, in the persona of the masked man, Zero, starting a group called The Order of Black Knights, one who is with justice as he states. With this power and the growing support of the Japanese, Lelouch makes a massive rebellion over Japan but there are conflicts in this war he entered against the most powerful country in the world.
Let's list down the problems :D
1. Suzaku, son of the deceased prime minister of Japan before Japan lost overwhelmingly against Britannia, is Lelouch's best friend when they were sent in Japan. Suzaku changed when they met again. He is a soldier, ready to die in battle for others, and working for Britannia. He is an "honored Britannia" stuff, supposedly having equal rights as a Britannia despite being Japanese. He wished to change things inside out unlike Lelouch. He became the pilot of Lancer, the greatest obstacle in Lelouch as Zero's path to his ideal world. They do not know each other's identity...yet.
2. Lelouch as Zero is fighting against his half-brothers and half-sisters though they do not know he is still alive, or that he is Zero. Their father seem to know what is going on. None of them are his supporters but their father, big bad villain, doesn't care. He believed competitions are important, that humans must strive to be better than others. Lelouch killed his half-brother who was the governor of Japan. Beside being truthfully a governor who doesn't care but his public image, Clovis was still Lelouch's half-brother who cried in their "death" and their admired mother. Clovis also painted a potrait of Lelouch, Nunally and their mother, showing he truly cared but Lelouch has been too upset to know and give a damn. His hatred grew against them since he is now in the mask of Zero, with a need to overthrow Britannia and now his half-siblings are going against him even though they had spent their childhood together.
3. The Geass. And C.C. Sorry, can't say more. Too much spoilers D=
4. Changing philosophies. Lelouch thinks really more of his father as the war progress. He makes sacrifice if he has to, and would abandon anyone but his sister or his friends to succeed in this war.
5. Stuffs and stuffs and stuffs.
Code Geass is a 26 episode. Episodes 25-26 aren't around but I would upload them in veoh. Crunchyroll doesn't have it and Code Geass is licensed. The second season is to premier this April. If Gundam 00 didn't exist, it would premier last November >:(
A bit of Gundam Seed-ish (Euphemia = Lacus Clyne and Suzaku = Kira Yamato, and guess what, they're a couple XD). I don't like Clamp's art too much. It's sharp and dramatic, that's for sure. Though I respect that, being quite well on its own style, I don't like it. [/toggle] D.Gray-Man - B
[toggle] First of, read the manga. It's better.
Second, the reason it's B is because of the fillers, a bit of awkward drawing and voice acting and music I can't appreciate.
DGM is set in the 19th century of London where "Akuma" or demons exist. These demons are created by The Earl of the Millennium who tricks sorrowful people crying for their dead love ones into bringing them back if they call out their name. If they do, the soul of the dead one would be trapped under the Earl's command, forced to kill the person who called him/her and use his/her "skin" now without free-will and becoming an Akuma.
Vatican made the Dark Religious Organization against the Akuma and the Earl. There is also the fourth (not plasma :p) matter, Innocence, a holy matter created by God. It was once a cube but broke into hundred of pieces (100+). Innocence can be equipped either to an Equipment or as raw to the Compatible's body (Parasitic-type of Innocence). Only certain people are compatible to an Innocence. The story is about Allen Walker, a parasitic-type who was born with the Innocence, having a deformed left arm. He was abandoned by his parents (whoever they are, it's a mystery) and adopted by Mana Walker, a Pierrot.
Mana died and Allen grieved for his foster father. He was tricked by the Earl and Mana cursed him by slicing his left eye. His left arm then reacted to Mana now as an Akuma, activating on its own and killing Mana, releasing his soul free. Allen was then recruited by General Cross to be his apprentice and be an Exorcist.
The anime would look like at first a fight between good or evil and worse, to look for the pieces of Innocence but the story progress really well (in the manga anyway) into the nearing end of humanity. The Noah, humans who have the memories of Noah, make things complicated, being on the side of the Earl. The story is still progressing though but the story is certainly worth it. The anime is worth to watch, but the fillers ruin it. I guess it's because the manga is a bit slow especially with Yoshino, the creator of the manga, is always sick T,T[/toggle]

You can submit reviews if you want. I'm going to add a review about Avatar: The Last Airbender, Danny Phantom and Fairly Odd Parents when I have time xD But I spend two hours with those stuffs already. I've slacked for too long. Need to do school projects.
For TV Shows, I only like Smallville :( and some teen shows like Drake and Josh.
I also recommend these anime: Detective Conan, Gundam SEED and its sequel, Gundam SEED DESTINY, Full Metal Alchemist (manga especially), Gakuen Alice (not highly recommended) and Ghost Hound. Ghost Hound is an on-going anime and it's VERY GOOD. It only has 10 though so my review would be a while. Google it :D
