Title: kobashi weekend

Yonemania - October 3, 2005 05:21 PM (GMT)
just got back from the best wrestling weekend ever. Heres a rundown of each match

Joe vs Kobashi:
First, the crowd was absolutely on fire for this match. Kobashi was getting a lot of cheers and would get the fans on their feet by just looking at them and hulking up. I have never seen Joe so intense for this match. He came up with Lethal as his second/assistant. Match starts with Joe slapping Kobashi and Kobashi returning the favor. The first Kobashi chop gets the fans on their feet. Kobashi is thrown outside and Joe hits him with a baseball slide THEN hits a suicide dive onto him for "Holy ****" chants. Goes back inside for some insane stiff chopping which gets the electric crowd on their feet. It goes back outside where Joe hits an ole ole kick. However, Kobashi avoids the second one and instead hits a move of his own which received a huge pop but I couldn't see. Kobashi DDTs Joe on the floor. Goes back inside for more chopping. Joe eventually gets control after a Kobashi abdominal stretch and starts locking on submission holds. Eventually Joe reverses a Kobashi suplex into a suplex of his own. Joe places him on the turnbuckle and hits him with a Muscle Buster! Kobashi kicsk out at 2! Joe hits a power bomb and flows into an STF. Kobashi almost gets the ropes but Joe in a crossface holds back his arm! Kobashi finally gets to the ropes. Kobashi eventually regains control and hits joe in the corner with a bunch of chops, leading to a huge pop. Kobashi then hits not one but two Half Nelson Suplexes! Joe kicks out of a couple of pins but then is met with a sleeper into a sleeper suplex! There a couple move powermoves afterwards but eventually Kobashi gets pumped up and hits Joe with a burning lariat for the win. Crowd goes nuts and chants ROH!
Joe & Ki vs. Kobashi & Homicide:
The crowd just blew up before this started and was just so into it the whole time. Each time a person came to the ring, the crowd would chant their name When Joe came out, his chest was red and purple all ready. It looked pretty sick. Kobashi came out to a Thunderous pop and a flurry of streamers. Stiff, Stiff, Stiff, INTENSE. Joe took some chops that sounded like shot-gun blasts and was visibly hurt. Ki took a hardcore beating as did Homicide. Kobashi took some chops, but he's just a monster. Kobashi hit Joe with a sleeper suplex, half-nelson and a few more. Joe hit a muscle buster and saito suplex on Kobashi to a huge pop. Too much to mention here. Kobashi is just amazing though. I was so impressed. Finish came as Kobashi destroyed Ki with a powerbomb, orange crush bomb, and then a burning lariat for the pin.

I can include more later, im too tired right now. I got an autograph from him after the NY show. Kobashi is just a monster in person. His moves are so strong and legit both Joe and Ki are briused and beaten. Kobashi also broke a tooth during the tag team from what i gathered. I did see KENTA both nights watching the shows from the back. But no matches with him :( .

What a weekend!!!

Oh well just wanted to pass this along.

People have been calling this one of the greatest matches ever -- do you agree or was it just the atmosphere??

And how does it stack up to other Kobashi matches?

Yonemania - October 4, 2005 01:27 PM (GMT)
I would agree with it being the best match in ROH history. As to being one of the greatest matches ever. I dont think so. The Misawa vs Kawada matches i would rate above it. The atmospehre was amazing and defitnely helped the match. Id need to watch it again to rank it Id say it would make it into my top 10 Kobashi matches for sure. Being there live doesn't hurt. But it was the best match I have ever seen live!!! Kobashi is indeed a legend and can still bring it

ROH will be releasing the match without commentary and it will probably be available in a few weeks!

From noah.puroresufan.com:

In more light hearted news, Kenta Kobashi visited a large ranch one the last day of his American excursion. Kobashi approached the farmer to help, and the farmer recognized Kobashi. The farmer noted Kobashi's proficiency with the lariat and asked Kobashi if he would like to perform the lariat in the way in which the word originates, to throw rope. Kobashi was first given the task of roping a horse, which he managed after a long tussle, and then he was given the task of roping in 30 cattle (each of 90 kgs or more), which he again managed, channeling the fighting spirit he is known for in the wrestling ring to complete the task.

I don't know what to make of that. It does seem a little far fetched but it's an awesome little mental image nontheless. :D
