Title: Help me figure out what shows to see?

Rebecca - June 7, 2008 02:31 AM (GMT)
Ok, so I have about a month to go in New York, and after that a week in London. And then back to my boring little Scandinavian country.

I really want to go to at least two shows in NY and I already have one planned in London. The question is: What should I see? I feel like my time is running out, and I don't have a plan. Anyone who can help me?

If you get to Broadway before the end of this month, definately check out the wonderful revival of Sunday in the Park with George before it closes.

I already did, and I loved it! The sets were so amazing!
But thanks. :)

Was this the London version? I am glad it's doing so well - and it will be interesting to see what and how many Tony Awards it may win.

Yes. With the two amazing leads (Jenna Russell & Daniel Evans) intact. I'm hoping that it wins at least best set, if not revival. In an ideal world Russell would win best actress, yet Patti LuPones name has already been engraved, just as Ebersole's was last year for her amazing performance in Grey Gardens . I do not believe that LuPone deserves the award, but she's the critic's darling. On topic, I've heard good things about the South Pacific revival, and I'm in love with the Xanadu CD, and their tony campaign (cubbybernstein.com) has made me love it even more.

I could use recommendations for London as well--I'll have time for probably one show in very early July. (Something I won't catch over here in the U.S., or won't catch in a similar production, would be best.)

definitely check out gypsy. I had a friend go and said she loved it. Also check out passing strange or south pacific (It supp. one of the best productions ever. And come on it's got a thirty piece orchestra were can u find that any more!) The one I will warn against is Cry Baby. And I would deff. go see Sunday. It sounds incredible!

South Pacific, In The Heights, Title of Show (not sure when it opens on Broadway though), Rent, Spring Awakening and Legally Blonde I've heard great things about recently.

As for London, I tend to stick to what would be classed as "popular" shows so I'm probably not the best bet but I can say I've seen Les Miserables, Spamalot and Wicked recently and they were all excellent. Still hearing good stuff about Hairspray and Avenue Q plus Marguerite is on a limited run and well it's Ruthie Henshall it'd be rude not to go
